So if a stockpile has 1 Wheelbarrow assigned to it, only one dwarf at a time will deposit items in that stockpile? If it's 0, it's just like before but they'll move slower?

137
Oh I see, thank you.

So what do wheelbarrows do and how do I use them? Also, are these pots easy to make, can they store food/beer? It used to get really annoying using ALL the available wood for barrels...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How dangerous ought my danger room be?

I have trained squads full of Legendary Dwarves, using wooden spike (x10) training rooms.

Just make sure your dwarfs are FULLY covered by equipment. I always stripped my guys naked (as multiple clothing layers used to be bugged) and then equipped them with:

Helmet
Breastplate
Chainmail Shirt
Gauntlets
Greaves
HighBoots
Cloak/Cape

They will never die and stay perfectly healthy. For added bonus, train them with a weapon equipped first (till legendary in that weapon), then unequip the weapon but use a shield instead (till they are legendary shield users), then train them with no weapon/shield to level dodging (be sure to equip again once enemies are near by).

Using this method, you can get Legendary Weapon/Shield stats before you're dodge gets too high (if dodge is too high, your dwarf will dodge all the attacks and rarely block/parry).

Weight change? Slower Dwarves? Wheelbarrows? What does 25% drop in mining mean (is it slower)?

As for changing stone in to blocks, I've never done this before except for buildings that required a block... Can a block be used in place of all stone (like when building walls, workshops, crafting items from stone, etc)?

And no, there were no mounts at all at the stage I played, so flying mounts sound interesting... (No longer can I just use a drawbridge as a last line of defence).

I last played just before the update where bees/pots were added (Note: I have no idea what either do or how to use them). I'm an experienced player and have dealt with most types of fun, though from what I hear, there's now vampires and all sorts o_o

I'd also like to know if Adventure mode is easier now and if so, how do I go about playing without dying by the second day?

Edit: Also, I stopped playing as FPS death would always lower my fort to about 1/10 the normal speed and it would take forever to get anything done. Has this been resolved in anyway? Are there any methods to improve long term performance?

I also heard something about farms being easier to make, something like you don't have to flood indoor farms to get farmable soil?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Animals, pastures, taming and breeding?

I know plump helmets are still the way forward but I try to get the most out of all my dwarfs so I try and have a bit of everything going on. It's more fun to try and have meat, fish and plants all cooked into large meals. Even if the meat is badger, I think it'd be fun to tame a bunch of badgers and eat them every now and then.

How does breeding work? Do I need a male and a female in the same pasture?

Since I last played, it seems now that my animals get hungry and require a pasture. I noticed on the wiki it says some require a 5x5 pasture for that animal. Does that mean one each? If I had say, 4 cows, would they all need their own pasture?

This got me interested in to capturing/taming/breeding and then eating animals (like the stray badgers I keep seeing). How is this done? I'm a competent DF player, I've just never used pastures/taming/breeding before as it either didn't exist or wasn't working correctly.

I'm not sure, there might be a wave to turn them off fullstop. I only know this through the forums though; people have reported that once the population cap is hit you seem to get a few more waves.

Remove your caravan and unset your dining room (if you set one). Designate a meeting area with [ i ] in a room your dwarf should avoid. Said room should be lockable, floodable and drainable (in that order). Everytime you get a new wave of migrants they will head straight to this room (as they path to a meeting area). Lock the door and issue your dwarf to pull a lever, this level should be hooked to flood gates from a water source. This will drown them all. Drain the room in time for the next migrant wave.

If you turn off migrants, you should only get 2-3 waves tops.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: My first encounter with a Minotaur.

I'd say your marksdwarf should go into sniper school. Looks like it was a one-shot one-kill moment there.

Boom, hornshot?

I'm pretty sure there's a bug that makes zombie megabeasts evaporate when they're hit.  I had a chained puppy disappearify a zombie giantess, too.

Well that explains it I guess. I was worried about the Minotaur as I'd never seen one before. No corpse, no log, just 'deceased' on the unit list. I thought my marksdorf got extremely lucky.

Went differently to how I expected. I love the ? above the swordsdorf who was about to hit it.

Seriously though, what the hell happened?

147
I'm getting it like 10 times a second. The log is going crazy.

148
I'm getting this spamming my log and I've also noticed a huge drop in FPS and lots of freezing/stuttering. What the hell have they all misplaced so badly? Every dwarf seems to be complaining about this. It's really annoying as I'm missing important announcements (A miner died and I have no clue how now!).

I want to flatten the world, cover it in magma, except for the centre (my fortress) and some access paths to all sides. I will probably make them in to vertical draw bridges and wall off the inside of the magma (to create a castle I guess). I will probably want to place obsidian everywhere too (on the floor) as I have an abundance.

If I left enough space around the outside, would I still get caravans, ambushes, wildlife, etc?

150
I was thinking of leaving about a 5 tile width around the outside and walling off in a big square, with a gate in the north, south, east and west.

Would this mess with the wildlife, trade caravans, ambushes, sieges, etc? I'm thinking of a mega project and I plan to cover/replace most of the surface but I want everything to still work in the desired way.
