DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: HELP me PLEASE! Vamp will not be punished.

Just to make sure: he wasn't already punished was he? It is weird to see murder/no sentence pending, and vampires have been known to survive hammerings.

Build a chest in every private room, and tons and tons of bins for your goods stockpile. That should take care of the clutter. Expect fort to be busy for a while with everyone cleaning up their crap

It can't be a cave-in, as someone already said, he would have choked on dust not smoke. Smoke doesn't just come from magma, it comes from burning clothing or other matter. Is it possible something jumped him, he fell down the stairs and into magma? There are usually no reports of people burning.

The other possibility is a fire snake or a fire imp got him, but even a dodge should have made a combat report (right?)

I think vampires should be sheriff/captain of the guard. Much more elegant that hammering to death. Just burrow them into the prison.

I've had no trouble finding zombies with the following settings:

small island
number of evil zones in small area: 3
in medium area:1
in large area:1

Makes huge swaths of land evil, and a few different lands to pick from

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: So the new update has a better magic system?
« on: February 16, 2012, 04:27:42 am »
It'd be fun to see cornered vampires using illusion magic to make everyone's more prone to tantruming/berserking, and dwarven priests praying at a hospital, and restoring the nerve tissue of crippled champions. Or Titans charming dwarves with their loving auras, and making servile thralls of your melee line.

At least now you can become a necromancer yourself :)

I think the "creeping soot" parts means they are made by a passing evil cloud, which have been reported to be hostile to all things--even other cloud zombies

Insanely, I can't get a fort started. Two embarks lost, second one was military embark. Undead capybara+undead storks, keep fighting, even after being dismembered.  The reclaim effort is not helped by the presence of the last embark. They seem to want brains.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Books of Eldrich lore--Exposed!
« on: February 15, 2012, 11:21:58 pm »
My first world in the new version has the following three artifacts by year 90--all but the first, the work of a Dwarven necromancer:
The first is a bauxite tablet entitled Mirstaltosid "The Velvety Armor":

A few decades later, the world's necromancer writes "The Velvety Armors Exposed":

The last book is about a random elf.

I have to find the exposed one, clearly it was meant to popularize and glamorize necromancy. That dwarf must getting tired of zombie friends.

Edit: in an interesting turn of events, the elf turns out to have been the druid of his civilizations, who got struck down by a three-eyed fiend, and...reanimated by the dwarven necromancer. And here I thought he was an elf-lover.

Burrows: more reason to isolate your legendaries in nice housing proximate to a workshop, and let the peasant barrow serve the vampiric overlord.

legends mode offer any clues?

It is not a bug, the workshop wasn't there on reclaim because it was never built. It couldn't be build for a wide variety of reasons:either a component you ordered them to use was forbidden, or there was crap blocking the way (e.g. a dead rat in the building site, or a rock designated to be used somewhere else)
