I just started playing Dwarf Fortress again after about a year, and I recall a much larger "playing area", to build on. Am I crazy? Has it always been this small? It seems my hunters have barely anywhere to go without going up a few levels. Is there a setting or a mod that'll make the area bigger? Thanks.
Should this Thread be Stickied?

Easiest thing to prevent plant growth is to build a floor grate on the clay collection zone. Guarantees no plants and free access to the clay or sand.folks-If the clay zone is covered in underground grasses, then your dwarves can't collect any clay. Try pasturing a grazer or two in the collection zone.
I've had "collect clay" designated at my magma kiln for several years now. the kiln is powered. I have a potter. I have item hauling on. I have (what I think) is a clay collection zone designated. Yet no one collects clay. Anyone got any suggestions here? Commonly forgotten tricks for this situation?

Oddly enough, I rarely ever seen any of my dwarves actually sitting down at tables and eating. They all seem to be content with sitting inside my stockpiles and eating directly out of the barrels. Ungrateful peons.
