DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Adventure mode achievments!
« on: September 29, 2010, 02:22:05 am »
Something tells me you're not getting the point.

To decapitate is to cut of somethings head. To sever would be what you would say if you cut of a hand.

Yeah, that was my point.

Even if he was talking about a head, it would be like he said his hands were de-handed. You're hands aren't de-handed, your body is dehanded which means the hands were cut off. It's like the difference between cutting half of a tomato and cutting a tomato in half.

^You can't decapitate hands. Hell, you can't even decapitate heads, you can only decapitate things which have one or more heads as part of them.

When I asked a dwarf metalcrafter about the Capital, he told how "In 233, the human Cilba Bowelsugars made a journey to the Dune of Coincidence."

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?
« on: September 28, 2010, 07:56:35 pm »
OK, I'm trying to get into a Mountain Hall and even though I've gone around the entire building I can't find the fucking entrance!

Where is it? Is it underground?

Why is it that most of the wall is sandstone, but some of it it stuff like jet, cobalt, saltpeter, or even gold?

EDIT: I genuinely don't know, in the version with shops are mountain halls and forest retreats suppose to have shop or any other place to buy things?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: I'm in a pond. How the hell do I get out?

You need to be at least a novice swimmer to climb out of a pool of water and at least an adequate one to avoid drowning in level 7 water, so you're best to start as at least an adequate swimmer.

Otherwise, the only way to train swimming without risk of drowning is to find water between levels 4 and 6, and those are really rare.

DF Suggestions / Re: Dwarfs seeking revenge
« on: September 27, 2010, 09:37:18 pm »
The dev blog mentioned vengeful relations of those you killed or otherwise bother being part of the reputation features, but I'm not sure if that meant it may be applied to any given unit.

That can already happen. If a Dwarf attacks the Dwarven caravan, they become an enemy of the civilization. All the other Dwarves will attack dwarf 1. When they attack him, they become enemies to the civilization too. Then it is a Dwarven free for all.

Isn't that what they call a "loyalty cascade"?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Legendary Wrestler...?
« on: September 27, 2010, 09:29:57 pm »
So, I'm attacking this Hydra. I simply grab his left leg with my right upper arm, and now my Human is a legendary wrestler, legendary fighter, and close to leveling the skill again.

So... What the hell just happened? O_o

Hydra necks may be arrow fodder, but they're still megabeast. You get more experience fighting stronger animals/monsters, but I'm not sure exactly how it works.

Wrestling skill in particularly might have something to do with how all those heads make hydras crazy dangerous grapplers, but I'm not sure if the specific skills of what you fight or the difficulty in using certain skills effect amount of experience gained.

set on fire by a dragon, jumped  into a lake to put myself out, encased in ice as night fell

According to the wikia, if your body or clothing is on fire jumping into water won't put it out. Apparently, Toady hasn't implemented much of an "extinguish" function.

This is making me feel better about how much I suck! I drank too much blood/Ichor and was too full to eat actual food...

Warned ya.

(And it turns out i'm better at killing things than I thought. That is, if fighting everything whilst lying down changes much. Except now i'm looking for something more dangerous to run from - will any map have enemies like that? I mean, i've seen cave crocodiles and troglodites, but only with their names as "---- has been caught in a spider web.)

There are some advantages to lying down, namely some attacks can't hit you (I'm not sure which, but I think that includes projectiles), but you're also really slow.

If you wants some real dangerous shit, check the map for caves. Just in the vicinity of the entrance you'll find more interesting stuff than the standard horses and buzzards, like elk birds. Go a couple floors in and you might find a troll or two, but careful because you might also run into a giant cave spider in an enclosed area. Stealth is you friend.

As for the spider web thing, that's just a bug. Pops up when I'm adventuring all the time.

EDIT 3:
Sorry to keep posting, but the only thing I could find to attack was an Elephant...
It broke my arms and legs, but I severed an artery. It ran, but not I can only move 3 steps without passing out from the pain.

I'm having Elephant stew if it's the last thing I do!

EDIT 2: I started on a previous version it's... more 'Fun'. I wrestled a bear to death, but he broke my feet and one of my hands. My pancreas was damaged too. I tried to run, but a Cougar ambushed me, and I died. YAY!

EDIT: Ok, ok, i'm stupid. I fixed that problem.

Yeah, going with an older version (.31.12 was the last one with shops) was a smart move. Right now Toady is leading up to a major overhaul for Adventure Mode, but currently it's in a transitional phase where there's room and ground work for the new stuff, but it's not here yet.
It's like when a new house doesn't have any furniture in it.

it just hard to get a town full of undead humans to work unless someone gets lucky with a seed which ends up flooding the lands with Evil
Is it even possible in this or slightly older versions? Will a town destroyed by megabeast in evil areas turn the fallen undead?

...and yes, I want to see an undead town ruins like the "old days".

Are the undead in the current version even dead historical figures resurrected or just randomly spawned monsters like demons?

(Ok, thanks)

Well, I'm running deeper into the cave, so something stupid is BOUND to happen soon.
Sorry to keep talking, but not many people are responding. Figures.

I needed to ask: Is it possible to sustain your need for drink by drinking the blood & ichor that splatters on you? I'm doing it now, but it might not last...

The weird thing is that blood counts as food instead of water.

It's better than nothing, but it can both fill you up and fail to satisfy hunger, so you should try actual food (including any animal part but the bones) first. Like the guy before said, it may also poison you or give you a syndrome, so don't go drinking the blood of anything too strange.

You can't butcher humanoid species like humans, dwarves, or even trolls. You can steal the clothes and sell them for a decent amount, but I'm pretty sure attacking anyone instantly sets the whole civilization against you, even if it's someone nowhere near other villagers. If there's an animal/monster attack on a village you may want to avoid everyone and rob the dead.

The most reliable way to get money and train at the same time is killing and butcher wild animals then selling their parts in a village. If you're really desperate for money without getting into danger by fighting you do the boring thing and keep picking up an item found in infinite numbers like snow or rocks and selling them for a very low price (1 of whatever currency per item).

However, if you're using version .31.13 or later else there aren't any stores, so it doesn't matter at all.

OK, things that went wrong when I first started?
I didn't put anything into the swimming skill and thus it was nearly impossible to learn enough that water wasn't instant death.
I wasted all my arrows on nothing.
My first time as a wrestler I attacked animals that were still conscious before getting armor and as a result got killed by both a chimpanzee which clawed my throat open and a horse that charged me and stomped me to death after I passed out.

Every non-vermin creature that lacks the "cannot_undead" tag in the raws can have skeletal or zombie version. Even insect, which Toady says are like animated exoskeletons.

I don't think civilized creatures can...

Yes they can.

Phoebus's graphics even have graphics for zombie versions of the relevant species, including all playable races.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: 31.14, Everything fixed?
« on: September 26, 2010, 12:32:05 pm »
It's less that adventurer mode is "broken" as much as adventure mode as we knew it was demolished to make way for a new one. So Adventure mode is pretty much in-between updates now.

Yeah, what are you talking about iceball? You don't pause in Adventure mode, it's just that unless your adventurer is stunned or unconscious nothing happens unless he/she makes a move.
