Keep your hives away from everything else and do the same for your nest boxes. Otherwise, your announcements window will be filled with how someone bit stung by a bee or how turkey started a fight with a dog.

I keep a 5x10 area for egg production as that allows me to have 3 rows of 10 nest boxes with free tile rows between them. Of course you can make multiple smaller rooms for them and just make more as your egg production grows. Also, using the autonestbox function of DFHack is a blessing - just remember it requires at least one normal pasture before it can function.

It's not a bug, just unlikely. The war will happen sooner or later and Ulfarr said, you can kickstart it yourself by sending your troops to pillage goblin settlements.

Can't barrels hold multiple stacks of prepared meals? In other words, I can fit more meals in my stockpile at the dining hall if I use barrels. If I'm wrong, that'll change my whole dining area layout :o

Yeah, the big problem with both massive water and magma projects is that if you retire the fort and then come back later to continue it, all hell will break loose and you'll have water and/or magma everywhere regardless of how well it was contained before.

As said, Ocean biome is a special thing and nothing grows there. You have to edit the RAW files to make it so that plants can grow there if you want to live completely in the ocean. Waves can wash items away and dwarves have a tendency to fall into the ocean if you build things above it. I've tried to make lighthouse-forts multiple times.

Got to witness an epic tantrum spiral involving regular dwarves, necromancer dwarves (thanks immigration!), pets, war dogs, war grizzlies, intelligent undead dwarves (again, thanks immigration!), and hostile undead that were raised by the aforementioned necromancer dwarves as the brawl got out of hand. Dining hall, dormitory and egg hatchery are covered in blood. I think I lost over thirty citizens and at least two dogs in the wild melee, plus my hospital is full of wounded - so many that I ran out of cloth for bandages. I don't think this fort can recover because at least six babies and/or children were killed too, which probably means that their parents will go berserk soon too.

Oh well, the lighthouse wasn't anywhere close to being finished so not a big loss.

Yes, the ocean is freezing and thawing really weirdly. Maybe that is causing the sea bed to collapse into the caverns? And if that's the case, then there's no salvaging this fort, I guess. Such a pity, it was going so well.

I'm not using any mods. I disabled tilesets and the crash/hang-up still keeps happening. I don't know what causes it exactly because there are no announcements or anything. There's an elven caravan in the trade depot that I successfully traded with. There's nothing special going on in-game but the game gets stuck and eventually I have to use Task Manager to close DF. I haven't done any raiding, there have been no vampire/werebeast attacks, no sieges, no necromancers.

I've attached my save game in case someone could take a look and find out what's going wrong: (warning it's 97 MB)

Hey folks!

Using PerfectWorld, are there any guides or do you guys have any tips to ensure that I get the sort of world that I want because I'd like to create multiple sites eventually, not just one. So, I want the following:

1. Surface volcano
2. Waterfall - the bigger the better both width and height wise
3. A bay or channel that is narrow enough that I can build a bridge fort to span in via 2x8 embark zone
4. Crossroads

Again, these do not need to be the same site, I'm planning to build multiple forts.

Additionally, I'd love to get as many different animals from elves and humans as possible, so the world would need to be somewhat large to accommodate as many biomes as possible. Plus lot of minerals too.

Wait, do you mean that i don't need to manually designate a bedroom for each dwarf? I know they sleep in a random bed if they don't have a bedroom, or in dormitory, but is it possible for them to claim a bedroom by themselves at some point? Would be nice to avoid having to assign 100+ bedrooms.

Wiki says it is a thing but I haven't tried it yet.

I wonder if part of the problem comes from my towers being very small - the tower in the GIF seems to be quite massive.
