He got possessed, I assume. Did he gain any skill afterward? If not, yep, posession. All you got out of that was an artifact.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Pumps and power
« on: March 16, 2008, 07:01:00 pm »
Windmills provide power to the square directly below them. If you want your pump to just pump all the time, try building a wall and ramp and building the windmill right on top of the pump. It'll transfer power to the pump and make it go.

Yes. However, that's _all_ you need, one or more males (I think they need to be adult too.)

They don't have to be anywhere near each other, or even able to get at each other, they jsut need to exist.

Build a pump and pump it into a channel into the aquifer. It'll magically disappear.

If you build traps directly onto the dirt, trees don't seem to grow under them.

Doesn't the game mean "underground", as in subterranean tiles, rather than "inside"? If so, you could build ceilings to keep out flying things.

Still a pain, but it's less of a pain.</STRONG>

Another way is to build a jeweler's shop in an area you can lock, and make sure there's nothing in it but the gems and a dump zone. Dump the item you want, send your jeweler in to do something, then lock him in, and if he was encrusting something else, suspend the job, forbid the item, then unsuspend the job. He'll have only the item you want encrusted to encrust, so have him do that then let him out.

If you want them to sleep in a specific place, no, otherwise you can just let them go pick their own. First time they sleep in an unclaimed bedroom, it's theirs.

Have you tried removing the meeting zone and placing one underground and then issuing the "stay inside" order and seeing what happens? It looks like your meeting zone is above-ground, and I believe "indoors" really means "underground".

Hm. I wonder if I could grow and kill enough creatures to, in a glacier map, use frozen blood as a building material.

Maybe he wants dark stone, or perhaps rock?

Also spears. Carry around some shit and throw them at anybody armed with spears or they'll get in a lucky hit and destroy both lungs or something.

I find it doesn't work on _anything_ that's not a stock humanoid. (Or minotaur or cyclops, which are stock humanoids with horns and less eyes respectively.) Animals? Nope. Nightwings? Nope.

It doesn't work on averything, either. Also, grab the upper leg, that breaks the hip, rendering the entire leg useless.

Alternative skill advice:

Buy lots of a wapon skill and armor use. Don't buy any Wreslting, as you can find a ruin, get a zombie, then use wreslting to break their shoulders and hips and start choking them. They won't die from this, and you can run away if anybody else shows up, then come back and do it again. This will make your Wreslting skill go way up, and armor and weapon skills are harder to raise. No shield, since you're going to want the free hand for gouging out eyes and breaking joints.
