so i got my hunter to pick up his crossbow, how do i get him to do that actual hunting? its enabled in his labor and theres a clear exit to a bunch of elk. he is just sitting there with 'no job'

i noticed the soldiering section is gone in 2010. how do i tell dwarves what weapons to use? i need my hunter to pick up this stone sword and chase elks screaming blue murder. OR EVERYONE WILL STARVE D:

all seasons are enabled for plump helmets...but maybe it is near the end of the season, i have no idea. all i know is i just got migrants and everyone is going to starve if i dont do something :S

i built a farm plot and muddied it, and i have tons of plump helmet spawn, but my farmer is just sitting on his ass. how can i motivate him to do his job?

i am playing version 0.28.181.40d. there are goblins. i need to kill them. i have armed hunters to do the job, but when i recruit them i dont know how to command them, and theyre all in separate squads. i tried stationing them next to the goblins, but the bastards dont understand what being on duty means, and lounge around inside the fortress, or split up. how can i tell them to kill the goblins?

so i tried to channel through a stairway. big mistake. the dumb as a bag of wet hair dwarf literally walked down the stairs into the water below and dug out the way he came in. i tried building some stairs for him to escape but needless to say it was too late. he won the darwin award. now i have 1 miner left and i am wondering how i can remove these stairs without further lemming dwarf suicides. i cant suspend a construction over the stairs since its impossible to build anything there, as far as i know.

this is a thread for crazy dwarven experiments you havent had time for, or have been reluctant to attempt, or havent had the resources or proper circumstances for.

to begin, i was wondering what would happen if i tried to catapult a restrained animal with a drawbridge.

Also whether demons can be encased in ice.

i think the purpose is probably to make dwarves seem moody and irrational like real people are :)

my dwarves are actually pretty happy, despite the lack of beds, and variety in booze. furniture and smoothed walls help a lot. still, this trend was concerning me, as its best to make your dwarves happy in any and every way you can

can someone explain to me why some dwarves complain of thirst when theres plenty of booze in an accessible, non-forbidden stockpile? in fact i find dwarves STANDING on the stockpile of booze complaining of thirst. do they think thats funny?
