DF Bug Reports / Re: 'Tree' 'Muddy Shrub' Red Text
« on: July 14, 2008, 12:42:19 am »
This happened to me as well. To make it occur all you need to do is flood a big pond with shrubs and trees in it. Let it freeze and mine out the ice. Instead of revealing brown dead shrubs they are replaced by capital red text.

I think you said the reason this happened was that it forgets to record what is on that tile after it gets frozen. And then when it gets uncovered it looks for the info but can't find it. Or something like that, that was months ago.

The worldgen time shouldn't be too bad unless you try for the max sized world.

Shark leather isn't as outlandish as it sounds. They can make leather out of salmon skin and presumably they get rid of the scales first. So I'm sure they could tan shark skin in a similar fashion. And no one said the rough surface can only be on the inner side.

Has your computer ever just restarted for no apperent reason?
yeah, on my old computer. I opened it up and discovered that the CPU heatsink was a solid dust cake. Emphasis on solid. It even remained in one piece after I pulled it off but I suspect that was the cat hair.

hold it!

This would be neat. But ONLY if we had the power to turn it off. If you have a crapton of dwarves (in my case 250). They max out thier social skills and quickly become 7x legendaries. Sometimes even as children.

Imagine the spam :(

A nostalgia mode would rock. As would a "god-sandbox" mode. But those can wait.

I'd be happy with any of them. But personally I would enjoy the combat arc the most.

That's nothing, I once saw a gaming PC that maxed out its 2000w power supply.

DF Suggestions / Re: No more sandbag problems!
« on: July 10, 2008, 12:44:08 am »
I suggested a way of getting rid of this bag problem altogether a long time ago. It was mixed in with a very long winded (but detailed) post about modular workshops.

How it works is pretty simple. Instead of using bags to collect sand and have a "fill bag with sand" job. You instead integrate a bin into every glass furnace. When constructing a glass furnace this simply means you need a bin of some sort as well as a heat proof material, material type for the bin is not important. This bin can hold up to 10 units of sand. When you tally up a make glass job, one unit of sand is taken from this bin.

Filling this bin is automatic. It is no longer a production job per se, instead it is simply a hauling task. When the bin has less than 10 sand in it, a hauler will go to the sand gathering area (with a bucket), gather up a load of sand, run back to the furnace and dump the sand into the bin.

Make sense? Now that is the super duper UN-complicated version cause I'm pretty sure you don't want the wall of text.  :D

That would make more sense yes. Currently the game will track limbs lost and stuff like that. Not having that part of the system implemented would be a strange omission.

Thats just the problem. My mortality rate is zero. Artifact related deaths only amount to one or two a year.

The problem is with that many dwarves is that when they all pile into the meeting area they socialize at lightspeed. So everyone in my fortress including more than half the children have maxed out legendary social skills. Which results in max stats. Heck one of my miners went bezerk the other day and it took my dwarves ages to take him down since he was so tough.

EDIT: The number of kids just broke 110, what am I gonna do?!
