DF Modding / Re: Has anyone done [PRONE_TO_RAGE:<rate>] testing?
« on: March 30, 2011, 04:42:38 pm »
Yeah, I had the same issue attempting to make a hemospectrum for my Homestuck mod.

738
That's because nothing happened in the zeroth year, because none of us had embarked yet.

739
Yeah, but migrants.

I don't even know how the last guy died. I was just going along, getting my execution tower built, and BOOM!

Urist McDwarf has died of thirst.

And I know we're not short on booze. We've got like 200 servings of the stuff now.

So, leadership has been passed to me.

First things first. I have to take stock of the situation.

Point 1: There is literally no way into the fort.
Point 2: Nobody is doing anything.
Point 3: We are like a mile beneath the surface.

For point 1, the simplest solution is to build a bridge-controlled entrance. Easy enough.
But apparently I underestimated the meaning of "terrifying glacier". Our hunter/architect gets attacked by a skeletal yeti and it stands there strangling him for several days, not making much progress on the whole "killing him" front but tying them both up quite nicely.

Migrants arrive, and one of them brags about some bar fight she got into a while back, so I sent her to rescue the guy, which she does handily. Course, now we gotta give the guy medical attention. Least he's not dead, right?

After that, it pretty much goes off without a hitch.

For point 2, I assign standing orders for all idle dwarves to build furniture and mechanisms.

Point 3 is just a fact, nothing that needs to be "dealt with". In fact, my opinion is that we're not far down enough. Get on that, miner man.

12th Timber
We've hit semi-molten rock. Nothing Rīsen does can make it budge. He'll try going around it, then.

16th Timber
Caravan's here.

28th Timber
We're out of cages...

2nd Moonstone
The liaison wants to have a chat. I tell him we need all the wood and cages ever made, anywhere, for all time. In return, he asks for such things as blocks and drinks.

21st Moonstone
Who built the outer walls of wood? We need that stuff for beds! Replacing it with ice walls posthaste.

23rd Moonstone
Ah, spore. My execution tower collapsed onto a guy. Now I have to build it all over again... oh well at least this happened when it was only a few levels instead of all the way up to the sky like i planned

25th Moonstone
And another guy got killed a little less directly by this.

6th Opal
Guess that yeti did kill the guy. sporing useless piece of rotting flesh doctor

8th Opal
Walls are all replaced. 22 logs were reclaimed.

5th Obsidian
The three dead now have memorials.

1st Granite
Happy New Year! Another guy died!

(next year coming tomorrow, probably)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: No access to mechanisms

The dwarves can't get the mechanisms to the place. Make a path.

742
Oh, sure, whatever.

If I decide I don't want to play the full year-and-some then I can just pass what's left on to the next person anyway.

<.< well maybe not any but i have not yet found one that doesn't work that way (and i guess i don't do a LOT of modding so maybe i just don't know this crap?)

744
o.o

i am here if that is what you are asking

Pretty much it doesn't matter.

Any creature-level tag can be put in a caste and affect (effect? i can never get those right) only that caste.

Someone mentioned putting a DESCRIPTION tag on every caste. That'd get blood color across pretty consistently.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Need Anvil
« on: March 30, 2011, 11:24:30 am »
Barring mods and moods, you must import your first anvil. The only other way to get an anvil is to forge one at the blacksmith, which of course requires that you already have an anvil.

748
Well, the guy who made the thread hasn't logged on in three days. I say we mutiny and just let anyone who's free take the next turn. </half-joking>

749
.19 saves are still compatible with new versions, so feel free to upgrade if you want. In fact, all mods are preserved in a save, so you don't even need to install FD if you don't already have it.

Pretty sure underground burials are allowed, not sure about the lavish tombs that greedy nobles will inevitably demand.

The floor is obviously supported, but I think he's talking about rocks that get mined out, i.e. items as opposed to constructions/buildings.

Without loo'k'ing at the tile, I can't tell whether that's normal or glitchy.
