Wow.  Well, thanks to Piecewise for running the game as long as you did, it's pretty amazing you went as long as you did.

Still, I'm sad it ended (I had plans!  I had machinations!),  but at least now I know some friends of mine will be quite happy.  Only eight at a time though.  And I get to see all the delicious words!


I'm also in favor of hearing PW's general thoughts on the game, especially around the discovery of things- how often was there someone who was trying every way to do something except the right one, and was just getting so close?

And a question:  when you said it's time to move on, by "extension of this game" did you mean the mad max with wizards thing?  Because I'd prefer that over poison.

That could work.  It would also have the benefit that PW can just go to the doc instead of searching the thread for the most recent compilation.

How would that work?  Each person in turn just quotes it and inserts their turn?  I could easily see people not complying with that.

PIECEWISE!  Since it doesn't appear one of these cheat sheets was made for this turn, I did it myself.  It's different from Emp's, but it's something at least.
What I did differently:
-I list the player's name, with the character's name appearing on mouseover.  Mostly because I would have no idea who "Zeran'tal" is, but Saurinae instantly rings a bell.
-Actions are now listed in order of posting.
-Location is listed after the name due to that.
-There's now a big spacer every five actions.
-I left notes in darkgreen where I was uncertain about something, or if there were questions being asked.  The ones in bold are addressed to PW, the others aren't.

Here's some helpful notes for people when writing your actions:
-Please do not say "Repeat last action", or "Touch it", or anything that requires someone to look back in the thread to the turn.  It makes it take longer to collect information, and it can confuse what you mean.
-If you say something like "Say words in last PM", or "Try again", That WILL result in your action getting ignored by the GM!  It is simply too difficult to go searching through pages of PMs for a particular pm which may or may not have been deleted.

Zaral isnt flame...

Dangit, it's magma.  It just keeps getting stuck in my brain as fire.

So "Zaral Zentol"- Magma Demon.  We could be the spirit of fire MAGMA.

And based on just how fun it is to say, my favorite is Zaralo Zentol.  Of course, it'll probably end up being the word for stupid or something.

Say words, and immediately wear the results, along with the helmet I made last turn.  Activate that tatoo and test my hand's strength/speed/endurance/dexterity.  Does it seem to maintain the gain from Zentol?  Then Activate the helmet, and examine the forcefield it summons.  Lastly, go wandering through the village looking for something that isn't a player to kill. Shoot it with my crossbow.

If Zentol is an insufficient name, we should add other perplexicon words to it.

Zzers Zentol means "Strong Demon", but doesn't sound as good as Zentol Zzers which makes little sense
Zentol Zorhaltoran means "Demon Vacuum" which may or may not be appropriate
Zara-beth Zentol has an unknown meaning, but sounds nice.
Zorro Zentol is actually gibberish because Zorro isn't a Perplexicon word.
Zentol Zarabel "Demon cube" not to be confused with TIMECUBE
Zerthel Zentol "Iron Demon" which sounds pretty badass.
Zaralo Zentol another unknown meaning, but Zaralo's fun to say!
Zentol Zaral "Demon flame", which also sounds pretty badass.

...Z starts to look weird after reading it enough times.

Also, I'll throw up the current turn on thursday, since today was pretty damn busy, tomorrow I'm driving cross country and the day after that is my birthday.

And no, not the Aether gang.  Nobody wants to send the wrong message... The Zentol gang would be better.   Or just Zentol.

And everyone wears demonic equipment and speaks in Faust's voice when active ;p

Edit: Even better idea: if 3 uses a non-word system, Piecewise gives us the meaning of all the perplexicon words and we speak that language as a code.

Example:
"Cycallozozion (Enemy?) Halthel Halthel Halthel!" Three enemy men where I am staring!
"Halthel, Shael Gastorpit." Man, your breath stinks.

Secondly, magical knowledge is unique to the character. Dying means losing that knowledge. And, although you can write down that knowledge or teach it to others, it takes time to learn.

How would you even do this?  By just saying "Your character doesn't know this spell" when a player says to do something with a new char?

I'm still working on how magic would work, mostly because I would be creating a new, more holistic system designed around discovery via experimentation rather then being given a list of words and just combining them. That and working on making it a deterministic system yet still one that feels "magical".

What's this?  I thought you said that Perplexicon was just a test for the magic system, so we'd be using the same thing in this new game.  Why would you have to create a new system?

Exactly how would it change?  What would be different

For now, that switches my vote back to 1.  I like the current magic system.


Beh.  Since you said people collecting info for you is useful, here's all the votes.  I left out ambiguous "3 is sounding pretty awesome"- this is pretty much just the stuff that says "I want x".  Also, I'm not sure if the talk to play Poison was serious.

@Everyone else

If we do go with 3, why don't we all start our own PC-only gang?  Everyone joins.  Sure, it'd be more difficult, but we wouldn't have any NPC's ruling over us or anything.  Plus we'd be able to form the ideal mixture of the various magic styles without having to work around the pre-existing gangs'... stylism?

That's actually starting to sound pretty awesome.  I love good post-apoc, I love the intricate magic system, I love the concept of a high level strategy game, with the people actually fighting it out in person, I love good roleplaying, and I love the term "Mad Max with wizards".  Actually, I think I'll sig that last one.

The one thing I don't love is the relative scarcity of magic.  The intricate system's no fun if you only get to play with it twice a week.

I'll switch my vote to go directly to 3, IF magic is common enough with any of those classes to cast a decent spell every other turn or so.

That's an awesome idea!  I'd rather no extra words are revealed though.  But if we end up doing 3, my vote's to have one giant battle too.

I would probably prefer 1, but 3 might be interesting.  Frankly it depends more on how the gameplay of three works- you gave us the setting, but what will we be doing? 

Pre-planned ER-type missions with five-ten-twenty players? 

Players split into the gangs fighting over areas, possibly with a strategy element? 

Just a free-roam type thing like we have now, just with a different setting? 

Ect.  All of those are very different, despite being in the same setting and with the same mechanics.

And how will sciencing work in 3?  Will the gangs all know the words already, or will you still have to figure them out?  Could you share with npc gang members, making your gang stronger thanks to learning the antimagic word or something?

Would 3 change Zentol back into "Lovecraftian dimension rip"?

Every player in Perplexicon is a violent psychopath, who would kill indiscriminately if killing indiscriminately didn't open them up to being killed discriminately.

In other words, don't kill people because then people will kill you.

I'll jump in with my own unique suggestion that takes elements from the others.

A few players volunteer to be helpers, and they collect all the actions and put them in a google doc or something.  They add the statuses themselves, to prevent cheating, and entirely handle the simple/mundane turns where people just summon a sword or walk into an area with complex spawn mechanics or something.

They leave all the stuff that is important, vauge, or needing spice to Piecewise.

That would cut down the workload immensely, spreading it betweem many different people, and everyone else would be able to continue on with their game.  The only issue would be the helpers not playing anymore, except maybe as the heroes or something.

...

If this idea gets accepted, despite how much I love playing Perplexicon, I volunteer to be a helper.  I've been hoping to run a copy of this game on another forum anyways, and this would accelerate that plan greatly.



If you do go with lowering the player count, please give the rules out to someone, so they can run a copy (with jumbled words) in a different thread, with mutually exclusive players.  That way people would still be able to play, even though they can't play with so many people.

And no, I'm not just saying that in hopes turns might happen more often.  It might be a major factor, but it's not the only reason.
