Is there a reliable way to find dem castles pre-embark in fortress mode, or do I just have to play roulette for a while?

According to the wiki, there's one for each region tile (meaning a 16x16 embark guarantees you'll be under one) which you can find by looking in your stock screen and zooming in on the afore`mentioned weapon. Can you do that pre-embark?

^Demons spawn in adventure mode, but only when your adventure is the one who actually opens up hell (by removing the masterwork adamantine weapon in the center).

I've been wondering the same thing: when you unleash demons what do they do after they've wrecked your fortress?

Is there water on anything, and how hot/cold is it outside?

I've found that if you go off a ledge and down one z-level onto a space directly above an object that does not create a platform (such as a tree) you'll be treated as if you're flying and are capable of no movement except standing up and down. You will be stuck and only able to get out if you save, quit, then add the [FLIER] tag to whatever species it is that you're playing.

My newly genned world with visible caves has one called "Hell of Friends"

Apparently the RNG dabbles in existentialism.

reveal might work...

Reveal and the DFHack reveal option only seem to work in Fortress Mode.

Press Q and then z to see where you need to go.
Also you can use m to view the map.

No, not to a mission, I meant a utility that can give a detailed view of the interior of a site, in this case a cavern.

Are there any utility programs I can use to see anywhere in the world and thus where I need to go?

If you're in a cavern layers one does anyone have any tips on how to either go back up to the cave entrance you came from or down to cavern layer two?

For some reason there isn't shit here but some giant cave spider webs (my adventurer was even completely undisturbed for 8 hours of sleeping), so it's pretty boring here.

Up - use the Q menu to find out roughly where you are.
If you have an exported map of your world (a pic can create at the end of worldgen or in legends mode), and you had "show caves" on in the worldgen, then use it to figure out where the closest cave is. (The only ones showing on that map will be ones that went down to the caverns, I think)

You can use these two resources to figure out where the closest cave access should be, and then get there.

Bonus tip: if you do get deeper, don't go anywhere near the gas bag things. Floaties. Them. Don't touch 'em. Early last year Toady had H1N1. If you get anywhere near the floaties, your adventurer will know Toady Of Last Year's pain.

No, I've already found the cave (using the "show caves" option), gone in, and worked my way down to cavern level one. I'm asking for advice in navigating the thing: I can't get any lower than a certain point, which I think it on the same z-level as these couple of pools I've found.

How do I loot coffers/bags of the bandits I killed.\ [ g ] if from the ground. They're not built.

Also, where can I get steel and better weapons, apart from making it from my own fortress?
Buy them at shops (yellow-looking hamlets on the map) or take them off your enemies ([ g ] them off the ground)
in bold above. hope it helped!
also: press Shift-? for ingame help in all modes.

But while shops can give you some quality weapons (I don't believe you'll ever find masterful goods, and even exceptional is extremely rare) and some really strong bandits will have quality weapons, you're not going to find steel anywhere except on ambushing dwarves.

if it's going to work as a barrel, it should probably specify it's a large vessel and not a bowl or a jug
IMO, 'vessel' is clear and concise enough by itself...though it would be kind of neat to have an in-game glossary (to tell that a door and a portal are the same thing for example).  If you have large vessels, wouldn't that imply the existence of non-large vessels?  Only have adjectives when they distinguish between two things, I say.
The names of certain trap components would disagree.

As would names for daggers.

Was that the description from viewing in adventure mode? Cause I cannot find anything like that in the legends screen.

Yes.

DF General Discussion / Re: Craziest Forgotten Beast

I've not found my forgotten beastie yet  :(

I've even chained up a war dog (no 2) and levelled the stone in the surrounding area to make a flat dining spot to entice it in.

(The first dog was eaten by a giant toad)
Forgotten Beasts aren't an above-ground thing. Dig deeper.

Just wondering , Why did i just ocur one in adventure mode while sleeping , one as a king of the gobs (a clown but wathever, same thing) and one as a king of the humans o.o (yet another time , a Clown)?

Well the one I saw in adventure mode (and killed it) , was a Feathered Giant Shelled made out of Flesh Thing (some kind of tortoise) , dang it took me some time to get rid of it .

Ofc I saw titans , but seriously there werent that crazy as that FB
Demons are not the same thing as forgotten beasts. Demons can often hold political positions.

But that's only the humanoid demons. Any other one you won't even see outside of hell unless you dig too deep.
