DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How to get adamantine?
« on: April 03, 2011, 09:26:24 pm »
Pour water on the lake to turn it to obsidian.

There should also be adamantine above the magma, which is pretty much safe from that potential hazard.

I shall be the jeweler! :D

Is the save compatible with .25?  Might be nice to take advantage of the speed increases if so.
Technically, I imagine it is, but like I said, yarn might make for impossible moods.

We... could turn artifacts off. This seems like a horrible, completely undwarvenly thing to do... but we could.

I'm definitely bumping it to .18, though.

724
Hey, it's my turn.

... I'm gonna have to go back and download .16 to play this, aren't I? Oh well, shouldn't take too long.

Actually, I think it's safe to update to .18. .19 added yarn though, which could well result in impossible moods, so I think we won't be updating past that.

Yeah, buzzsaw discs are ridiculously expensive for some reason. One *large, serrated silver disc* can buy you quite a lot from the caravans.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What weapon for the super soldiers?

Axe. Hammer. Spear.

Pick one, or make three-dwarf squads with one of each.

Candy is too light to make proper hammers, though, so make it out of something like silver if you go that route.

You can capture them by building cage traps. You can then tame them in the kennels.

There are NO negative side affect to this as stated here: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Trade
Not exactly. The merchants are aware that they took a huge loss, even if they don't quite understand why, so they won't bring as much the next year.

This is how the infamous artifact Planepacked was created, and may result in your artifact referring to itself.
Technically, artifacts can have images of themselves even if they didn't get Planepacked. ("planepack" is now a verb btw)

Is there anything that can be done at this point?
Not a damn thing.

If he's melancholy or stark raving mad, he'll run around being emo/crazy, and eventually drop dead because he stopped eating.
If he's berserk, you're gonna want to sic your military on him right the hell now, because he's going to start breaking things. And people.

Either way, he's not going to be doing anything useful for the rest of his life, so you can just write him off now.

Moody dwarves who want thread or cloth are very picky about the type. They'll want animal wool, plant fiber (pig tails or rope reeds), or spider silk, and won't accept the two other kinds.

1st Granite, 1052
Armok it's cold here. We need some sporing MAGMA.

4th Slate
Migrants have arrived. Still no magma. Ass-tons of semi-molten rock. I can feel the heat of the magma just behind it. Mocking me.

15th Slate
Execution tower's mostly done. Soon I'll be able to toss out those skeletal yeti and put their cages back in the traps where they belong.

23rd Slate
it didn't work we can't control them oh noooooooo

26th Slate
so, the guy who was told to toss the yeti, uh, died. i suck at this. :(

6th Felsite
For a while now, a skeleyeti has been chasing a kitten around topside. You may feel free to hum the appropriate music.

Naturally, sometimes the yeti catches up to the kitten. This, of course, results in a bit of a scuffle before the cat wriggles free and continues running. The weird part is...

I think the cat is winning.

Oh and I finally found some damn warm stone that isn't that half-melted impenetrable argahrahgr. I think we're getting close.

14th Felsite
... A cavern, huh? Not what I was looking for, at all... oh well, we can use that.

Also the elves attacked. There goes our Benny Hill kitten. :(

22nd Felsite
So the elves are running around executing skeleyetis and basically not actually inconveniencing us in any way, I've decided that the cavern contains basically nothing but a bunch of Blood Thorns, and... still no magma. (it's soooo cloooose!)

27th Felsite
adamantine

it's safe to just chip at the edges, right?

1st Malachite
In all we've managed to claim 36 stones of the precious blue metal. There's more, of course, but... well, Armok put this stuff here for a reason, and it wasn't so we could make the best axes ever. I'm not touching it unless I know its safe.

11th Malachite
Migrants have arrived... I was worried that this might clash with our little elf problem, but apparently they got bored and left.

18th Malachite
Annnnnd we've got a mood. This will be troublesome, at best...

26th Malachite
SPORING FINALLY

Magma!

(also moody guy wants metal, but we can GET THAT now! so i don't care!)

2nd Galena
what the circus is a rutherer and why is it KILLING US ALL

14th Galena
The rutherer fled the coop like the undead coward it is, and also moody guy made an earring. woo.

21st Galena
gahhhh
sporing

i was trying to

but then

SKELEYETIIIIIIIS

2nd Limestone
somehow we ran out of food OOOOOOPSSSS

24th Sandstone
Migrants! ... Still working on the food situation; we have some, but not anywhere near enough.

13th Timber
Merchants are here. Maybe they have some food?

15th Timber
... if our guys will PULL THE DAMN LEVER AND LET THEM IN THAT IS

22nd Timber
We traded a jillion mugs for all the wood, food, and booze they brought in. woooo
The liaison wanted to talk about trading and junk. I requested food, wood, booze, and stuff to make steel with. also birds
In return they requested such things as short swords and anvils.

3rd Moonstone
... and the guy got killed on his way out by a skeletal yeti. I warned him about yetis.

23rd Moonstone
Our doctor is taken by a mood.

25th Moonstone
And with absolutely no input from me, he's taken two logs and a roll of leather. Nice to have a mood go off without a hitch for once.

1st Opal
He made a great grate. Least it's useful, huh?

1st Granite, 1052
And that's the end of my term. I just got a three-dwarf axe squad all set up, and fyi we're about to run out of booze (but i have the dwarves working on making more)

Here's the save.

Well then.

Looks like your only recourse is to surround the shop with cage traps.

Glass counts as a gem for most purposes, so clear glass may be the base item.

You have some raw clear glass, right?

Thanks. Is it possible for a dwarf to demand a particular type of gem? I have a secretive mood that I seem to have everything for but who won't get anything.  :-\
For gems, he may want them to be cut first. And do make sure he has all the other stuff he needs, as he will insist on getting his materials in order.

My question: What is generally considered a "full" suit of armor? Metal is not an issue, but cloth and leather are limited.
