((Yeah, a genetically engineered guy would be thrown into the HMRC for the crime of existing.  And I'm pretty sure it'd be fine.  We've had some pretty... strange inmates.  One person started the game with nearly everything aside from her brain and some skin replaced with robotic prostheses, another was a evil card-carrying mastermind-style villain with fairly extensive correspondence between her injuries and backstory.

I've been mildly curious if PW would allow a character who had the whole history of the last few missions of ER tattoo'd on him))

Can the dead be revived in time for boarding?
I would also like to know this.  Also, will we get level ups from just the ground fighting, or only boarding?  If the former, will boarding give anything extra?

Harry, could I get that emergency kit back?

Hmm.  Idiots says you played Leo, a name which seems vaugely familiar.  Was Leo the guy who got cursed with ultra regeneration by the doctor, and got used as a training parter for Renen?  Fought by continually crippling himself?

Wait, no, I think that guy had his mind rewritten because he refused to cooperate...

In any case, I'm sure that whoever's enslaving you would be fine if you just made a new char.  I mean, Leo's gone if you quit anyways.

And as far as 'too much reading',it's pretty simple as long as you avoid the OOC thread.  Just only read the mission posts from PW, and from your teammates (Which is easy because everyone puts their team at the top of their post).  As far as plot, we should be getting back to the traditional mission format after this mission.  You wouldn't need to be any more concerned with the overall plot than when the HMRC was still the HMRC.

Does anybody else get the feeling that we've been going through this whole battle with the wrong mentality? The prevailing attitude seems to be 'let's get this over with as soon as possible so that we can get to other stuff', and I really haven't drawn much enjoyment from any of the current battle. It's all just "[3+1] Yep." and "[6+2] Well."

I mean, piecewise's descriptions are really the reason I like ER, and it just seems to me like some of that soul has gotten lost in all the urgent business we have to get through. I'd really prefer fewer updates if it meant a greater fluff-to-crunch ratio. Am I only one who feels this way?

After all, if the battle really is an exercise in tedium, why bother with it in the first place?

Yep, I feel that way myself.  I mean, it was pretty easy to glean enjoyment from playing Saint, and figuring out what to use AUX for, but in terms of actual quality of updates it's pretty terrible.  To be fair, PW does have a massive amount of stuff to do- between hunting all the posts, getting proper quotes (why?), and all the backround rolls he has to do, the turns probably take a long time already.  Plus, there's only so many ways one can say "You shoot the sod!  His head goes kablooie!"

Running several small missions would probably help, because PW could update them in sequence.

Well, it sounds obvious, but helicopters are really fuel-inefficient. Useful bit of trivia I read.
Perhaps, but with the kind of energy density fuels in ER have, it'd still be viable (since running out of fuel would,'t be as much of an issue).
Yeah, this is why I was talking about multirotors so much before.  They're horrifically inefficient, but they're far more mobile and stable than just about anything else- Perfect for a combat drone if fuel efficiency can be ignored.

Also, generators are insanely powerful.  You can buy a generator that weighs a few pounds and outperforms modern car engines that weigh two hundred pounds.  And it costs two tokens, at most.

I'm curious how much harder four 5-man missions are to keep track of than one 20-man.
Easier, because you assign a team leader to each.  Also, four different threads.

What makes you think piecewise will run more than one or two at once?
There's fifty players in one mission right now.  If PW runs a single twenty man mission, 60% of the players will be inactive.  Or active in the on-ship thread, which could actually be worse. *cough cough*Tinker*cough cough*

Weapons Carrier?  Aren't ornithopters highly inefficient?  At best, they'd only be useful on worlds with flying critters that they could imitate.

...Actually, Wikipedia says Ornithopters are more efficient than helicopters.  It's saying the same about fixed-wing, but it's not really giving reasons why.

Then again, efficiency isn't really something that anyone worries about in ER.  Electricity is almost free, and rocket fuel is apparently extremely energy dense.  So maneuverability is probably more important, and a multirotor has almost anything beat there.

They're probably still quieter though.  So they'd be useful as reconnaissance vehicles.

Eh, just glue some feathers to a scout eye.

Scout eyes are rocket propelled.  They're near impossible to hide without space magic, and easily taken out with heat seeking weapons.

...ARM should really develop a man-portable heat seeking weapon, considering how much the UWM's aerial units rely on rockets.  I'll add it to my tinker projects list, I guess...

Yes, GG, let's do two things that we don't have a bonus for! [/sarcasm]

Meditation and Lore, although I'd prefer throwing Divination in there if there were any votes for it.

Found it!

Note that the Doc's partner is Parathun the Fleshsmith, who's the god of mutation and warping flesh.  Read at your own risk.

You're right!  Totally not a subject change attempt!

No, you're the only one that's done that, Toaster.  As I remember, it was also a crossover with Perplexicon.

...Y'know, a randomized slashfic generator based on Perplexicon words would be... interesting.  And disturbing.

@ syv: there are other, perhaps easier ways of getting what you want, like changeling masks, those UE cloaks or Organo-tissue Dominator Psychokinetic Amplifier.
Changeling masks... maybe.  Much mofe limited in what they can do though; I wanted to be able to manufacture medical chemicals/tools for free.
UE cloaks don't do what I want, I think.  I want to be able to look like other people, I thought those just did clothes.
Amps use Exo, rather than Will.  Also the flesh one costs fifteen tokens.

Seriously, I'm only going the shapeshift route if I can get it free (like Xan) or cheap (<7 tokens).  I probably can't, but probably isn't a reason to not try.

@loot distribution argument
I seem to remember RC saying that we'd use a "You kill it, you get its loot" system of distribution.  I don't care enough to look it up right now, but you might wanna check that before you go looting stuff that might not be yours.

Well, let's see what you need.

"Intelligent Solid Booze Bear Control"
"EnchantHelditem Mind Control Eyebeam" (Or something like that.  I know mind-control eyebeams are possible)

That gets you as far as a solid booze bear that mind controls people into going into enclosed spaces before it murders them, but I'm not quite sure how you'd make anyone who wanders nearby believe the corpse was killed by AIDS without new words.

If you have a "When person is nearby" contingency, you could cast "EnchantHeldItem Intelligent WhenPersonNearby Mind Control Nearest Person" on the corpse, then tell it to make people believe it was killed by AIDS.  If you want the bear to be able to do it themself, then add words to give it spellcasting ability, then link it's pool to yours.

Thanks, Empi!  You helped us find a word that we really can't replace!

2x Composure

It's useful in general, remember all those times we failed skill rolls for it?  Plus, we can't be sure that the snake won't need composure- it's possible that someone else will be the person to sword it.

Hooo... I haven't worked on Perplexicon in awhile...I know I had a list of contingency effects though, so I'll go dig 'em up.

...

Note that I got most of these from someone else.  I honestly don't remember now how much I changed or added- not much, I don't think.

When attacked
When casting a spell (Can be stacked with itself)
When inflicting damage
When injured
When near death (Or just death)
When unable to act
When touched

I think I'll add an actual "on death", so you can have a nuke that won't just finish you off.  I'm iffy about "hostile within ten feet" though... you could have a spell that only lights up hostiles, which would kinda ruin a lot of plots.  But then again, "detect hostiles" is a pretty common spell.

Something that would be good would be a contingency that can detect the removal/activation of another contingency.  Then you could have hard-to-remove pacifism spells ("WhenInflictingDamage TargetCaster Zentol Zentol Zentol Zentol", protected by two "WhenOtherContingencyRemoved TargetCaster Zentol Zentol Zentol Zentol")

As far as balancing it, my modified system needs the contingincies bound to something permanent- so, an object or tatoo.  It'd be overpowered, but I also have a 'magic radiation' system that causes problems based on how many magic items/tatoos you have on your person.  Kind of like how Angle was burned by the pair of control everything rings Paris made for him in the original.

Also, it's a 1-in-18 chance to cause friendly fire.  Note that the second roll's damage is worse if it rolls a one. Team B got hit with a 1-2 mortar, and only three people even had to roll to see if they were damaged, and the only person who took appreciable injuries was Steve.  Granted, everything aside from his head was jellified, but still.

Team E got hit with a 1-1, and everybody there had to roll.  Two people outright died, and several got severely wounded.

So the chances of severe damage are closer to 1-in-32.  At least for the mortars anyways- Team D got hit with a full scale arty shell that rolled a 1-2, and they were probably the worst off.
