With my upload speed preventing me from doing a video LP and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic flat out not working on Windows 7 x64, I present to you another shot at an LP: King's Bounty: The Legend.

The King's Bounty series, from what my research tells me, was the originator of the strategy mechanics made far more famous by the Heroes of Might & Magic series. Unlike HoMM, however, it focuses more on role-play with strategic combat. This is not the original King's Bounty, but rather a more recent reboot of the series. It is semi-blind in the sense that I played about 1 to 2 hours of it. I'll be playing it on medium difficulty (mostly due to the blind factor, since I don't feel confident enough to try my luck at the harder ones).

However, an LP ain't much without audience participation so you get to make some decisions. From what I've played, every now and then a quest can present you with a choice, even if that choice boils down to diplomacy vs combat. In those cases, you get to choose which I take. In case of a tie, I'll flip a coin or roll a die as appropriate. Furthermore, you also get to choose the starting class and name of our brave hero (I reserve the right to choose a crest, which will be the Space Rangers one you can see on the screenshots below). When it comes to builds, I'll accept suggestions, but it's ultimately up to me. So, without any further boring details, have a look at what our brave and certainly most noble hero can be.

DF Modding / [MODDING] 0.40.x QUESTIONS THREAD
« on: July 07, 2014, 08:17:27 pm »
New version, new thread.

To quote my question from the other thread:
Was going to come and ask a question but then the new version is out. Still, I doubt what I'm going to ask changed. Is a boiling stone at, say, 16000 Urists (wiki claims magma is 12k and creatures made of fire are 14k) is enough to burn creatures near it?

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is, perhaps, the most well-known Star Wars cRPG out there, having spawned both a sequel and an MMO. As some may or may not remember, I attempted to do, several years ago, an LP for the second game in a narrative style, but abandoned it due to not being satisfied on how it was going. This will be a more informative LP with a challenge to keep it intresting: I'll do everything I can to keep the protagonist neutral, no matter what. Furthemore, you, the audience, will get to choose on several things, such as the protagonist's name, starting class, gender, how we treat each companion (there is no influence meter, however, so it'll be mostly for flavour) and important decisions along the way.

So to kick this off, I'll need a gender, name and class. Name is purely asthetic, while gender causes a few minor changes. The class, however, is the most important of the three. For those who don't know, the classes are:
-Soldier: The soldier is pretty straightfoward. They get high base health, good feat progression and, to compensate, gain skill points a lot slower.

-Scout: The scout is the average between the two others, having average health, feat and skill progressions. The scout will never be as tough as the soldier or versatile as the scoundrel, but also doesn't have any glaring weaknesses.

-Scoundrel: The scoundrel starts with the lowest health and has a slow feat progression, but, in return, they get a lot of skills points. As you can imagine, this is best suited to sneaking around and passing skill checks in general.

All classes gain one attribute point every four levels.

If you have any specific builds in mind, feel free to share them. Otherwise, I'll pick what skills and feats I feel is best.

Also, please avoid spoilers, or keep them in spoiler tags.

It is the near future. Over the last decades corporations have slowly gained power, eventually eclipsing that of even the most powerful countries. Soon, nations rose and fall according to the whims of corporate executive boards. They control what the masses see, what they consume, what they think. As one might imagine, life between these financial giants is rarely peaceful, and, indeed, they hire an array of private security professionals to defeat the competition. Such professionals range from experienced teams of ghost-like infiltrators to cheap, expendable spies. You are the latter. You are in the employ of Orsoni Enterprises, and your first contract is coming up. Succeed, and be rewarded. Fail, and OE will erase any and all records of your existence.

Call of Profit: Corporate Warfare is a RTD of corporate espionage and intrigue taking place in a dystopian (of course!) Earth at an indeterminate point in the future. The point, so to speak, of the game is to fulfil the contract laid before you in any way you can, be it through stealth, diplomacy, guile, combat or bribery.

I'll limit it to 5 players at first, but may allow more in as I feel more confident in my capacity to handle a larger number.

RULES:

Game runs on standard RTD rules.

Player slots are first-come, first-serve. You may reserve a spot, but take too long and another may take your place.

If a player goes too long without posting, they'll be replaced by any interested person. Players may also request replacement themselves.

If it's not allowed in the forum guidelines, it's not allowed here. Keep that in mind.

CHARACTER SHEET:
Code: [Select]
Name: Self explanatory
Gender: As above
Bio: Do try to write at least some background
Specialized Equipment: You all start with a silenced pistol (capable of holding 8 bullets, loaded) and a knife. You can add one extra piece of equipment, any equipment, here, but try to keep it within reason.

Player list:
  • Steve Winsley - Playergamer
  • Orville James Meadows - Yoink
  • Zack Adams - BlitzDungeoneer
  • Serena Fowzivich - TCM
  • Jack Systar - Toaster

It seems making plug-ins for Masterwork is all the rage these days. And yet there is no goblin plug-in. Not until now, anyway.

Ideas and suggestions are always appreciated, of course.

Goblins are one of the standard DF races, filling the evil role. While there are quite a lot more races to oppose the dwarves in materwork, I still feel that the goblins are the classical rivals.

One of the staples of DF goblins is child-snatching. The goblin snatcher is an icon of the goblin race to players, and so that is going to be quite important. You'll be able to "enlighten" snatched or captured members of other races (with the exception of the automatons), turning them into proud members of your den or tower.

Alchemy is also important, as are demonic rituals, so you'll be able to play around with potions to bolster your forces in various ways, or with mutation to create an army of mutants, as well as trying to gain favour from your demonic overlords by sacrificing the corpses of your foes (for an exceedingly low chance of anything happening, good or bad) or sacrifice your own cultists (for a greater chance of something happening). Demons, should you manage to aquire one, will be a mixed blessing. While powerful foes capable of destroying most enemies that dare face them, they are also dangerous to you, and will not hesistate to kill a goblin simply because they can.

Another thing that should differentiate the race is that when a goblin civilization is spawned in world-gen, it'll be composed of one of the three goblinoid races: night goblins, hobgoblins or snaga. This means you can get the sneaky, cowardly night goblin in one world, while in another you'll have the proud warrior-like hobgoblins. Or all three, if you are lucky enough.

Ultimately, I want goblins to have a "dictatorship" feel, where the life of a single goblin means nothing in the greater scheme of things.

Mafia / BM XXXVIV: Arcane Mafia - Vengeance (SCUM VICTORY)
« on: February 12, 2013, 10:05:32 am »
Beginner's Mafia XXXVIV

Many years ago, a faction of mages left the Arcane University, dissatisfied with some of the political decisions of the ruling members and their unwillingness to perform or authorize experiments, research or magicks considered unethical. These mages formed the Cabal, an organization dedicated to destroying the University and dominating all magick in the world.

Recently, there have been an increasing number of suspicious accidents across the University, and the Archmage himself believes this to be the work of Cabal infiltrators. To that end, he created a special team of mages, led by a senior wizard of the ruling council.

What was learned too late, however, is that this team itself had been compromised, as the senior wizard found out the hard way when he was stabbed in the back. Now, these would-be-investigators need to find out the traitors in their ranks before it is too late.

Introduction

Welcome to Beginner's Mafia XXXVIII. As the title suggests, this game is for beginners. If you have no idea how to play or you have some experience but you're still not quite sure what to do, then this is the right place for you. If you sign up, you have one goal: Learn how to play the game of mafia. Since this is not an easy thing to do on your own and we wouldn't dream of forcing you to do it, you will be assisted by two 'inexperience challenged' players, or ICs. The ICs are experienced players on the board who have signed up to help you learn. You can always trust that the advice they give is genuine, however, you cannot always trust the IC, as they are players in the game and have the same likelihood of being scum as every other single player.

If this is your first time playing, keep in mind that games of forum mafia take several weeks, and can sometimes run longer than a month, and that you are expected to be able to play continuously through that time. If you can't anticipate being able to play for that long for whatever reason, then maybe the game of mafia isn't for you. But if it is, then welcome to the mafia subforum, and I hope you have a great time playing.

Gameplay and Concept

The game of mafia has a simple concept. A large group of players known as the town plays against a smaller group of players known as the mafia. In this setup, there are nine players, with seven town and two mafia.

Before the game begins, each players is given a role and an alignment by the moderator. There are two alignments in this setup: Town and Mafia. The town outnumber the mafia, but each individual member of the town does not know the alignment of any of the other members. The mafia know the alignment of everyone on their team and they can discuss the game privately in a special mafia chat. The mafia has access to a nightkill that they may use in the Night phase, while the town occasionally has roles with abilities that are used during the night.

Once everyone has a role, the game begins in the Day phase. During the Day phase, players may discuss the game and each player has a vote that they cast publicly to lynch a player. At the end of the day after some predetermined amount of time, the player with the most votes is lynched. Lynching does two things: it reveals a player's role and alignment, and it removes a player from the game. Once lynched, a player is no longer allowed to post in the thread.

Once the day ends, the game proceeds to Night. During the Night, discussion is prohibited. The mafia team picks a target to nightkill. If available, any town power roles use their actions as well. At the end of the night, the target the mafia chose to nightkill has their role and alignment revealed, and that player is removed from the game in a similar way to being lynched. Once the night ends, the game proceeds to another Day.

Both teams win by eliminating the other. However, due to the nature of the teams, they win very differently. The town win by finding and lynching the mafia, while the mafia win by avoiding being lynched and nightkilling.

Potential Roles

Vanilla Townie - A member of the town with no special abilities.
Mafioso - A member of the mafia with no special abilities.
Cop (Town) - A cop may choose to inspect a single player during the night and learn that player's alignment.
Doctor (Town) - A doctor may choose a single player to protect during the night, preventing that player from being nightkilled.
Role-blocker (Mafia) - A role-blocker may choose a single player to block, preventing that player from performing his action.
Godfather (Mafia) - A godfather appears town to Cop inspections.

The only role that receives the success of their results in this setup is the Cop. All other roles are not informed if they were successful or not.

There is no limit to the number of Vanilla Townies or Mafiosos the game may have, but all other roles have a maximum of one.

Spoiler: Role PMs (click to show/hide)

Notes about the ICs

The ICs are here solely to teach new players how to play, but remember, they are also players in the game. This means they have the same chance to be scum as any other player and it is entirely possible for one IC or even both ICs to be scum. Regardless of their alignment, they are obligated to provide you with genuine advice, so that even if you don't trust the IC, you can trust the advice they give. Some ICs will use a special 'IC voice' to alert players that they are delivering honest, unfiltered advice, while some don't.

The ICs have the special privilege of being able to talk while dead. This is so that they can continue to give advice even if they are killed during the course of the game.

Rules

  • Voting - Votes are cast in red and should include the name of the targeted player. Other colors may be ignored.
    • Deathsword,
    • Vote Deathsword,
    • Forsooth, Deathsword is scum!,
    • Vote Scumsword,
Are all acceptable ways to cast a vote if the target is clear enough.
    • If you want to remove your vote, you may put unvote in red text. You must explicitly state this.  It is possible to put the name of the player you were voting afterwards, but it is not recommended as it can lead to confusion.
  • Death - When you are dead, you are prohibited from posting in the thread. You may make a single 'bah' post after you die, however, it must not contain any game-related information.
  • PMs - PMs between players are prohibited. You may freely PM the moderator to ask game-related questions, however, what the moderator may reveal is limited.
    • Do not quote any direct correspondence with the moderator, including role PMs and rule-related queries.
  • Edits - Editing posts is prohibited. Do not edit your post for any reason, even if your post comes out as a train-wreck of formatting, spelling, punctuation, and/or grammar. The preview button exists; use it.
  • Replacements/Activity - If you find yourself unable to play, you may, and should, request a replacement. We may try to talk you out of it if it's for any other reason besides you not having enough time to play.
    • Prods may be requested for a player. If they have not posted in the thread within 24 hours, excluding weekends, they will be prodded.
    • If you stop playing my game altogether without notifying me, I will come looking for you.
    • Please be active. The greatest killer of beginner games is poor activity.
  • Day/Night Length - Days will last 72 hours, excluding weekends. Nights will last 24 hours, or until all night actions are received. Neither of these include weekends.
  • Extensions/Shortens - A player may vote for an extension to increase the length of the day. It requires >33% of the current number of players to request an extension for an extension to be granted. A player may also vote for a shorten. It requires >50% of the current number of players for a shorten to be granted. Extensions increase day length by 48 hours, while shortens will immediately end the day as soon as possible. There is no limit to the number of extensions that may be granted with one exception. If an extension goes through and players do not make use of it there will be no more extensions on that day. If you request an extension USE IT!
    • Votes for extension/shorten are done in boldface. Extend, Extension, Extend it up yo, Shorten it out y'all are acceptable ways to vote for an extension/shorten.
    • Extensions/shortens can be opposed by declaring opposition (Oppose Shorten/Extend, I oppose this notion!, My Oppose goes to this), and they count against the total number of votes for an extension/shorten. Extensions count as opposition to shortens and vice versa.
  • External Participation - While the game is ongoing, if you are not a player, an IC, or a mod, refrain from posting in the thread.
    • Play to win! There is no hopeless situation, so don't ever give up. And remember, be bold! You learn nothing and you gain nothing by holding back.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Adventurer: The Quest - The dogs of war
« on: January 29, 2013, 06:30:53 pm »
Finally, the time has come. The time for adventure and glory! You shall venture out and complete thy quest! Which is... uh... yeah, you got so excited about this whole adventure business that you forgot what you were supposed to do. Oh well, looks like you'll just have to go out, do some heroic things and maybe try to remember what the quest was. One way or the other, soon all will know your name, which is... well, you are quite forgetful today. Why don't we start with something else, such as your intrests, where you are, your gender or how do you plan to fight the bad guys? Can't remember that either? What kind of adventurer are you?

How about you try remembering all that before you go out and get yourself killed?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / You are a headcrab: A suggestion game - Reboot
« on: September 27, 2012, 09:12:05 pm »
You are minding your on business on Xen, looking for something to eat while trying not to be eaten by a bullsquid. Suddenly there is a flash of green light and the sound of lightning and all goes dark. Then another flash of green light, and you are now in a strange place. The floor is made of metals, and from what you can see so are the walls. There are these square things all over the walls making noises, lights dot the surface above and on the other side of the room is a biped creature covered in white cloth. It's round head seems to beckon to you.

What will you do?

So, I've had this idea for some time but only now have I decided to make anything out of it. As should be obvious in this game you'll be a headcrab from VALVe's Half-Life series, and who just arrived at Black Mesa. I may roll a die every now and then for some actions, but this will be a suggestion game as stated in the thread title. This is my first forum game here, but hopefuly I won't make any mistakes.

    HORRORFAILED THE BATTLE-CANNON OF HELL

Seven dwarves stood before Kûbuk, the general of The Sacrificial Sword. They had been dragged to his office from the dungeons of Bodicereleased, where they had been previously imprisioned for several charges, including, but not limited to, stealing socks, starting a tavern brawl, aiding philosophers and consorting with kobolds.

For most prisioners, being summoned by Kûbuk was a death sentence, and for these dwarves, it'd be no different.

"Listen up, you criminal scum! His magnificence, King Ïngiz, has declared that you are to go to the area known as The Brutal Tundras of Gristle, and dig a "fortress" for yourselves there. More of your filthy criminal friends will be sent each year, until no more criminals taint the glory of The Sacrificial Sword. You'll be given a wagon and supplies to ensure you get there. If you have questions or complaints, I don't want to hear them. Now, get moving!"

Without any choice or opportunity to complain, the dwarves were escorted to the already prepared wagon and sent on their way, without any idea of the hell-hole they were being sent to.

DF Modding / Dwarf-to-Elf interaction, becoming one's worst enemy.
« on: June 02, 2012, 07:11:18 pm »
It ocurred to me that, while I was looking at the mods here, I had yet to see an interaction that caused a dwarf to turn into that which quite a few players despise: an elf. (I'm not saying there isn't one of these, but I have yet to find one.) Thus I made this little interaction to make savage embarks more intresting. For those intrested the interaction lies below.

So I've just reclaimed a fort that had a carpenter's workshop that was still being built when the last dwarf was slain, now I'm getting announcement spam identical to what I've typed in the thread title. I can't suspend said workshop, or cancel it, and am getting insane ammounts of low fps despite the high fps that I got during the first embark at said site. Should we consider that a bug?

I'm going to try to unforbid all logs to see if it gets built

EDIT: all dorfs got killed by the undead before I could find out if they would try to build it or not. I'll try to see if I can cause it again in a non-evil embark.

EDIT 2: Upon reclaiming the test site, the under-construction workshop I had placed there simply dissapeared, so I don't know what is going on.

DF Community Games & Stories / Rotbane - Dig Deeper Succession.
« on: November 30, 2011, 04:41:51 pm »
GLORY FOR ROTBANE!

Dig Deeper (by The13thRonin) can be downloaded here if you want to try out the mod or have no idea wha it's about.

I've decided, however, to add one small rule to keep things intresting and make it different from most other succession forts around: The fort must be built ABOVE-GROUND. 1Z-level deep cellars/underground farms are allowed. Deeper than that only mining (and underground tree/plant harvesting) is allowed.

Embark will be in an evil area, biome yet to be decided.

Our civ, the Momentous Boook, is the biggest dwarf civ around, nested in the cold reaches of the northwest corner of the world.

The world has been genned with 200 years of history, and kobolds have been fixed to survive.

Anyone intrested?

Play With Your Buddies / Let's Play KotOR2 (with restored content mod)

Since I like The Sith Lords so much, I've finally decided to start a LP of it. I am using the Restored Content Modification in order to provide more possibilities to the story.

Now, before I start, I'd like to ask whomever is reading this what class (guardian/sentinel/consular) should I go with, if I should go light, dark or (try to) stay neutral and, most importantly, how should my character act.

DF General Discussion / DF tutorial for 0.31.25
« on: November 14, 2011, 09:41:59 am »
I'm planning to do a tutorial video series of DF to try to teach the game to all those that refuse to play because "it's too hard". My plan is to start a fort in vanilla DF in an area with an aquifer, and try to show all the things in the game, from the most basic to the advanced (such as pump stacks, water reactors) and, should it survive long enough for me to show everything, open the HFS. I should be doing the first video today.

My question, however, is this: how complete are the tutorials that exist right now and what exactly do they cover?
