One of my forts I had the "Killinator" or some such other made up word (curses to me for forgetting the name)- a 20x3 gauntlet of sawblade weapon traps. Repelled countless sieges and made a gorgeous mess of things....


until the Giant cave swallow riders  :(

I think its just a case of scale and the limited graphics avaliable to DF.

One square on the world map (far right on embark screen) equals several several more squares in the Region map (middle) which in turn equates to each 16x16 embark area (left-most map).

So i suppose im tryin to say that although things may look real close together and grassy on the world map at generation, only way to make sure what is what is to look at the local embark map when you start up. DF tends to generalize the worlds terrain the further and further zoomed out youre looking at it.

Unless I completely misunderstand your question?

While building my fortress-tower of glass, suddenly my mechanic gets a secretive mood. Fortunately he manages to get what he wanted, and runs off to build his project.
A while later he finishes, and the result made me laugh for a while.
