DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Question on Ranged Party Members
« on: January 11, 2011, 09:54:17 pm »
Sneaking isn't the problem, it's running out of ammo before I die. >_<
I guess I could just travel to a town first and repeatedly sell sand from the floor to stock up on arrows.

Well, if you're that short on ammo just remember to scavenge extra ammo from dead archers, ammo lying around, and to take the gear of dead enemies and allies to sell for more ammo (which you buy at the weapon shop).

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Empty container with one command?
« on: January 11, 2011, 08:15:00 pm »
I don't know how, but apparently you can [d]rop everything in a container at once instead of having to select every item individually. Can anyone tell what keys I pressed?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Has anyone tried Magma Man/Fire Man power?

^Well I stand corrected.

So there is a way to get steam power.

Admittedly, they're both giving an enormous middle finger to conservation of energy, so they're equally unrealistic, but you're right that monster-fueled steam plants are way cooler than water wheels feeding each other.

Oh wait, here's another one: dig a large cavity into the ground with a small hole at the top, fill most of the way with water, place magma man inside, seal hole.

You now have a geyser/steam mine.

Doesn't trapping one in a cage heat up the cage?  What if you trapped one in a cage and designated a garbage dump over it and had the dwarves toss some graphite and booze barrels down there?  It'd be a great deterrant for enemies.  :D

I thought cages kept things from release heat.

Also, can boiling water kill someone, because you could use them to infinitely boil a pool that has a waterfall flowing into (to replace the boiled water) it and throw prisoners into it.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Has anyone tried Magma Man/Fire Man power?
« on: January 11, 2011, 04:20:39 pm »
Because they have a fixed body temperature, magma men and fire men will release heat into a colder environment as long as they are alive. You can see this in how putting them into a body of water causes it to boil without affecting them.

Has anyone, either in vanilla DF of mods, tried to utilize this as a power source before?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Best way to remove eyes?
« on: January 11, 2011, 04:09:45 pm »
Eye tissue has a heal time of 100, compared to 2000 for bones and 6000 for nerves. Its a known fact irl that eyes are crazy-fast healing, and since DF lacks the ability to destroy eyes utterly, they will keep regrowing on you.

So can eyes that have been damaged too much to function heal and even work again, or should Toady put more nerves to be permanently damaged in the eyes?

Query: was my one adventure badass for holding down a night creature and punching it (mostly in the face) for hours on end until she passed out from exhaustion or lame for failing to kill the thing even after all that beating? (she did kill the thing latter but had to resort to a copper pick she got from its lair)

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Write a theme song.
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:53:59 am »
This is basicly a thinly disguised copy of one of my own threads with a slightly different topic.

Going by the OP this is about making your own DF related song, or at least making up DF-related lyrics for an existing song, not just posting an existing song that you might think would make a good theme. The second poster is kind of missing that.

Nevermind i just added the nobreathe tag to dwarfs to allow me to stop drowning and get out. Yeah cheap i know, but I'm not doing the whole find fortress get equip skill up process any time soon again.

You could just train swimmer at the ledge of a beach. Or spend 5 skill points to get Novice swimmer and train up to Adequate in any body of whatever that isn't liable to freeze.

I thought constructions couldn't burn in this version.

Anyway, if my adventurer is ever killed by someone who I'm not supposed to kill for a mission I'll just chop off all their limbs.

Fuuu- I mean, Daaaaaamn*... Didn't think 'bout that. Damn.
Still, I wish you luck in delivering 'justive', Chilton xD

Yes, on the down side you can't burn villages, but on the plus side it lets us have functioning magma dive bells made of ice.

i want to start doing this, can you give me a quick idea on what you did? I'm looking for ways to kill a civilization.

With the abstract entity population that were implemented in .31.13, such a task is ridiculously time consuming if not impossible (soldiers and peasants will spawn to replace the ones you kill, if not infinitely than at least a couple thousand).

One of my guys was virtually undefeatable, and was covered head to toe in bronze (at the time better than iron) armour. He was born on a large, mostly desert island in the north, and after training and becoming quite powerful there, he swam south to the mainland. He became over 4 times even more powerful then, and slew countless fierce beasts and warriors. Anyway, I felt like going back to his home. I ran way to the north, and stopped traveling. The little bit of beach before the ocean was an evil area. Anyway, as I was running full speed, I noticed a large trail of blood behind me and before I knew it, I was deceased. I checked the logs and apparently a harpy's pinky toe caught me in the neck as I was running and slit my throat.

I think you're in the wrong thread. Here is where you talk about what killed you, this thread is about what you'll do to NPCs that killed your previous adventurers.

You can bust eyes open and permanently blind them but right now you cant lop them off.

I'm not so sure it's permanent: my elf wrestler adventure tore both of a night creatures eyes (it was definitely blind) and was forced to retreat mid-battle because of exhaustion, but when the elf returned both of the thing's eyes were healed (and it definitely wasn't blind anymore). Granted, it was a night creature and they might be able to heal things playable races can't.

My most badass adventurer was the one who defeated a hydra and several night creatures with knives, and frequently cut the night creatures in half with the knife.

I was sparring with a friendly bandit to train when this happened:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's night and I no longer have my bandit buddy, hopefully the boogeymen won't get me  :-[
Is sparring a euphemism?  I don't think friendly combat has been put in for adventurers yet...  Also, What the hell are you playing as?  Anything strong enough to outright throw a human hard enough to gib them has nothing to fear from bogeymen.

Yes, I remember the entire civ turns on you the second you try to touch them, though apparently projectiles aimed at tile they don't inhabit are exclude.
