Other Games / Re: MMOs?

I'm with Folly on this one. The problem isn't hotbars, the problem is devs being lazy and/or boring.

Take Blade&Soul for a positive example. Hotbar based combat, but lots of skills are context sensitive and/or part of attack chains and (almost) everything enemies throw at you can be dodged or blocked. And you get more then a few skills to dodge or block with.
If you're doing it right you can actually solo content that would be hard for a party doing it the "classic" tank&spank way.

Sadly most MMORPG devs don't do it that way, they go for the most unimaginative and boring implementation of hotbars instead. Or they add abilities and systems that would make combat interesting in theory, but also make the game so piss-easy you never need to do any of it, so it might as well not exist.

Borrow some british fishing boats.
I think the russian navy has never won a battle against british fishing boats. Their presence might scare the russians into going away.

Well, the GIFT (Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory) has been around for almost 15 years, and I don't think it will become nonrelevant anytime soon.
People will always be people. And people usually suck.

next time I will probably get electrocuted while typing on my keyboard or something.

Reminds me of my childhood.

Back in the days of the mighty Playstation 2 we had a controller with a defective rumble pack. Every time it vibrated the shoulder buttons would zap the player, which was not only annoying but became somewhat painfull after a while.
On the plus side, we became gods in Bloody Roar 3 out of necessity.

Learning to never get hit was obviously the better solution, instead of just stopping to play with the defective controller.

Ah, I remember this fondly. I played around with it some years ago, maybe back in 2014 or 2015.
Was actually looking for updates earlier this year and saw that the free version was gone, glad to see that the Steam release is available now and I'm going to get it as soon as I'm off work today.

I used to, but for some months now I get three or so actually related videos in the sidebar (even that many would be lucky) and the whole rest of them is some completely unrelated bull.

Not even hyperbole.
A few hours ago I was watching a Monster Hunter World videos and out of the 10 or so videos that are shown in the sidebar exactly one was another MH video, and not even from the same uploader.
The rest weren't even about video games.

Youtube recommendations are FUBAR and worthless.

I can't stop thinking that 'fast denuclearisation' involves sending everything nuclear down south, on the top of rockets...

Well, technically, if you launch all your nukes at somebody else you no longer have any, so goal accomplished.

Chalk up one victory for peace.

Combining words like that is more a trait of the German language than of English though.

But since we already have taken schadenfreude and gesundheit from German, google tells me vindicated is bestätigt and despair is verzweiflung, so maybe "bestätigtverzweiflung"? Don't actually speak German so probably broke all of the grammar rules there though.

Plus it's too long and will not be as easily remembered by english speakers, whilst Gesundheit and Schadenfreude seem to have more staying power.

The correct translation of vindicated in this context would be "gerechtfertigt", so gerechtfertigte Verzweiflung. No way to combine those two, though. Sorry.
The e needs to be added to gerechtfertigt because Verzweiflung ("despair") is female, because what else would it be.

Soulbringer?
Doesn't fit with the mixed 2D and 3D, but if I remember correctly you'd aquire a magical fortress/hideout halfway into the game that is accessed by runestones or something like that.
Also a fairly obscure but generally well liked game. (though the UI is horrible, but for a year 2000 game, that is kinda to be expected)

Other Games / Re: How did you last *own*?
« on: August 11, 2018, 05:53:08 pm »
Not exactly a traditional "own", but I think it fits. Probably as an own for the playerbase itself or something.

We won a really close match on Numbani as attackers (we were in overtime, actually), quickplay matchmaker has derped again and we're playing as 6 randoms against a 5-man premade + random.
In the victory screen one of my teammates, who was the only one refusing to use the voice chat and who was out of position for pretty much 90% of the match, complained with something to the effect of "wow, we won despite out horrible healer" (just not as friendly), at which point some of my teammates and the entire enemy premade tore into him.

I ended up getting the healer card with 15k heals / healed 46% of incoming damage and 10 upvotes (only my 3rd legendary card in 2 years of playing, and my 2nd as Mercy) and 8 or so commends.

It was a very weird feeling.

I awoke from a wretched nightmare.

What drugs is this game on?!

A lot of them.
I remember being a pig in some earlier beta, and one of my friends was a spider.
Complete with unique skills and builds.

There is also cows, ravens (I think? If I don't remeber it wrong) and rabbits.

Been thinking of installing it again ever since it launched on steam, maybe I'll do it one day. It is pretty awesome despite the barebones graphics and grindy gameplay.

The mention of suppprt made me think of EVE, huh.

Presumably, if you contacted EVE support because you blew up while afk the only resonse you'd get would be the sound of hysterical laughter.

Sadly not. At least not in a way that would help a newbie.

While you can save parts (called assembly by the designer) and later copy them into designs it is still a non-trivial amount of work to get it right. I use that for standardized chairs, bridge consoles and turrets on my designs, which really does cut down on the overall work. But you still have to make them by hand at least once (I think pretty much no one uploads assemblies and there are no presets delivered with the game itself) and moving them into position is still a fiddly work that takes a few minutes on each part.

I guess in theory you could use that to make copy&paste ready blueprints of entire rooms or hull sections, but I don't think I've seen anybody do that yet.

I'm still torn when it comes to the new designer, even after useing it for a year.

On one hand I still remember how proud I was when I uploaded and built my first Songbird, watching it lift of the ground, unfold its wings and fly away. How many other games let you design your very own swing wing spacecraft?
On the other hand I also still remember the hours upon hours it took until I understood the new editor enough to design it, especially compared to the old one in which I built my first okay looking ship after 30 minutes of trying. Doing anything with the new designer is just so much work.
