Roll To Dodge / Re: Zealots and Demons RTD Turn 21: Darkness
« on: October 21, 2010, 08:03:38 pm »
Quote from: Flintus
Necrotic Bolt the wight before taking out my pistol ready to counterattack.

You open the door and bust into the room, recognizing the Wight as probably the biggest threat, you decide to face him first.

[5] [(1+2)x2=6-5(resistance)=1 damage]  Shooting off a necrotic bolt, you hit the Wight, but barely a mark is left where you hit him.  "You'll have to do much better than that!"  the wight says with an evil smirk.

[6]  You prepare to counter-attack with your pistol the first creature that attacks you.  (counter-attacks first enemy to attack)

Quote from: Frelock
Attempt to imbue holy mana into my sword so it'll do a little more damage against undead for a time.  Then attack the wight.

[6 out of 3 Enchantment test]  You place all you mana into the sword, to cause extra-damage against the undead.  Running forward you rush towards the wight.  [5]  You get to him as he is distracted by taunting Flintus you reach him and deal [4] [2+3+2=7 damage] a moderate blow to the body of the Wight.

Quote from: CoughDrop
Use lesser healing hand on myself and ask everyone else if they are OK. Ask Guy what his real name is, seeing as we've all shared a brotherly love of battle now.

"No really, what is your name Guy?"  you ask again, determined to know his true name.

"If you really must know, my name is Gardios Sorrowsworn.  The name Guy is what I use in most places however."

[4][7]  You cast Lesser Healing Hand on yourself, completely healing all the wounds you sustained during the battle.

Quote from: kilakan
Meditate and attempt to regain my mana.

[5]  You successfully regenerate half of your mana this turn.  You see or hear nothing that happened this turn however.

Quote from: SeriousConcentrate
I assess the situation; I'm unsure if I can hurt the non-corporeal enemies, so I aim for the skeleton's skull and fire.

[1]  Assessing the situation, you point your rifle in the direction of the skeleton's skull, being unsure whether your bullets are sufficient to damage the ghosts.  Not bothering to look through the scope, you completely miss the skeleton.  (-1 to defense as you berate yourself)

Quote from: Ochita
Find some type of weapon in this room.

[4]  You look around for weapons, the best you can find is a spear made of twisted Gibbering Goblin Flesh.  Seeing no alternatives, take the spear and separate the goblin from it.  You have no confidence in this weapon.

Inventory:  Twisted Flesh Spear (-1 to hit, +1 to damage)

Quote from: Gardios "Guy" Sorrowsworn
Continue to the next room.

"That was only the beginning.  Don't celebrate yet.  The Gibberer was only a guard for what we will face next.  I now know who we will be facing next.  Believe me when I say that Velnex, The Blood Lord, is no push-over.  Let's go."

[4]  You lead everyone, excluding Khan who was meditating out of the room and to the entrance to the next chamber.  The entrance is tall and narrow, with no doors.  It appeared to be made out of bloody bones.  Gardios whispers, "I will go in first, in stealth.  Do not follow me until I have occupied Velnex's attention.  If I die, run, and tell the guard as quick as you can what took place here, they would be our last chance to take Velnex down.  I go now."

[7 vs. 3 Perception check]  Gardios enters the room with his cloak of stealth draped around him, seemingly melting into the background, even to your eyes.  Gardios loads his most powerful shell, #14 and loads it into his caster pistol silently.  Now to wait for the right moment.

Enemy Turns

Wight:

[5]  "You will regret that Crusader"  says the Wight as winds begin to swirl around him.  Frelock feels himself being pushed backwards and tries to resist it [2] but fails as the Wights winds push him straight into the wall.

[5]  "LET DARKNESS REIGN!!!"  Says the Wight as magically causing all the torches in the room extinguish themselves, leaving only Flintus able to see what is going on around him.  (-2 defense to Frelock and Malgun)

Ghost 1:

[1+2+1] [1 cold damage] The First ghost appears behind Malgun, not that he would know it, before it's too late.  The ghost attacks Malgun by placing his arm through Malgun and chilling the insides of Malgun.

Ghost 2:

[2+2] [2 cold damage]  The Second Ghost attacks Frelock, also placing his arm through Frelock trying to chill his insides causing death, but resulting only in modest damage.

Skeletal Warrior:  [1]  The Skeletal warrior rushes towards Flintus, expecting him to also be blinded by the darkness, but Flintus dodges out of the way of the Skeletal Warrior's attack easily.  [3+1(bonus from 1 attack roll by the Warrior)=4]  Flintus let's a bullet fly into the Skeletal Warrior.  [2+2-2=2]  The bullet hits, but the Skeleton raises his enchanted shield to protect him slightly from the bullet.

BTW, not to ruin anything, but you are both on your final encounters right about now.  After this you will collect your prizes, a random-ass dream/vision will expand on the exposition and you will meet the Zealot Representative.  I thought I'd let you know.  Also, unless Ochita expands on his reasoning behind no health increase, I'm doubling health values.

3407
I can tell you right now both of those actions are auto-fails, you might as well change them.  Though if you were to create leather out of the Foul Gibberer's regenrating flesh, that would be really powerful.  Of course only Ochita could wear that seeing as Demonic Armor insta-possesses a non-Demon Hunter.  But all of those Gibbering Cultists/Goblins were of similar construction to the Foul Gibberer with only fragments of thier past selves remaining, thus they had no need for armor or weapon, it just formed out of thier twisting flesh.

Edit:  I just thought about it, there was a spear made of twisted Gibbering Goblin Flesh, I guess you could grab that for a weapon.

Demand military update from my Military adviser.  Also schedule a meeting for an update with the Economic and Finance adviser for an over-all projection of how we are doing financially.  Ensure all of the A.I. facilities are overstocked so they will not have to open the emergency channel in all but the most extreme emergencies.  Get estimates as to when our capacity overhaul and the data-encryption projects will be done.

Send an official diplomat (if one is not already over there of course) to the UPA, the diplomats "official" mission will be to set up trade-agreements between the UPA and ourselves.  Secretly he will be trying to obtain information on their technical and production capacities as it relates to ours, (through coordinating our spies if possible to do so safely)

The Trade-Agreements, if they are set-up should be mostly an exchange of, our raw materials for their finished products so we can begin reverse-engineering their products and create our own, superior versions.

Also, I thought of a name for The Other Empire.  It shall now be known as The Ghostfang Collective.

Edit:  I'm OCD about including as much as I can in a post, and also spelling and such.

Quarantine all A.I. testing facilities from our main networks, setting up a specialized network which connects only the AI testing labs.  Communications to and from the labs to me will occur during supply drop-offs.  The A.I. testing facilities will be set to work on bettering our data-encryption methods.  Begin expanding our servers/network capacity.

edit:  Also if mah leader needs a name, Viscoth Norrec works for me.

« on: October 21, 2010, 01:55:23 am »
T'is OK CoughDrop, I wasn't sure whether it was sarcasm or if you really wanted an explanation for how I came up with those results, granted Guy got a huge number of actions, but everybody tried to attack him this turn so I guess that would result in a lot of actions no matter what.

Quote from: SeriousConcentrate
A shame to lose my trap-box, but it's too heavy for me to make a similar jump, I think. However, it can still serve as a step to jump from, with a proper running start of course. I'll ask Flintus to help me look for the way to disarm the mechanism, but if we can't find/disarm it, I'll try to jump it.

Quote from: Flintus10
work with serious to disarm the trap.

[9+2+4=15 out of 10 (construction skill)]  Working together, Malgun and Flintus disarm the pressure plates mechanism.  [4]  Just to be on the safe side Malgun places his trap box on the trap.  When nothing happens, he deems it safe and both Malgun and Flintus cross to where Frelock was and follow him as he enters the stair case.

Quote from: Frelock
If the others accidentally activate the spear gauntlet, start slicing spears apart with my sword as they appear, to make it safer.  Otherwise, stride through door and continue slicing enemies.

[5]  You head down the stairs, the air grows unnaturally cold.  Something far more foul than goblins is down here, [knowledge check: 6]  You recognize these traits from your training as a Crusader, you are entering the lair of a wight, perhaps more than one.  You reach the door to the next room, taking a look you take a note of the enemies in the room.

2 Ghosts, 1 Wight, 1 Skeletal Warrior.

Quote from: CoughDrop
In an attempt to keep up with the pace of Guy, I attempt to beat the cultist in front of me with my staff. Also, upon seeing Khan going slightly crazy, I attempt to push a Tear of the Penitent down his esophagus. Attempt to cast Just Retribution at the Demon. Also ask Guy if his real name is Jesus what his real name is just for kicks.

[5] [6x2=12 damage]  You run up to the nearest Cultist, and with a swing of your staff, you seperate his head from body.  Effective.

[1]  You take a look at Khan, he looks fine, you have a demon to worry about!  You turn your back to Khan and don't give a second thought about him.

[3]  [(2+6)/2=4 damage]  "This good enough for you?"  you say to Guy as your channel the energy of justice through your staff and cast it at the Gibberer, who lets out a howl of pain.

"Who are you anyhow "Guy", surely not the humble Demon Hunter you led us to believe?"

Quote from: Ochita
Shove the gun into a mouth and fire.

[5] [5] [5] [(4+1)x2=10 damage(no joke you got this result 3 times... dice love you)]   Running forward, you force yourself towards one of the beast's mouths and let fire three rounds. Soon the Foul Gibberer is nothing more than a pile of flesh, quickly disintegrating as the creatures foul nature can fuel it no more.

You get +1 Gun Skill by the way.

Quote from: Guy
Clap Ochita on the back as I finish off the last Cultist with my sword.

[5] [auto-kill (higher skill than damage needed to kill)] You congratulate Ochita on his kill by slapping him on the back as you walk by to the final cultist, sword in your hand.  Placing your foot on his chest to hold him down you stab him in the face instantly killing him.  You put all your weapons back in their proper places.

"I'm of some minor renown in certain circles Dor'lek.  I'm also known as Viscoth."  You recognize the name as the first Demon Hunter.  Obviously he is joking as Viscoth has been dead for hundreds of years.

Quote from: Khan w/ AI
Thank Ochita for killing the Gibberer.  Focus on regaining mana.

[3]  You thank Ochita for heroically preventing you from falling to the Gibberer's insanity.  You focus on restoring mana and get a whole extra mana this turn.

The Gibberer has no head, it's a ball of flesh, eyes, and mouths.  Just an f.y.i.

Also Ochita, why did you not want health doubled, I want to hear the reasoning behind that.

OK, no it's not Jesus, a lot of it was actually your holy light spell ruining monster rolls. I decided that if for any reason an attack is 0 or lower you get counter-attacked with a basic 1d4 no modifier attack, kicking was the only thing I could think of.  As for Guy rolling and getting up, that was caused by Foul Gibberer getting a 1, which should only worsen his situation, I thought improving Guy's situation was the best way to ruin the Gibberer's day.

The AoE spell, gun shot, and trip were all on his combat turn.  I actually have to thank you for that Holy Light, it made Guy look like a lot more of a bad-ass than he otherwise would be :P  i.e. with out you, he'd be crawling out of the Foul Gibberer's mass that was trying to simultaneously engulf and eat him, and getting beat on by a cultist, of course one had a natural miss, but the other would have hit.  Actually, no, he'd still have the -1 modifier so it'd be a crit, and a light hit.

edit:  Of course now that I think about it more, I should have had the cultist attack himself, that would have been better, oh well, counter attacks work too.

Hmmm, I'm curious as to why you say no, Ochita.  I want to hear your thoughts before I make a decision.

Quote from: Ochita
Fire a burst at the demon itself, try to get the eyes.

[3] [3] [6] [(3+1)/2=2] [(3+1)/2=2]  You shoot a short burst at the Foul Gibberer, most of the bullets hitting, none in any vital spots however.

Quote from: CoughDrop
Attempt once again to fire holy light at the demon.

[5]  With a houl of rage, you unleash Holy light at the Gibberer, it is much brighter than you anticipated and doubles all enemies chance to miss this turn.

Quote from: kilakan
Blast an elemental bolt of fire off at the gibber-er while attacking the cultists with my flaming sword

[4]  With a wave of your staff and a simple spoken word you shoot a bolt of pure fire towards the Gibberer for [6] damage.  Turning to the nearest cultist [6] You telegraph your attack and he dodges in time.

Quote from: SeriousConcentrate
There still might be traps about. The spot I'm standing on seems safe, so I'll look around from here and try to spot anything out of the ordinary.

Quote from: Flintus10
I will assist serious in looking for traps.

[2+5]  You look for traps, however Flintus's dark vision proves to be better than torch light as he spots the next trap.  You spot a pressure plate that will activate a gauntlet of spears coming from the floor, ceiling and walls.  There must be some way to deactivate it, or perhaps by-pass it.

Quote from: Frelock
If Serious decides it's safe, continue on.  If there is an obstacle, figure out how to go around it.

[6]  "This one's easy."  says Frelock, who with a running start jumps over the pressure plate and runs through the gauntlet without ever setting off a single spear.  [3]  Now that you are here you can see another door, cautiously looking through it, you see it is a staircase that goes down.  You decide to wait for Malgun and Flintus for the moment.

Quote from: Guy
Use Soul Harvest on Gibbering Cultists and Gibbering Goblin.  Put Gun to the Foul Gibberer's... mass, and retreat cautiously, avoiding any attacks.

[4] [4+3] [4+1] [2+4]  "Your souls are trapped no longer, foul creatures, says the demon hunter blasting the three lesser gibbering creatures with Soul Harvest, which drains some of their very essence from them in order to damage their physical being.

[5] [(3+4+3)x2 = 20 damage]  Placing his enchanted gun to the center mass of the Gibberer, Guy let's loose a powerful shot that tears part of the demon asunder leaving a hole where the Foul Gibberer's flesh used to be.

[1]  Guy attempts to retreat further away from the demon, but trips over one of the Gibberer's flesh strands, this won't end well. [+1 to enemy attack rolls]

Enemy Turns

Foul Gibberer:  [6-2 = 4]  The Gibberer let's loose a mighty laugh as it cast's the gaze of insanity towards Khan.  [Resistance roll: 1]  "YOU SERVE ME NOW MORTAL"  You hear screamed within your mind.  [1 damage]  [2+1-2=1]  It also tries to engulf Guy under it's mass, but Guy rolls out of the way in time and stands back up, ready to fight on.  (+1 to enemy attack rolls removed)

Gibbering Cultist 1:  [2-2=0]  The Gibbering Cultist rushes towards Guy, trying to attack him, but his eyes, still adjusting to the dark chamber after Dor'leks mighty flash of light, does not see Guy preparing a kick.  [4] [4 damage]  The kick lands directly in the cultist's chest sending him flying backwards.

Gibbering Cultist 2:  [4-2=2]  The second cultist rushes towards Guy as well but missed Guy's location.  "You guy's going to let me have all the fun?"  Guy asks

DF General Discussion / Re: Fortress Goal
« on: October 19, 2010, 10:23:13 pm »
My goal is to make a fortress where life is perfectly safe for my dwarves, it goes roughly like this.

1)  Set up farms

2)  Set up workshop area

3)  Create a nice sized above ground fortress to protect from anything flying

4)  Get War Animals/Military up and running as well as start producing weapon traps

5)  Become too afraid of breaching a cavern and not being prepared for it that I dither around, get bored, and abandon.

That's just about how all my forts go, if I ever got to the caverns though the next step would be wall off caverns. . . then win?  I dunno, I play this game too conservatively :P

You guys got me to thinking, I think your health is a bit underpowered as compared to spells and crits, I might double your health to protect against insta-gibs, thoughts?

Quote from: Ochita
Get ready for a big battle, eat the chicken leg.

[4]  OM NOM NOM NOM.  Cheeken good. (lol random The Fifth Element reference)  Also you load your rifle and and get ready to kill whatever is in that room.

Guy throws the door open and bursts into the room.  Taking advantage of the confusion, you take note the enemies in the room.  They've all been turned into gibbering monstrosities, completely crazed by the demon, and now spewing nonsense and attacking anything they think to be an enemy.

5 Gibbering Goblins, 2 Gibbering Cultists, 1 Foul Gibberer

Quote from: kilakan
Recast earthskin, draw sword and prepare to attack the first non-gibbering enemy I see.

[3]  You recast earthskin,  upon entering the room after Guy threw the door open, you find all of your enemies are gibbering.  [6]  Not pausing you run up to the nearest Goblin and [6] he nimbly dodges out of the way of your powerful sword blow.

Quote from: CoughDrop
Prepare and/or cast holy light at the demon.

[1]  You enter the room, upon seeing the demon you are seized with fear.  [3]  You resist being mind-controlled, but do nothing useful for this turn.

Quote from: Frelock
I'll try and get across stepping only on the airplanes.

[5]  You nimbly get across by stepping only on the airplanes, no darts come out to ruin your day.  SUCCESS!

Quote from: Flintus10
If Frelock isn't immediately peppered with darts I will follow along the plane tiles.

[4]  You walk across, carefully placing each foot on the safe tiles.  You make it across safely.

Quote from: SeriousConcentrate
Using the stock of my rifle, I'll lean slightly into the hallway and try pressing down on each tile. When I find one that doesn't trigger the trap, I'll go across on that type of tile.

[4]  Just to make sure you test the other tiles, it appears the planes were in fact the only way across, you cross on the place sucessfully.  Now, to deal with the rest of this corridor.

Quote from: Guy
Fire a number three shell, and cut into the foul gibberer with the Longsword of Courage.

[6]  Guy takes out his Caster and loads it with a number three shell.  The gun whils with power as it charges up.  Throwing the door open Guy expertly fires the gun in such a way that the blinding flash blinds only his enemies and not his allies.  (damage rolls for all enemies [1] [4] [4] [5] [3] [6] [5] [1])

"This ends now."  he says running forward to the foul gibberer, nothing more than a ball of flesh with eyes and mouths that spew insanity.  [4]  He hits the gibberer, though the wound seems to regenerate somewhat. [6+4-4=6 damage]

Enemy turns

Foul Gibberer:  It's 10 mouths speak at once with one voice.  "You should not be here!  Your souls, belong to me!" Being blinded, it's casts it's gaze of insanity towards one of the Human Cultists for [3] damage and no effect.  The other cultist gets the brunt of the gibberer's attack in the form of being bitten with it's sharpened teeth for [2] damage.  The Gibberer is a fail boat.

Gibbering Cultist 1:  [5]  The Gibbering cultist blindly runs towards Dor'lek and starts beating him with his arms for [3] damage.

Gibbering Cultist 2:  [4]  The Gibbering cultist lashes out at anything near-by, which just happens to be himself.  [1] He begins biting his own foot for 1 damage.

Gibbering Goblins 1, 3, 4:  Burn up in a ball of light when Guy's light hits them.  They leave nothing behind to show thier presence.

Gibbering Goblin 2:  [3]  The goblins mutters something about muffins and then runs to the Foul Gibberer and begins [2]  Ineffectively beating on it with it's fists.

Gibbering Goblin 5:  [6]  The goblin yells "EX NATASH KEL FTOOG MC'DONALDS!!!"  as he [6] impales himself on a spike made of his own twisting flesh, no doubt a side-effect of the madness caused by the Gibberer.

I just have a random question.  At what point do most you try and find the caverns.  I've never actually broken into them because I'm afraid a random flying whatever will fly into my fortress and mess things up.  I mean, I just have anxiety issues about a breaching the caverns.  So, I ask you, oh B12'ers, when do you usually breach the first cavern, and how dangerous is that first level?
