DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress: The Development Page
« on: February 13, 2011, 03:51:17 pm »
I'm posting a little late, but I have personally seen animals siege a town in Adventure mode: it was in a early .31 version (before .08, because I remember I couldn't butcher anything) where a town was invaded by horses and rhesus macaques.

Typical death: night creature or. ambush, archer

First death: killed by the human inhabitants of a dark fortress after I tried to get one out of the way with wrestling (didn't know how you could duck), though ironically I was there to kill their leader in the first place

I know, I just use it as a sort of balancing tactic.  I can kill anything that bleeds and most things that don't anyways, so I can afford to limit myself.

Is that why you use a buckler instead of a shield (which literally only blocks half as often)?

If holding an item by itself makes you multigrasp it, you're going to have a penalty in both accuracy and power if you try to wield it with one hand.

Dual wielding is only a good choice if both weapons can be used one-handed without penalty, and even then it generally inferior to one-handed weapon+shield.

Which is inferior to 10x weapons and 10x shields, but I consider that an exploit and don't use it.

I usually limit myself to only 1 1-handed item per hand, or a 2-handed weapon and a buckler.  It just seems more realistic to use a smaller shield with my big sword.

As far as I know, even using just a buckler takes up full use of that hand, so you're still getting penalties (though some adventurers are big/strong enough to wield normally 2-handed weapons with one).

edit: nah you can't the way df is handle now you can't attack someone under you with out doing a precision attack and those don't have charge person function so until someone can prove me wrong and I hope so. no teleporting. darn it really had hope for that.

You don't make your attack a charge by selecting it off the aim attack menu, you do it by opening the combat preferences menu with Shift+c then toggling attack preference to "charge".

It needs to be a hand to gain possession of their weapon as well.

^The "fuck nature" attitude the bogeymen take is more because everything just pathfinds to the closest target, and since the cougar and bogeymen will both be initially chasing you they'll get closer to each other if you run and start fighting.

Aren't all adventures hobos?

How do you kill whole civs though?  I always have each town regenerate its population everytime I go.  Same with castles.  Is it a matter of slogging away at it until they stop coming?

That was probably in a previous version: before .31.13 civs had smaller populations all visible at once, but now they have enormous abstract populations of members that only come into existence when they need to replace dead ones.

Ok, what if bogeys attacked you whilst you were being tracked by a demon?

I hate those things. Let them get attacked by a stick insect made of gas...

Well that might actually get them to fight each other: there have been plenty of reports of people ditching bogeymen by getting them to fight wild animals instead.

Aww. The way the topic was phrased I was expecting Kobolsds...

Anyhow,do monsters fight each other? I want to see a pitchblende badger that spews gas fight a damn Bogeyman.

Nobody but a player character is attacked by bogeymen, so a demon would only be if you used a bug or utility to play as one.
