I didn't know eggs could hatch.  *feverishly checks gender of pet saltwater crocs*

Forgotten beast vs. Dwarven child

Child won. Granted he was helped by a friendly blind cave ogre and the F.B. was made out of steam.  But still, that kids going to be somebody.

That usually means the mother died while carrying it, and it dehydrated while crawling around/waiting to grow to be a child

Aww man, already?  Time makes no sense online, i feel like I just discovered this project and it's done :(.  Start an adventure mode and explore the forsaken orc lands exposed by the bridge?

Do berserk dwarves starve? I had the baron's heir trapped in the noble bedroom for two seasons with no consequences.

Though I guess I kept tossing him pets I thought he'd like.  He generally tore them into pieces but I don't think he ate them.

No I mean I have two caged giant cave spiders, I put one in a little fortification bunker in a strategic but not pathway location, put an armor stand in front, and some cage traps in a semi-circle 2 spaces away. then I pastured a goose near the armor stand.

Then I pulled a lever, the spider shot a bunch of webs, which I forbade. Then dwarves started freaking out and running into cage traps, so I got worried we were going to run out of active cages to recapture the spider, unlocked the spider's door and she landed in her own personal trap.

And thus I was left with
a. the same (thankfully uninjured) spider,
b. several annoyingly caged dwarves,
c. No F.B. trap! :(

I heard tame spiders don't shoot webs unless attacked, but I'd probably use it as a frontliner, i just worry the webs would get my people too.

Also--flesh fixation?  As in once they're killers they'll always be hostile even if tame?

I have two now, so far both untamed, both female, one significantly larger and stronger than the other. My first experiment with having them web cage traps for F.B. capture went badly (as in i had to get 5 dwarves and a goose out of cages).  I understand the design principle for containment, and pastures make it rather easy to get the spiders to shoot, but how the hell do you keep your dwarves from being captured? Should I tame one (maybe the named one, who killed many dwarves before we got her?)?

I keep just the one, for the conversation, as the raws suggest, also I just gave pretty much everything that dwells below the [pet] tag

He just blinks a thirsty blue arrow--tried penning him in a booze stockpile, a room with a ramp to some water, a room perpetually running with water.  So far nothing.  Am I facing one more dead gorlak (armok forbid) or is there options I could try?

First, goblins do not die of old age, it is one of the major signs of common ancestry between goblins and elves ;)

Second d-b-d, d-b-c a constructed cage with a goblin to strip it of its gear (make sure to t the cage and cancel the dump order so you don't lose it too).  Then wire a lever to it, or if it is anything but a thief, pit it somewhere where your military can practice on it, war animals can eat it etc.

Don't try to sell it though, in my experience it just breaks loose and kills people.

I can confirm this issue, by random chance three of my artifacts are perfect gemstones and not one has left the jeweler

and now a dwarf lets loose a laugh, fell and terrible. one dead glassmaker later I find myself with:
"Skullsletter" a dwarf bone figurine of dwarves.

On the item is a masterfully designed image of dwarves in dwarf bone by Sazir Mondulthuob. The dwarves are laboring. The artwork relates to the foundation of Wrungknives by the Spear of Onslaught of the Treaty of Vales in the early spring of 51.  It is encircled with bands of dwarf bone.

I decided to break the routine of pull lever-pepper siege with bolts--pull lever--send out melee to mop up--clean. I left the gate open.

I miscounted with my troop placement, the marksdwarves showed up too late and missed the squads of axe and hammer goblins they were supposed to pin.  Instead the deep and surface melee squads met the ogres head on, while bowgoblins swordgoblins and more ogres chased a child and a legendary bone carver, falling on the latter in a mob of 20, so that I could only tell his state by the flurry of severed limbs that flew out of the crowd.

The front line was the old ogre gretto, now the head melee dwarf's home.  it was her child that died. The husband falls in battle in minutes, pierced by arrows.  Her other child, the older sister went mad and wanders the halls raving. The captain is still ecstatic, she is too far gone in the slaughter to care for her lost children and slain husband. She, "The Rumored Land of Doors", which i assume is a goblin euphemism for the afterlife, slays an ogress and carves up a goblin.

The marksdwarves rally and the elite squad, although caught mid way to the roof of the old ogre cabin, and shooting from deep melee, do terrible damage to the goblins.  Their archers flee, their axemen beeline and are taken one by one.  Wrungknives has won the day. There are seven dead militiary, two civilians.

However years of partying in tiny clay bars and brothels has taken a toll on my angry, for the most part bedless masses.  Lots of red arrows.

And the popular bookkeeper has just died to a tribe of troglodytes, seconds before the militia tore them apart. Deep wood expedition has now taken two lives.

Tantrum spiral brewing. Population now 146.

*Edit Giant Cave Spider Attack, Castletwists has killed five, and Im hoping she gets caught in a cage trap soon.

I've got two, a beloved, super-friendly armless gimp (even before she lost her arms, she was a cheese maker, now she is a...super cheesemaker?) for a mayor and my baron.

He I think murdered his wife--he just showed up as a migrant beekeeper with a son, but neither wife, nor (for the son) mother.

Now he lives in a lavishly decorates burrow that serves as a party room for the other dwarves.  Since for the most part my fort is above ground and made of clay, the burrow is deep underground, and I imagine everyone who hangs there to be a degenerate courtier.

I have no justice system (impractical when your chief medical dwarf is doomed to a beating for murder, among other things).
