DF General Discussion / Re: Who here turns the music off?

I turn it off and listen to this instead.

will a prone marksman try to throw themself off the wall still?

Will magma inevitably find a way to flood your dinining hall?

Actually, I have no idea, but seeing the considerable lengths marksdwarves go to avoid not getting killed in nearly all other situations... I don't see how being prone or having no legs will keep them in safety very long. They can still attempt to climb and then simply fall after all.

Shores of Hazeron.

A buggy, graphically outdated MMO space-sim citybuilder...thing.
It has a horrible user interface, gameplay is slow and takes forever in the beginning, it is a mess of unfinished features, a quarter of the playerbase is a bag of dicks, another quarter is a bunch of carebears in a PvP centric game and the rest is too inexperienced to have any opinion yet.
Still, I've been playing for 3 years now, and I don't think I'll quit anytime soon.

Well... people have finished Nethack playing blind, so of course Dwarf Fortress players would have to top it by playing blind and without user interface.

Badgers, preferably of the giant kind.
I just find the idea of throwing someone into a moat filled with anger, claws, fur, anger, hate and blood (also anger) way too hilarious.

Keep throwing corpses at them until one gets lucky?
That tactic always seems to work against my dwarves when the undead do it.

This whole knowledge/philosophy thing fills me with so much anticipation, just because of its potential for lulz.

We have seen gods unleash hordes of clowns onto the world after they have contemplated the meaning of fish.
I am looking forward to the day we see a dwarf philosopher turn into a nihilistic necromancer as a result of the last 3 generations of his people contemplating the inevitability of plump helmets.

One dwarf with iron or steel as preference as proficient weaponsmith, also some skills as grower
One dwarf with iron or steel as preference as proficient armorer, also some skills as grower
One dwarf with high social stats as novice appraiser and some skills in medicine related jobs (social dwarf is replaced by a soldier in hostile areas)
One dwarf with proficient herbalist and a point in woodcutter
3 remaining dwarfs as proficient miners, one is also a novice mechanic, one is a novice carpenter, one is a novice mason

Nevermind, I found the thread. My memory is getting dodgy it seems.

He set the rope one fire to keep the well clean of contaminants, but ended up with melted dwarves.  I just remember it was a well with magma involved. My bad.

Ah, Sphalerite. One of the most amazing people ever created by dwarfkind. Just look at the threads he created.
Wish he was still around, his science was the best.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Accidental Fortress designs?
« on: January 27, 2015, 10:00:53 pm »
I accidently build a fortress full of goblins once.
But then it accidently turned aquatic and everything was okay again.

Another time I accidently turned my large natural stone tower hanging from the ceiling of a cavern into one standing on the bottom of the cavern.
It had a rather unhealty effect on the people inside it during this transformation.

I never ran SB mods, but I remember acid rain, too.
Not sure if it could form pool if the rain was strong enough though.

I usually abandon and restart 4 or 5 years into the fort. Usually because I have a new idea to try and it keeps distracting me from my current fort, which in turn was an idea that distracted me from my previous fort itself.

Goes something like that:
"Hey, lets try to literally channel out an aboveground fort out of a mountain."
few years in
"Now that I think about it, I didn't have a evil glacier embark in quite a while..."
re-genning worlds to get one with an evil polar area.
"Now that this seems to be somewhat running... haven't built a constructed aboveground tower fort in quite a while."
yet a few years into the fort
"Reverse towers would be awesome too, same design as this tower but digging it into the ground instead of skywards..."
some time later
"Hmmm. I could gen a world with huge caverns and build a cavern city."
And so on, and so on.

I remember that original thread and your other raven "incidents", and now I feel bad for thinking you were insane for having a feud with them.

Late EDIT:
After long thinking I've also decided to sig this gem:
Demons are preferable to ravens.

If that is okay with you, of course.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Most Memorable Moods

I once had a secretive armorsmith mood create a steel breatplate. About 5 frames after I closed the announcement popup he got stabbed in the lungs by a kobold thief.
I couldn'd decide if I should laugh about that delicious irony or angrily shout at my screen.

I used to carry several metal spikes for throwing and stabbing, but in the current version I prefer to club things with metal scepters as befitting my position as lord/lady.
