The statues are missing their beards. :P

That's no mistake! The microline statue is of a dwarf goddess and the dark ones are of an elf slaying a werechameleon.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How do you guys start your forts?

and that ENTIRE layer is Black Sand. :D

Bedrooms in sand?!

I always have this weird need to put bedrooms in rock. Otherwise I just feel like I'm wasting the potential quality boost of smoothing and engraving.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?
« on: July 16, 2012, 12:09:05 am »
After finding the masterwork named sword of my old fort, which was used by an old militia commander to kill his own necromancer father, I trekked to the tower that his father came from and killed all the necromancers in it.  Then I read the slab, learning the secrets of life and death. Then I traveled to every lair I could find, murdering and reanimating the ghastly creatures within. Now I have an army of undead night creatures and a legendary sword, with which I will destroy the world.

Fun fact: I decapitated one night creature, so now i have his body and head fighting alongside me. The idea of them working together just makes me laugh.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Optimal Population
« on: June 30, 2012, 06:24:16 pm »
I often find myself becoming bored when the population of my fortress gets too big to keep track of. I enjoy the first few months where you can keep track of who each dwarf is and what they are up to. What do you think the best population cap is for that? I’m thinking I might drop the cap to ten, then kill off the useless migrants from the first two free waves.

Whenever i find one of these i like to imagine my character as a child with a demonic imaginary friend. Sort of like aladdin mixed with death note.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dwarfy Minecart Idea
« on: May 10, 2012, 12:07:49 am »
Let me know if anyone has come up with this already, but I think the first thing i'll be making when the new release drops is a fort that is accessible only through minecart jumps.  Like some sort of central station that can send and receive minecarts, taking dwarves into the wilderness or back to the fort rapidly.

also, here is a picture of a very cute dwarf... hamster

Unfortunately Bridge Catapults are too random for this to efficiently whip hair at goblins. Let us know what you try though.

Edit: You know what? They aren't really too random, but you would have to know exactly where the evil biome line is.  They fire short range and unpredictably, but as long as you have plenty of dead bits to start with some of them should find their way onto the evil biome. The ones that don't land in the evil biome could just be recollected. Plus it's a lot easier than pressurizing all that water.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Boulderland: A Summary

Thanks everyone. Tharwen: Yes I had put up a few of these sprites before to get some feedback.  I used some, but not all of them. I suppose i'll have to make another eventually.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Boulderland: A Summary

Here is a graphical summarization of the history of Boulderland.  I usually abandon out of boredom pretty quickly, but with a name like that it was just too good to give up.

Does the far-right kobold seem any less dog-like?  I'm working on the elf faces now, and then i'll start on trolls.  I'm thinking big ugly and mean.

Even though I know what this is, every time I see this thread I imagine a fortress with mice in it.  Too much Redwall as a child. Thank you for your time.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Feedback Request
« on: March 23, 2012, 11:01:47 am »
It's been a while since i've done anything really creative with DF so i'm thinking of making a little story based on a fort.  Can i get some feedback on these initial templates for df critters? Proportions, maybe some opinions on the cutebold vs. mini lizard kobolds. Also wondering about what colors people think of when they imagine these guys.
