Uniforms/clothes. No more left foot double sock and right foot no sock high boot, dammit! D<

Are they set to be dumped or forbidden?

My best guess is that you're lacking the right kind of metal, wood, and shell, which is not very helpful. Cut down trees. Try to create any kind of bar you don't have. Hope that your mass fishing will lead to finding the right shells. Buy from a caravan.

Bridgeapault.

I actually built a wall and roof to contain it, then dug a pit that dropped steadily to the center, where a nice 7/7 magma bath awaited any poor soul who landed in the middle. Everyone else landed on spikes on the Z-levels down.

It didn't usually work all that great, but it sure was hilarious to flip half a squad in the air, atom-smash the ones who came straight down, and watch smoke rise from the doom hole.

As long as I keep seeing their military skills go up every month and as long as they keep training like they're supposed to, I'll just leave it at 10, then. If there is no functional difference between Train 10 and Train 2...

On that note, two questions:

1. Have any of your pump operators died of thirst? I periodically checked in on my outdoor pump hall, and cancelled the pump jobs for all the dorfs so they could eat. One fine upstanding dorf decided to Hunt For Small Animal instead of moving literally one square south to the food stockpile, and then died of dehydration when he refused to go to the drink stockpile 3 squares south.

2. Barely trained meat shields - what do you armor them with? How often do you train them? Do you give them any off-time duties aside from "Haul ALL the things!"

Funny. I have my squads of 3 set to Train 10 and they do nothing but demonstrations and sparring...

Obviously, I need werebadger soldiers.

You care about your dwarves. You give them all bedrooms instead of a mass dorm. Not a whole lot, because them's some tiny little rooms, but yes.

You don't care about efficiency, looking at the layout, total amount of workshops, and the high number of idlers.

Uhm. You're digging a farm?

...that's odd.

Check your orders regarding bodies? Try to D B C claim it? Go through the Stocks menu and see if it's frobridden?

A pump stack will drain the river quickly. I once used pumps to power an artificial waterfall, and had to re-engineer a solution to get the river running downstream of my pumps.

I'm not sure about this, but couldn't you build a staircase 2 squares away, a support 1 square away, and then build a series of floors and walls before taking apart the stairs and pulling the lever to cause a cave-in dam?

There is more of a 40 Z-level cliff than a learning curve. Heh.

Standard troubleshooting questions for the miners: do they have the labor on, can they route to the dig site, do you have enough picks, are you trying to dig through an aquifer, etc. Failing that: how dutiful and energetic are the dorfs?

In (almost) every fort, there is THE LEVER.
OMG. I forgot to put THE LEVER in my fort! How can you forget something like that?! Armok curse me. (If this Is really going to curse me, I'm going be sorry I wrote so.)

It's also more fun when you don't label any of your levers, and put them all right next to each other. :D

Have you tried building a food stockpile underfoot? I tend to designate my barracks as a Food / Weapons / Armor pile.

I caught a human child werething in a cage by accident.

I'm thinking about making a were-well or something. Still waiting for my vampire to make a well of creeping death, and then to see if I can have were-pires. Or something.
