DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Why are my dwarves fighting each other?
« on: August 05, 2016, 02:57:13 am »
Many possibilities
1. Your sheriff was dispensing justice.
2. Allowing dwarfs to socialize will not only enable them to make friends, they can also make enemies.
3. Went berzerk due to not being able to go through a strange mood (would be accompanied by other messages as well).

DF Gameplay Questions / Flow and stairs (0.42.04)
« on: August 02, 2016, 12:38:11 pm »
I wish to pump around some magma and some water. The project will involve lots of vertical shafts. It might be more convenient for me if I tunneled those with stairs instead of just channeling out the tiles completely. Will this affect/impede the flow of water or magma in any way?

DF General Discussion / Re: MacNewbie Pack v0.9.16a with DF 40.24

I meant the PyLNP file inside the MacNewbie Launcher package, but the 0.9.5a version you linked also yields the same crash.

This might seem silly, but how would I check for installed third party python installations? I'm one of those users that usually just installs whatever addons, driver packages or additional programs he's told to install. So yeah, I might have some or I might not. A quick file search reveals no relevant hits for python or tci.
I think there should an app called PYthon launcher or IDLE in your Applications folder. Here's a development version of the launcher you can try.

Can't find either IDLE or Python launcher.

But the development version actually worked  :o
Thanks a lot  :)

Can't seem to get it to work :(
OSX 10.8.5, updated xquartz and jdk, using the launcher yields:
"PyLNP quit unexpectedly"
Using the PyLNP executable yields the same, with the terminal reading
When you say using the PyLNP executable, do you mean that you downloaded the latest version and you're seeing the same crash? If not, please download and try to see if it works.
By the way: Do you have any third party python (or Tcl) installation on your sytem? This thread indicates a problem with that, although the launcher app shoulnd't depend on system python/tcl, as it comes with the necessary dependancies prepackaged.

Uh, I think he's still alive in the last combat log, unless there are two macemen.

There are multiple macemen involved in the fight.

Not sure whether you're referring to all the lead in it as being disturbing or the name of it is.

It's a lead studded thong that menaces with stone spikes. That's horrifying enough for me :3

Bummer.
Thanks though, I'll try to work around it.

For the seed spam, create a seed stockpile withOUT barrels.

I've already done that, but the problem remained since the dwarfs would still snatch the seed bags.

DF Gameplay Questions / Dwarf hauling is weird.
« on: September 22, 2013, 11:26:14 am »
So I've started playing again after a 2-year pause. I've noticed that the hauling system seems to be a little bit different now.
My problem: instead of picking up a fish and bringing it to the food pile or picking up a plump helmet spawn and bringing it to the seed pile, my dwarfs go to the pile first, pick up a container that already has some of the stuff they're going to pick up in it (i.e. a fish barrel or a plump helmet spawn bag), then bring the container to the item, put the item in the container and the bring the whole container back. Or sometimes they don't even bring the container back, they just leave it where the item used to be. But the most annoying thing about this is the constant spam of ".. planting seeds interrupted: needs plump helmet spawn!" - I DO HAVE ENOUGH PLUMP HELMET SPAWN, BUT SOME IDIOT DWARF SNATCHED THE WHOLE BAG IN ORDER TO PICK UP ONE SEED SOMEWHERE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP!

This being dwarf fortress I'm pretty sure that I'm simply doing something wrong or have missed some sort of option. So... how do I prevent dwarfs from taking full containers from stockpiles?

Or a clumsy dwarf spilled a pickaxe on a marble artifact statue.

DF Gameplay Questions / Destroyed masterworks and unhappiness
« on: May 19, 2012, 05:44:15 pm »
A dwarf gets unhappy when one of his masterworks gets destroyed. The more masterworks he already has the less unhappy he gets.

Does this include masterworks that have already been destroyed/sold to caravans?
i.e. does the unhappiness-amount depend on the total of masterworks a dwarf created or on the total of his masterworks present on the current map?
