DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: memory loss

I still have my intelligence, so it's more like I'll keep asking asking everyone the same thing over and over. "Service? Profession? Family?"

I got slammed repeatedly, on the ground, against obstacles, into water, and other than stunning, no remarkable report about hitting my head. I haven't had any head injuries show up on the health sheet. My Analytical and Creative abilities have been going up somehow, and Focus and Willpower are still maxxed. No change to linguistic ability.

I don't think Memory stat is necessary, I'm still gaining skill at the same rate, but I wonder if there's a critical low beyond which the adventurer becomes an unplayable vegetable.

Could be. I haven't retired, and this sudden drop while I was trying to train dodging, and I kept standing so the colossus would charge me again. Nothing appears in health status regarding head injury, though.

My Memory dropped from 'Below Average' to 'Abysmal'. Do elves get senile? Or did I get head trauma from standing up to be pounded back down repeatedly by colossus?

Thanks, this worked very well, makes a very efficient way to shuffle trash off-site. Until I tried it in freezing weather; instant CTD.

DF Suggestions / Re: forensics

Seems like this suggestions could be implemented together, but isn't quite the same thing. It's not about seeing death mementos on your dwarves/adventurers, but figuring out from discovered remains just what may be lurking in the caverns with you, which could be good to know in either Fortress or Adventurer mode.

DF Gameplay Questions / Hidden history
« on: August 27, 2010, 05:41:33 pm »
I set hide history to yes on world generation, and I have a few questions about it.

1. Is there any way to reveal history after generation?

2. Is a historical identity's complete history automatically revealed on death?

3. Do you get history/art entries from proximity of engravings or picking up crafts, or do you have to view each and every one? And does viewing art expose the history, or do you have to already know that history in order to see the significance of it?

"Well, Mr. Bash, you'll never masturbate again, but you're ready to become a Legendary Kicker. I think your mother would be pleased on both counts."

If I can achieve my goal of getting a figurine made of me roundhouse kicking a cyclops off a mountain, it will all be worth it.

DF Suggestions / forensics

Sometimes coming across a corpse makes you wonder, "Did I do that? Or...is something out there?" In most cases, a little description the layperson could make some sense of would be enough, ie: "This Giant Rat looks like it's skull was pummeled with a heavy spiked weapon." ("Oh, Urist McHatesrats did that. Get back to work everyone!") But a more exotic predator or rampager could leave corpses that would make a drunken miner shit himself with bewildered terror. Then you'd need a specialist to examine it and tell you what exactly you need to be shitting yourself over, and in which direction to layer on extra defenses.

How to develop and use these skills? When my hands are full, I use the appropriate weapon or misc object skills, when my hands are empty, they're always Striking.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Were the Older Versions better?
« on: August 27, 2010, 12:31:29 pm »
There are whole regions that are nothing but undead, and anything worldgen spawned there also becomes undead. With the right weapons and skills, it's also possible to one-shot smite them by the shitton. This version, it doesn't look like blunt weapons are as ideal for it as they should be, but according to dev plans that will change.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Lashers: are they supposed to be so vicious?

I never said leather whip. In game, iron whip. Irl, which as I said you yourself may look up, the combat whip. When a combat whip is made of any hide, it's not leather, it's more like buffalo or kangaroo and filled with steel shot. It can also be made of linked steel. And it can trash not just the car, but the engine.

I snuck through a dark fortress, strangled everyone in their slept, and left with an entourage of 26 prisoners. A bigger hero would've escorted them all back to their surviving relatives, but I just ditched them in the wild. Enjoy your freedom, brats!

EDIT: Okay, this tops it: with only Dabbling Striker skill, gave a minotaur a two-punch kill. Once in the gut, once through the skull.
