Yeah I'd say if atlus is making a profit period they're probably safe. It seems like companies in the black in general are fairly rare. Although the distinct amount of VERY japanese games is a definite point, that sort of thing is becoming more okay over here too (although I definitely wouldn't say it's pierced the mainstream, but then again most games aside from FPSes haven't really done that either).

EA buying it would be... ridiculous. I can't imagine EA publishing the fifth entry in a JRPG series that has predominantly featured (admittantly well recieved and handled) dating sim elements from the third entry onwards. And at this point that's about what they're known for besides dark souls. And maybe mainline SMT.

Whoever takes it over would probably do so on the strength of their 'distinct amount of VERY Japanese games' and not view that as a detriment. It's what people expect/want from the brand.

Which one is that? My guess would be Persona, but... Oddly enough, I seem to know more of Atlus' sidelines than their main items. =P

Yeah, sorry. I was just going down the list of potentially recognizable titles that I could think of that had Atlus' hand in it, however remote.

If Atlus is actually black ink on the balance ledger, they will survive in some form even if their parent company falls apart; they are an asset to be sold at auction to recover money.
They are doing damn well in the 3DS section so i would expect them to be swimming in black.

I wouldn't call it 'swimming'... not sure how much production cost in relative terms, but Animal Crossing: New Leaf has sold about 3.9m copies. EO *combined* (excluding the rerelease of the first one, which launched in Japan today) has sold just a little over 1m. A quick glance doesn't show much in terms of numbers on their other 3DS releases.

Should I feel bad for not even HEARING any of the names mentioned in this thread?

Shin Megami Tensei
Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre
Trauma Center
Catherine
Demon's Souls (predecessor to Dark Souls)
3D Dot Heroes

I'm going to make a post on a forum online about how awesome Anvilfolk and the rest of the B12 community is. (For free!) :D

Hmm. My underpowered work computer runs it fine, just... slowly. And my overpowered home computer makes it crash on load. ;_;

...I like how the (expanded) manual is a stretch goal. I've always kind of assumed that manuals were a given...

Awww, I've evolved some kind of squirmy hump-backed snakes that have watermelon heads, a single beady eye and an oddly smug look on their faces. It's... kind of cute, in a disturbing fashion.

Wasn't that in a bundle before?

HIB6. The weekly includes the DLC though.

Not my genre of choice, but love the premise!

I can't place it, but it reminds me of an adventure game I came across a while back where it's somebody telling a story like that but, based on your actions, other people would interject and the world would shift around you. It's a quirky mechanic that I'd love to see more of.

I've backed 1 computer game, 1 tabletop RPG and 1 board game.

The computer game came through, with periodic updates, with a rather mediocre end result. I believe most people supported this one for the cross-game bonuses, as I did. So... no complaints here, as I got what I was promised, and expected.

The tabletop RPG moved remarkably quickly in my opinion and released a beta version of the manual about three weeks after the completion of funding. Expectations actually surpassed here, as I was expecting at least 2-3 months for any significant developments, plus minor delays.

The board game has been riddled with delay after delay, but that's to be expected when coordinating printing of cards, production of physical tokens, etc. as opposed to digital distribution. We've been kept informed of delays and they've released digital versions of the physical assets for anybody inclined to assemble the game themselves. The extra materials (including customized boards for hundreds of backers) probably added a good chunk of time above the original estimate. No complaints here, but I admit I was hoping to get it in my hands by now.

I was almost scammed on indiegogo though for the whole Chloe Sagal...

Kind of curious what went on with this-- is there a good article anybody could point me at? The ones I pulled up all seemed very fragmented and assumed you knew of the situation already.

I'm enjoying Organ Trail. It does have a distinct Oregon Trail feel to it. On Normal, the going's pretty easy, but some of the events are tough-- there's one where you can instantly lose a person if you fail to pass it. (Specifically, I was held hostage and missed...) You will also end up with way too much food, and way not enough fuel. ><

Wakfu and Dofus are, largely, the same game. I rather enjoyed Dofus, up until you're done with the starting zone and find that you have to subscribe to do anything else. (If they just made it pay+cosmetic micropay I'd've picked it up in an instant...)

Elsword is another sidescroller MMORPG that may fit your requirements, though I haven't prodded it myself yet.
