Clay pot dupe exploit?  Sure, I'll take a hundred thousand or so.

Sell price is only 20 copper per, but hey, free money.  1 plat per 50,000 pots.

Still kind of irritates me I can't bind my thumb buttons to any controls. IT'S 2013 FFS.

True dat.  I use a utility called X-Mouse Button Control.  I mostly use it to remap thumb-up and thumb-down to scroll instead of go forward/back through browser history.  But it can bind just about anything to any button, and can do that globally or for a specific program or a specific window title.

Or you can roll your own, using a macro program such as AutoHotkey.  AutoHotkey's macro language sucks but it's free, powerful, fairly well-documented, and popular enough that you can find scripts via Google.  I wrote my Terraria autoclicker in AutoHotkey's language.  It can definitely map keys to mouse buttons, including doing context-sensitive stuff.

But hey, think about what game this site is for.  You wanna talk 1980's EGA text-mode interface?

I said I wasn't reading the thread, but I guess I am after all.  I'm trying to skim over spoilers... I do appreciate those who are hiding them behind spoiler tags.  But no sweat if you don't.

Grrr.  Interface.  Key bindings.

I can't bind Up and Jump to the same key (W) anymore, because I can't climb the new ropes in that case.

And that means I can't bind Grapple to Space.  Crud.

Space for Jump, I guess.  Relearning the muscle memory's going to be a bitch.

What can I bind Grapple to?  Needs to be usable with fingers on all of WASD.  Hmm.  Caps Lock?  No, too close to Shift.  Mouse2 maybe?  Or a Mouse thumb button?  But I use those to scroll the inventory sometimes.

Don't bother replying, I'm not reading the thread right now because spoilers.  If you want to tell me something about this, PM me.

The dubstep gun is one of the best guns in videogame history.

As a concept it's great.  Quirky humor, pulled off well.

Personally, I have a low tolerance for wub-wub-wub.  I'm a grumpy old fart.  So when I buy SR4, I will probably use it just once.

There's a free DLC pack for Saint's Row 4, GAT V, available today only.

You do not have to own the base game to get this DLC.

Thanks, Rock Paper Shotgun.

Antichamber's on sale for US$6.79, marked down from US$19.99.

I don't know if I'll buy at this price.  I may wait for the holiday sale.  I expect it will be the same price or lower then.

Strangely, it's not showing up in the list of specials.  Anyone know why?

Hotline Miami is the weekend deal.  US$2.49 which is 75% off.

I got it as part of Humble Bundle 8, and really enjoyed it.  Very polished twitch gaming.

The Soundtrack is also Two-fiddy.  Don't buy it, you get it with the game.  Unencrypted 250Kbps 4kHz .ogg files.  Just look in Steam's game folder.  What are they trying to pull here?

Edit: 44kHz, not 4kHz.

Is there a way to catch this vandal at all or do I have to catch them in the act???
We run with CreeperHost by the way...

There's ways, kind of.  WorldGuard is a Bukkit plugin that will protect regions of your map from being changed.  Up-to-date for 1.6.2.  There's a bunch of sub-plugins too.

LogBlock and LogWorld are both up-to-date for 1.6.2.  Both are Bukkit plugins.  I haven't used either of them, can't comment on ease-of-use etc.

LogBlock looks a bit more suitable for monitoring, it looks like LogWorld would require some tweaking.  Both look a lot more intrusive than just monitoring for changes in specific chunks.

I expect there are equivalents for non-Bukkit servers.

I wish there was a mod that would just log changes to the savegame itself, using like a new per-chunk NBT tag or something similar.  Oh well.

Thank you simon you are amazing ! best developer ever! ( simon just sent me 15 keys )
No worries. I owe the community big time. :)

That's a cool thing to do.

Staying Out of this drawing myself, I'll buy it lnstead.  I just wanted you to know, this probably tipped me over lnto purchasing.

I'd just like the point out that Elite was procedurally generated for the express purpose of using less ram.

Elite could discard and recreate game areas at will.  And there was at most one area (star system) in play at a time.

Starbound, on the other hand, needs to keep track of deltas to its game areas.

Let's talk about Terraria for a minute.

Consider a hypothetical Terraria map made of 'chunks' that are generated on the fly.  Over the course of a game, many of these chunks will need to be altered.  Plants grow and die, water and lava flood downward, the Corruption and Hallowed spread, new ores are placed, certain mobs place blocks... and then there are all of the player-caused changes.

These changes need to persist.  So they would need to be recorded and attached to each chunk somehow.

In addition, the natural effects I mentioned happen map-wide in ways that cannot be predicted prior to generation of each and every map chunk.

On-the-fly, as-needed generation can't work for Terraria's maps.  I predict that it won't work for Starbound's maps either.

Edit:
we asked for and did get a month-early release for Terraria (and look how that turned out!).

Wasn't it released early because of a leaked beta that was being extensively pirated?  That's what I recall anyway.

Why do you need transparent pixels to add hoods?

Because... because transparent, man.

It's like, like... Alpha and stuff, y'know?

If you... imagine this, right, you got a photograph and you cut it in half, okay?  You get two smaller photos, left and right.

But if you do that to a hologram, right, you get two smaller holograms but they each show the entire original picture.

But with a pixel, man, you can't even cut it in half.  Because it's the smallest, see.  The smallest.

Gotta be something is the smallest.

But if you use Alpha, right, you can, you can fade out that pixel, which makes it smaller, kinda.  Fainter, anyway.  And you can see right through it.

Isn't that wild?  Like a hologram, man.

Thankfully, few other games are able to emulate the experiments with animals that occurs in the upper forums.  :P

I haven't been keeping up with this game at all. have they said anything about how ships are going to be powered, if at all?

Combining these two concepts... perhaps we can use kittens as fuel?

[...] I'm am hoping that "green dwarf" is a kind of star. Because there would be nothing more awesome than living on a completely green planet.

There aren't any green stars* in our universe.  The Starbound universe?  We can hope.  And petition.  And eventually mod them in.

I look at that screenshot and all I see are more colored variations of blocks that will choke up my inventory.

(I thought there might be vertically-oriented half-blocks now, but when I look more closely, I see that it's just distortion.)

minecraft has to be the most boring game i've ever played, but that's just my opinion though

You get out of Minecraft what you bring into it.  Sandbox games are like that.

edit: rofl, i've only noticed that screenshot, what exactly was changed there? "jeb" is a terrible coder and he should stop coding games

I disagree.  I think he turns out competent code.  He handles the corner cases better than Notch.  He's closing the bug reports, implementing the placeholders.

What I think he's lacking is vision.

Edit: I just checked your recent posts.  You've been here two days, haven't posted a single thing about Dwarf Fortress, and haven't posted a single positive comment about anything at all.

Why are you here?  It looks to me like you're trying to troll.

There's a commercial one called Deadly Dungeons, seems to be a mix of roguelike and old-school RPG.  I haven't played it myself.

It's normally $0.99, but happens to be free on Amazon today.
