Moody dwarves build glass furniture out of raw glass though. It boggles the mind.

Magma axe? Pfah! Anyone knows that 4 LAVA Axes are enough to kill most anything. Just make sure you have enough mountains.

I wonder if when the dwarves get buffeted by the waves they're generating "rescue me" jobs, similar to cave-ins. The other dwarves start to rush over, but by the time they get there, the dwarf is no longer in need of rescue, so they can simply mill about.

Just an FYI: Circles of constructions are a b*#%@. Not for the faint of patience, truly.

I wish you luck.

So, "no, there's no preferred way to measure density". Ah well, I shoulda helped out!

Oooh, wait, I can still fix a typo!

Bwahaha. I've saved the mangroves. All of them.

The wiki should really note the change of units from one article to another.

It does now, at least in the table headers.

Any reason you didn't do the conversions? I think that, generally speaking, consistency is just as important as accuracy. I don't care if it uses g / m^3 or kg / m^3 , I'm just trying to understand why the wiki wound up using two different units in the first place. (Actually, it's probably because it's a wiki) Aka, it just bugs me. (See! I'm on topic!  ;))

Where are people getting "weight" from. Even featherwood has a density of 100 -- many times that of iron or steel -- and if density is the only thing that contributes towards weight, there's no reason *any* wood crossbow should be outweighed by a metal one. Featherwood is 5 times as dense as platinum.

You're almost definitely misreading some of the numbers - while feather wood does indeed have a density of 100, iron and steel have a density of 7850, and platinum has a density of 21400. Feather wood is the lightest material in the entire game, and Adamantine (with density 200) is the second lightest.

Perhaps the wiki is inconsistantly calculating densities than. For reference, I am comparing this page: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Metal

and this one: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Tree

I prefer carving upward ramps -- they don't suffer from the grid-block mentality that channeling uses (which makes more than one miner channeling out a large area inefficient).

Just watch out for channeling out trees.

Already dug it out down to the 90s. It's getting slower the further down it goes, because somehow my haulers refuse to carry food down to the miner, so he has to spend whole months running back up to the top-level camp just to eat and drink.

It might be faster to start from the end and work up then.
