DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Quest help. Mountains

There might be a downward ramp that's just the same colour as all the rock and it's just hard to spot.

If it's a monster there also might be a raised mound over their lair, which will have the entrance somewhere on the side.

Does the armor-user skill affect how much you are hindered by a container or its contents?

Will the crutch-walking bug (get rid of a crutch some way besides [d]ropping it and it's treated like you're sill holding it) work even if a units arm's are cut off?

Alright, I just picked up a crossbow in my left hand. I grabbed the guys quiver, equipped it, and placed the bolts inside of it. The problem is, I can't fire it. Note that I have no skill in being a marksdorf. Is this because my character is right-hand dominant or ...?
Edit: It keeps saying "You have nothing left to fire."

I'm sure it's not hand-dominance, that doesn't exist. Are you sure you have the right ammo? You can also try holding a bolt in the other hand.

^Not megaladon, rhincodon. You can find them in tropical oceans.

Before you say those things aren't big enough, remember that the DF whale isn't specifically a blue whale, and there are plenty of whales that are about the size of a rhincodon.

Do companions evolve/progress when surviving multiple adventures with you?

Yes, some people have felt they even grow faster than player characters.

^I don't think old age actually affect anything until the moment it kills you.

^To elaborate, those are quality grades. They provide a multiplicative bonus to weapons (for accuracy and damage) and armor (chance of blocking) which depends on the grade:
1. Regular: (item name), base
2. Well-crafted: -(item name)-, 1.2 times base
3. Finely-crafted: +(item name)+, 1.4 times base
4. Superior quality: *(item name)*, 1.6 times base
5. Exceptional quality: ≡(item name)≡, 1.8 times base
6. Masterful quality: ☼(item name)☼, double base
7. Artifact: item has unique name, triple base [can only be made in fortress mode by moods at random]

Also, don't mistake a quality item for an item with a quality decoration, not that they're mutually exclusive. If something has one of more decorations, the name will have a < mark for each one. Each decoration has its own quality as does the weapon itself, and the weapon's quality marker is the one closest to the item name. So +<*<-bronze long sword->*>+ means a well-crafted bronze long sword with one superior decoration and one finely-crafted decoration.

^Did you try grabbing him then attacking? I'm pretty sure that prevent dodging, though it's still not a guaranteed hit.

I just thought of something, since they're still standing won't their speed be higher than if they were on the ground? So does that mean propping them up by an embedded weapon will make them regain consciousness sooner?

The demon is probably too big to have any of that happen to him. Though if you're strangling him, maybe not. An eye gouge is the most likely to work, I haven't gotten great results with joint locks even on thing my adventure's own size.

However, Yuzuke, I think you have found a good way to train: it's not easy to hit, but it won't attack (will he?) and since it is technically conscious you still get skill point for fighting it.

^Yes, you can in theory cross the ocean by swimming, but you'll need an adventure that's a really good swimmer that can cross it before getting exhausted, the patience of a saint because it will take literally hours in real time, and a really good computer because processing so much water at once can easily cause a game to crash.

I finish my trading ,and there's an idiot sitting on that very table ! I couldn't get my money ! so I sleep untill dawn ,That man's no longer there and my money's gone !
Help !

Multiple units can stand in the same tile, but only one can stand up. If someone else is standing on a tile you need to go on, just hit [ s ] to get on the ground and be able to move into it, just remember to stand back up once you can, especially before fighting, because doing so seriously slows you down.

As for the money, either it was scattered around the area (in which case it should be on the same tile of the quick-travel map) or leaving it unattended let someone else take it. Probably the first one.

That's a bummer that dark towers are gone. Until they're re-implemented, I'll deeply cherish my memories of slaughtering dozens of goblins. :(

And I never get a chance to in the first place. My first worlds always had all the goblins displaced by humans, which included my adventurers themselves, so they never ambushed either.

Really newbish question but when I start one game lets say dwarf fortress when I try to play a different game mode it just goes straight to the load for screen how do I make it so I can play dwarf fortress and then switch to Legends or Adventure mode later?

You can only play one game per region, though you can retire an adventurer then take them out of retirement or abandon a fort then reclaim it. Or make a copy of the region, though obviously things can't affect each other from that point.

^I think they can also send caravans and have members launch ambushes.

Also, the compass isn't bugged, it just isn't always useful because all it points to is the center or entrance of a site.
