I should probably be taking college a bit more seriously than I am now. I managed to fail a class I should have dropped, but didn't because I'm an idiot, this first semester... No telling what that's going to do to me in the long run. At least now I've got a month to sit around on my ass and think about how I'm going to pay for this shit among other things..

tl;dr Svarte Troner is in over his head.

I just can't get into black metal for some reason. I love pretty much ever other variety of metal, but black just doesn't move me like music should. Anybody got something that will break me into black metal?

You're not giving much to work with but, I posted some Enslaved earlier, they're pretty accessible I think (at least their more recent releases, which are more progressive metal than black metal... but for the sake of posting Enslaved):
Clouds
Bounded by Allegiance
Return to Yggdrasil
Større enn Tid - Tyngre enn Natt (this song has one of the coolest intros ever)

Give this band, Windir, a shot too, they're one of my favs and fairly catchy as far a black metal goes. And their main guy died in a Norwegian snowstorm 10 years ago, how metal is that!?:
Ending
Arntor, ein Windir
Todeswalzer
Journey to the End

If you really want to get into black metal though, I'd advise Burzum/Darkthrone/Mayhem/Bathory/etc.
My Journey to the Stars (Cover of a Burzum song by Nokturnal Mortum, with better production quality n' stuff)
Bathory - Enter the Eternal Fire (This album's absolutely essential)

edit: Bathory not Bathroy...

Ilya Repin

Wow, I was thinking of posting that third picture, but I couldn't figure out who made it.

This is a fantastic thread for culturally interested yet lazy boor like me.  So much art I know now!

That painting has a pretty interesting backstory. It's the reply of the Zaporozhye Cossacks to the Sultan's request for them to surrender without resistance.

One of Repin's most famous paintings, of Tsar Ivan the Terrible and his son:

This song's really awesome - Enslaved ("Progressive" Black metal (basically the Opeth of Black metal))
Opeth is the Opeth of black metal ...

Some people say Opeth's early albums were black metal, but I really don't think they ever had much of a black metal sound. I mean, if we're talking about Orchid and Morningrise, then maybe there's a hint of melodic black metal influence, but it doesn't really sound like black metal to me.

Compare:
The Night and the Silent Water
A Blaze in the Northern Sky

Born in 94 here. But I cant even remember last new years let alone 2000. I don't even recall knowing about 9/11 at the time, although I've talked to people my age who have. The only thing I remember from the 90s is the cartoons...

Might want to mark this thread as NSFW in the thread title.  Thank you to those with the courtesy to hide such things with warning spoilers, but they still load with the page.

Done.
