Regarding pets -- will a dwarf eventually adopt an available pet even if they do not have an innate preference for that animal?

E.g., I catch 20 wolves, tame them, and put them all up for adoption. Will only dwarves who like wolves for their cunning adopt the pets, or will other lonely dwarves just for the sheer thrill of it?

Regarding the Abaddon bleeding -- why don't you simply make their blood boil at room temperature? It will not be deadly because it is room temperature, and then they will not leave blood pools everywhere.

I dont know the answer but I've been itching to test this. However, I consider these descriptive bodyparts add some fun varieties to the game so I havent touched it yet. It's not like fingers and such which are simply annoyance.

Dwarf Fortress has a ton of innate creatures, most of which are either sharks, fish, monkeys, or apes. The thing is, all of these creatures have leather, and even though it's the same valueless (or relatively valueless, anyway) brown stuff, the game feels the need to inform me of the specific dead simian that gave its skin for whomever's outfit.

Surely, there's some way to simplify this and reduce my internal OCD dissonance by making all of those various non value multiplied leather the same type? I'm not talking about simply hiding the animal's name from the leather -- I want horses, cats, dogs, mules, etc. all the domestic animals, to give out a single item: leather.

Can this be done?

Designate an area as a garbage pit, and then build your party room below that. Dump the food and booze ya want, and, after reclaiming, the party room has all its food and drink it needs! Voila!

Enemy siegers can also give birth, by the way, if you've never seen one of the unicorns the elves bring when they attack have foals.

In addition, if you add in a sieging race that is not intelligent, like giant cave spiders, they may also have offspring during sieges.

I thought vanilla unicorns lacked a Child tag? I know they don't have "pet", so I bet [MOUNT_EXOTIC] works similarly to [PET] and [PET_EXOTIC]

I have this issue in adventure mode, but it occurs when moving between sites.

I also have this in fort mode, but only when I move up from 4x4 to 5x5 or larger. (This is in .16, anyway)

I like bumping worldgen short at 999. That way, if you've got 1 fort per world, you can easily see how many years your fort has survived, simply by looking at the date.

For the longest time, I thought HFS stood for HellFire Sea. Some allusion to the magma sea and it may have made sense, but there was still a lot of usage issues that had my scratching my head in confusion.

Nightcreatures have some weird anatomy. I fought one with only a single eye, but left and right eyelids. And is it just me, or do all sorts of nightcreatures lack things like fingers and toes?

Part 19 of my LP is up.

Also that war hammer is pretty cool just because it's made from the cave kraken that killed Dishmab, but it still sucks as a weapon. I guess I'll find some way to use it for decorating purposes. I do have a display case mod downloaded.


It's gotta be better than punching and kicking though, so it might give the rest of your unarmed military a better go of it. 'sides, it'll raise their maceman skill for when you get a proper weapon.
