OK, I'll admit it, I have absolutely no idea what that is.

There's a towercap mushroom growing in the middle of my obsidian casting. The damn thing has lava *on top of it* and its still just chilling, indifferent to my anger.

well, interestingly enough, while pond-ing the magma directly doesn't seem to produce the magma, pond-ing the space next to the magma and allowing the overflow to... overflow produces the block just fine. This will be an arduous filling process...

I know you can't build walls over constructed floors, perhaps that extends to ramps as well? If so, simply deconstruct the floor, and build the ramp in its place.

For whatever reason, I've only had humans come in year 3 onwards. Elves show up in year 2 in my games, and dwarves are there from the first autumn of year 1. (Since embark, clearly).

Can zombie dragons breathe fire? I recently fought one off, and though it incinerated the desert cacti quite easily, it wasn't able to ignite any of the 6 dogs slowly denting it to death.

Is that normal?

This isn't helpful at all, but I really found that picture funny.

Okay just kidding I'll offer some advice, you're gonna need to redirect the magma to drop from above, along with the water probably, this is how all obsidian structures should be built really.

It was dropping from above, actually. (The tunnels you see in that picture are for the seamless layer below). I think what happened is that since my FPS plummeted to near 20 (I should be so lucky, right, ha!) and I chickened out of filling all 4096 with 2/7 water, evaporation happened, and the lava had already enclosed the space before more water could flow in.

So how can I *fix* it? I wasn't having any luck with bucket-powered obsidian manufacturing earlier, but I don't know if that's due to dwarven laziness or actual game mechanics preventing it.

I was trying to make an obsidian cube (64x64x8!), but I ran into trouble making the second layer (as pictured). Is there anyway to easily fix this and restore uniformity to my cube?

They cannot. Magma has no flow.

Even if you give it flow via screwpump?

Just wanted to pop in here with a bug report of sorts. In the .12 and .14 versions of the graphics set at least (Man, I'm never going to keep up to date with the rate Toady keeps pumping out releases...) doors made out of Olivine use the Masterwork/Gem symbol instead of the door symbol, and doors made out of most wood likewise don't resemble doors (though not a recognizable symbol to me).

Is this a bug? Necessary quirk in the way the set is implemented?
It's a bug with the engine, no solution has been found short of not making olivine doors.
I literally have no control over which tile is used for any doors, let alone rock specific doors.
Sorry. :(

Ah, well. Good to know. I discovered that nickel doors are suitably impressive, and *also* are magmasafe. It's win-win!

Just  the default 3x3. My fort starts on the surface at 143, and the very bottom of the map is -20something. I haven't dug very deep, apart from a stairwell that goes down to level 73,but that's just 4 tiles of up/down squares.


this. stairs kills fps, for no particular reason. I used to dig a 3x3 staircase to hell a la Led Zeppelin, but that is very very bad on the pathfinder.
