Is it just me, or have the average quality of artifacts decreased since 40d? I used to get much fancier artifacts and now I'm lucky if they're worth more than 10k dorfbucks.

I got a bunch of questions: four to be exact.
1. How to I channel water up and down (I know a stupid way of doing it down, just dig the water underneith it and make a sort of channel doo-dad.) and does water evaporate if it's underground or will it just stay there forever?

2. In this new version I've recieved migrants that don't work and they have special titles like "Hunter" and "Drunk". What the hell is that all about?

3. Is there any guide I can read that'll take my hand and guide me through this over-complicated new military system?

4. How many z-layers deep do I usually have to dig in order to get into the cavern biome?

1: Channel down and the water falls down. If you want water to go up, use screw pumps. Any water at all that is 1/7 evaporates.

I was wondering this too. Also, does obsidian show up in the z-stone menu or do you still have to resort to removing [MAX_EDGE] from the raws when you want to switch?

MINOR: Any damage that doesn't have functional/structural consequences (might be heavy bleeding, though).

And for my question(s):

Is there any difference at all between horizontal bars and grates besides that bars have to be made out of metal? Also, is there a reason to use vertical bars over fortifications?

Normal dwarfs get a place in the catacombs. Useful nobles (Dungeon master, Bookkeeper, etc) gets tombs. Useless nobles are fed to whoever is sieging me next.
