DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What should I do with this area?

Construct glass up-down staircases on every tile of open space on your map. It will look as though your dwarves are flying! Add occasional platforms of glass floors to build stockpiles or workshops or what-have-you. Make a fortress in this giant staircase monstrosity.

I'd guess that they were captured, and since humans are larger (and statistically better at individual combat) than goblins, it's not impossible that humans would become leaders, however it is that that's decided.

Which is why it's a good idea to use one hand when dealing with open circuits. That way, if you complete a circuit through your fingers or palm, it just fries the hand, as opposed to your upper torso.

Except it's taped over with [MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:SKIN:SKIN_TEMPLATE].
This... if this shows up in my dreams I will drown you in magma.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Hammers or maces

no use, they're not able to hold them, and it'd be ridiculous if they could. Great axes are 2h to a human. Dwarves wield one handed human swords as claymores. Can you imagine the destruction of a dwarf with a great axe? On second thought, maybe I should mod that in...
I want to make handheld dwarven siege engines. Axes the size of dragons, crossbows the size of workshops and hammers the size of your mom.

Hammers are inherently dwarfier. Silver has the general consensus of being superior for blunt weaponry, but steel, copper and iron have all received quite satisfactory reports.

Adamantine is only to be used for Hammerers, if those ever happen.

Afterwards I kept him in the military barracks (on a restraint) not wanting him to get harmed. ;).

Could you please drop him into HFS and tell us what happens?
Horrifying barks come from the fortress above!

Just change the raws to extend kittenhood by a few millenia. If you have room for cat breeding, you should produce only kittens.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Your best artifact ever

My artifacts mostly suck (a silk fibre left sock?) but my favourite was a rock statue of the creator staring at roaches, adorned with fox leather, I think.  He hates roaches.  When I put it on display in the main room, he eventually went mad....
A true bohemian, suffering for his art.

On the topic of bonecarvers, I sort of like them, since they lessen the load on my refuse stockpiles. Also they ease my insatiable waste-not-want-not tendencies.

Blood cake sounds like the dwarfiest of snacks. The only superiors would be Clown ichor, elf cartilage and kitten nervous tissue variants thereof.

Don't move your metalsmiths to your fortress, move your fortress to your metalsmiths.
I'd tell you to literally cave-in your entire fortress several dozen z-levels down but that would take forever, even at 200 FPS.

No-pause during menu actions seems kind of fun, actually. Adds an actiony-aspect to it.

I just don't assign a captain of the guard. Mayor can bitch about his crystal glass portals all he wants, he's not getting jack.

Full steel should be more than strong enough to withstand the poisonous bite. Since material beasts have been nerfed, they should be killable by simply slicing it enough. Send only your warriors out to fight it. It should be enough. Given the way materials work, all non-metals are incredibly feeble compared to metals.
