Wondering if anyone knows of any roguelikes with an espionage theme?

You can write one :-P.

I can even suggest an engine for you...

Hm, next weekend I'm busy so...I think I'll devote the weekend of the 30th to it.  Yes.  I'll put out a release at the end of this month, even if there's not much improvement that a user can see.

Didn't quite work out?..

Is it fun to play singleplayer-only?

Does anyone else use this service? It's, essentially, a DRM-free steam, with no client to download. I just snagged Blood Bowl and HTTT on it, because a sale's going on.

Also their support is about the best you can find in that business.

Age of Wonders, obviously. You can get all three parts on GOG pretty cheap.

Is the 1.69 patch needed for GOG version, or is ok to proceed directly to installing the mods if you have one?

the UI was optimized to speed up.

Awesome.  How much faster is it?

On my rig (Phenom 9450) which used to have noticeable lag on pretty much everything (including opening the action menu), all actions are now instant except for inventory, which used to be like 10 seconds - down to 2-3 seconds now.

Day processing seems to have been sped up as well, although not as drastically.

Unfortunately, nope.

Awright: action scheduling is in and the UI was optimized to speed up.

So I guess that it's safe to assume it's finally playable :).

Those  of you with "Full demos" can give it a shot to decide for yourselves.

Patch next week is supposed to finally introduce preset Action templates as well as optimize game speed, so I guess the important milestone is about to be reached :).

Game is currently at Patch 8, Content Patch 2, DLC 1 stage.

Here's a mockup of the territory screen (or part of it). Once again, it's not very pretty, and I would invite anyone who would like to to have a go at a better-looking one.

Spoiler: territory view (click to show/hide)

Started hacking together the world map with statistics.

I just love Stardock games, GalCiv, SoSE those are great games and it seems apropriate to pay the price asked. But 50 bucks for beta, proudly called 1.08 version? It's not even funny. What was they thinking? I mean Stardock is developer and publisher, what possible reasons could drive them to release this chunk of a code and for that price?

Apparently, they have run out of cash. Brad denies that, but since they are firing people, doing maths isn't that difficult.

Here's a mock-up of a hypothetical world map screen, though keep in mind that my MS paint skills are very limited.

Spoiler: map (click to show/hide)

Good enough after I ascii-ize it (although we might need to merge some of those territories if we'll find out there are too many).

Now we need some gameplay interface mock-ups :). Text-based ones will do, we may worry about the layout later.

If the territories are kept to a large enough size, then there will not be too many, hopefully. Failing that, if the option to apply the same instructions to multiple territories is an option, that can allow for easy large-scale management.

Mock-ups of screens will follow later today (I have quite a bit of work to do before uni).

That's true.
Waiting...

Here's some basic stuff (I'm very open to criticism).

Has lots of potential to become a micro-management hell. Ockham razor is needed direly, I think.

Can't see how it will tick so far. Nothing difficult to implement, although.

Gimme some basic chunks of content and I'll start coding. Screens, buttons, options. The more basic - the better.

@Servant Corps:

Programming-wise that'd be a very easy project. But needs lots of content. More than any freeware project is going to get.
