I've decided to start the election on Monday 17th, since we have four timelines already (Iced, Kzel, Randy Gnoman and me) and nobody seems to be currently playing (except for Iced).

Iced, you should have finished your year now, why not give us an update?

Moron's Log, Limestone

We have immediately started working on my monument to dwarven history. The others have no idea what it is going to be and I don't think they really like to help, but they have nothing else to do.

We built the whole month long. Urvad was interrupted once by a cougar skeleton, but nothing else happened this month.

Moron's Log, Sandstone

A few elephant skeletons decided to hang around for a bit, scaring the shit out of everyone who dared to continue on my grand project.

I'm beginning to think I did something wrong. I'll have the whole thing torn down and rebuilt.

Increasingly many dwarves have decided to just stop deconstruction and have a break. I don't like this. Are they trying to sneak off on the job?

Moron's Log, Timber

Some stray dwarves have arrived and request shelter. There are no skeletons in sight, so I think we can let them in. We are now 18 people.

Shortly afterwards a caravan arrived. I thought that it was the rest of the construction caravan, but it only wanted to trade with us. But we had nothing to trade for, so I sent a new weaponsmith to make some nice golden goblets.

Moron's Log, Moonstone

Some dwarf told me that he was a lee-a-song or so and that I could order stuff from the mountainhome. I immediately ordered the whole menu.

We brought heaps of gold goblets to the depot. The traders were waiting for a trader, but we had nobody. They said that anyone could trade with them, so I volunteered. I wanted all the food and drinks on the wagon and gave him all our goblets back. When the traders left, they were grinning so hard that their moustaches were overlapping their sideburns.

We were busy deconstructing the scaffolding when I managed to get stuck up there. I don't know how, I was just busy removing a floor, when I noticed that I could not go back. I told the others to get me down, but they said they were busy moving dead lizards all over the place. I was tired, so I went to sleep. It was really cold up there!

When I could come down at last, the others were really fed up with me and I had to remove the rest of the scaffolding alone.

Moron's Log, Opal

When I was finally finished with the scaffolding, I looked at my monument (it was a huge statue of me) and thought that there was something seriously wrong with it, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

I came down and walked straight into some really smelly purple stuff. The meat had been in the trade depot for far too long, so they were throwing everything away.

Moron's Log, Obsidian

I was wandering around the halls when I saw a passage that I never saw before. I went through and saw a really grand fortress under excavation with lovely wide hallways and grand stairwells.

As I walked through the unfinished halls in wonder, little Unib walked by. I showed him the finger of ancient lore. Unib showed me one too. I think we will get on really well.
As I looked back to Unib again, he had suddenly gotten really big. I wonder what happened...

Also, while I was gone deconstructing, they had made the walls of our dining room all shiny and smooth. This looks really nice, I wonder who did this. Later some skeletal elephants came visiting, but they couldn't get over our wall.

Stukos came and told me that we were here one whole year already. I came to the conclusion that the year must have been really short.

Achievements this year:

Basic industry with farms and booze
Magma forges and furnaces directly over the magma sea
Sand caved-in to directly next to the furnaces
Nice layout for a grand aboveground megafort
Big moronic dwarfy statue of the Bloody Moron (sorry for the lack of screenshots, but I don't have 3D viewers)
18 dwarves, 1 casualty (Mafol)

Vote for me!

Moron's Log, Hematite

The curiosity got hold of me. I wanted to know how many z-levels there were. Mafol was very reluctant, but then she turned around ("May yer brain be eaten by the horrors of the deeps") and started digging.

She dug down, and down, and down. And down, and down. After two days, she called me down and showed me the stone. It had gotten really warm. She explained to me with lots of words that she refused to dig deeper. I lay on the ground and pleaded with all my might. She gave me her pick and took a step back, ready to run. I took it, struck the earth (I almost hit my foot) and a piece of rock gave way directly under Mafol's feet. She looked at me like some kind of wingless bird trying, in midair, to convince a very stupid moron that he had just done something very stupid indeed. Then she fell into some really hot gooey orange liquid, twisting and screaming as her clothes caught fire. Her last words were "Praise yooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu....". Then she was swallowed by the orange stuff. I dropped her pick down next to her and ran upstairs crying helplessly.

I told the others what happened, and they were really angry at me. They told me I should get lost and die somewhere. I didn't, that would be stupid. But I told Stukos the stoneworker to seal off the gooey liquid. She agreed, although she was very scared, and went down to have a look at the gooey stuff. She came back really excited with the message that this was magma, the legendary molten rock of ancient lore. I told her that stone couldn't melt, then I asked her what the word "lore" means. She showed me a finger. I saw nothing wrong with it.

A few days later, Urvad came in from her mud place. She showed me a muddy mushroom, one of the icky purple ones, and seemed very proud about it. I told her that it wasn't cleaner now. She told me it was a new one. She dragged me to the farm, squeezed the mushroom, and stuck some new red blobs into the mud. Then she wiped the mushroom clean on her warty green dress and I watched in horror as she took a huge bite out of it. She offered a bite, but I was busy running away and hiding.

Fath was busy training in the depths of the mountain. She was determined to follow in Mafol's footsteps, all but the last few. When she came back, she was caked in mud. No less than three times had she discovered an expansive cavern deep underground. She was scared (seeing as what had happened to Mafol), and immediately sealed the break-throughs again. She recruited Rovod the fish cleaner, who was happy to do something at last, until he noticed that Fath had the only pick.

In the meantime, some people from the caravan arrived. They were bedraggled and they were missing something I didn't see at once, but eventually I realized that they had no wagons. They told me that they had been waylaid by goblins and that they had to give them the wagons for their lives. I was very disappointed about the lack of prickle berries, but I helped them over the wall and they helped themselves to a helping of the last booze in the fort. Suddenly a child cried out. Two very boney monkeys were charging at it. Avuz Crowgild the potash maker, normally a fearful person, took the opportunity to show the child that these bones were very easily separated. She immediately decided to dedicate her life to the military.

A mule foal was left outside and is now spending its time braying its lungs out. I told it to be quiet, but it didn't hear me. I told it to grow up. It did so immediately. I told Unib the child to grow up. He looked at me with large eyes and told me his mom had told him not to talk with me.

Moron's Log, Malachite

I ordered the fortification to be enlarged. There were no zombie things visible, so I ordered everyone to help with the new wall. Urvad and Tekkud chopped some wood while we were at it. We let the mule in too.

A stray blacksmith (Onol by name) told us a story about magma, the legendary molten rock of ancient lore. I told her that we have some here. She wanted to see it. I took her to the warm wall. She was amazed, but then she told me that she could use this. She had once been apprentice at the Wet Wire's best forge (so she said). She had sneaked into her master's place and found reports of magma and how to use it for forges and furnaces. She was pretty sure that she could still remember how to do this. I ordered that a place be dug out directly over the magma.

Today I tasted one of these icky purple mushrooms. They tasted really good!

Fath and Rovod were now alternating in doing the digging and having a drink. They are clearly well-organized.

Moron's Log, Galena

We (say, Onol) have built a smelter and a forge.

First Onol made another pick. I carried it to the place we all drop our stuff. Fath grabbed it, but Rovod had just finished mining, so we told her to mine somewhere else. Urvad took some mushrooms and a barrel into a still and came out with a barrel of wine! I asked her to show me the trick but she showed me a finger, the same one as Stukos.

Fath and Stukos have dug a long vertical tunnel from the sand under the surface to the forges. I wonder what they are up to.

Tekkud was coming out of the butcher's shop with a big hunk of meat. I wonder where the mule went.

Suddenly there was a loud crash. Stukos said that this was a controlled cave-in to get sand to the forges, but I don't know why you need sand in the forges. Stukos said that you need sand to make glass, but I don't think you need sand for glass and I don't know what glass is anyway.

I have a feeling that the others aren't taking me seriously. I know! I will do something really great that will show everybody that I am able to do something really great! Fath told me that autumn has come. How did she notice, she was digging all the time!

ottottott, are you using one of my embarks?

Also,
post a picture ...?

Many pictures. This thread has a serious lack of screenshots. ;D

All my dwarfes died b/c of skelephants. Before the end of the first month. Can I still participate ?

You have to play a year. If you reclaim, it's already Spr 101 and you can't play any longer.
Or you can just restart, therefore gaining valuable fortress-shaping time.

3606
I want as many and as dwarfy timelines as possible.

The real challenge is, as I just noticed, to survive the election. Gonna write this down in the first post.
Voting will be too thin between them if there is more than about 4 or 5. still it's your game and I'm going to shut up now......

Hmm. It could really be a little stupid if you have like 10 timelines and nobody can keep track of them. But I also wanted to remove the endless waiting time in normal succession games until your turn turns up... I'll come up with something. Perhaps I'll just prepone the poll.

About misspelling your name before, sorry but all I can think of when I see it is
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You got it.

If not then would anyone volunteer to test it?
How about !!crundle!!'s Expendable Urist?

3609
I'm also curious about time of day, and time zone?

Although I should have it then, I tend to find myself messing with things up until the last minute.

Let's say 18:00 CET? But a few minutes more or less won't matter unless you plan on playing until Monday :)

To recalculate, you posted at 18:26:43 CET.

3610
Double post yes, but MagmaMcFry, perhaps only let 4~ at most play each year, it makes it a lot easier to vote and keep track off.

Votes should also be in a specific colour, Blue Perhaps?

I will use a poll for voting. It's so much easier and I think we will be able to have many more timelines (and many more votes) with this system.

What is the deadline specifically?

Fri Jan 21 for all timelines, see first post. If you say you need the extra time and I'm feeling nice, I will let you play until the end of the poll (Jan 24), but not longer.

Magma, you can just cut the power to the pumps. I hope that they manage to pump enough to create a wall instead of a floor. Because it should cool instantly but I'm not sure if the pumps can send 2 layers of liquid through during 1 frame.

Pumps send all magma/water at the source to the exit every single frame. I'm more worried that the cave-in generator will make multiple blocks of obsidian on the same tile, which will stack up and can really be a pain and a danger (single-tile cave-ins!) to remove.

Moron's log, Granite:
We've arrived at the future site of Racedhandles, at the start of the new year. Fath the fisherdwarf wouldn't stop complaining about the fact that they should have long been there and the river was disgusting and this wasn't the right place at all (she told me that it was my fault, but I told her the tree back there said we should go this way, it would be a shortcut). The girls were also worrying about the rest of the caravan, but I told them that the others probably didn't know about the shortcut. They said that they gave me a new custom profession, but I don't know what a custom profession is.

I told the girls to wait, but they started digging a small cave into the lovely mountainside. I told them that the chief architect would be very angry, but they said 'Go talk to a tree'. I asked the tree about this misbehavior and what I should do about it, but the tree just kinda growled at me. Spooooky.

Anyways, the scenery is nice. Lotsa hoary marmots and mountain goats. And the trees have lovely crooked twigs and the tigers have very white bones.

Spoiler: Large Image (click to show/hide)

When I showed them the tiger, they immediately started building a wall around the wagon. I told them not to, but they wouldn't listen and Stukos the mason chucked a cat at me. How will the rest of the caravan find us now?

I'm gonna go around and count stones. One, two, three, five...

Moron's log, Slate:
I told the girls to take down the wagon because it was in the way (well, not really). They were horrified by the idea, but they were the ones that had built a wall around it, weren't they?

I was finished counting stones and wanted to count z-levels now. I asked Mafol the miner (she was currently teaching Fath to mine, because Fath said she couldn't fish anymore) to dig down and count them, but Mafol said that Queen Zuglar had strictly forbidden that anyone dig more than thirty levels down, 'lest we shall all perish in the unseen horrors of the deeps'. I told Mafol that there was only more stone down there, and nothing to be afraid about, and Mafol told me that I hadn't listened in the geology, mineralogy, erosion and religion classes. I told her that I always skipped them because they were boring, and she said that I go talk with a tree. I couldn't go outside anymore, so I talked with my table. The table ignored me.

The girls were digging out a large room. I thought it would be a dining room. It looked really big and awesome. Then they hit a chunk out of the ceiling and water poured in. Then they left and locked the door. I quickly stuffed the hole again, but Mafol wouldn't let me back in again. Note to self: Water is wet.

I was waiting in the stupid wet room for ages. Why can't these girls let me in? I didn't do anything wrong... Also I'm getting thirsty.

The water was drying up, the room was all muddy. Finally they let me out, and I quickly got a drink. The girls had made a beautiful little dining room downstairs,

but they told me I wasn't allowed to eat there. Urvad the woodcutter started putting little red things into the mud. I asked her what they were for, but she told me it was a secret. Exciting!

Moron's Log, Felsite:
I built a craftsdwarf's workshop and started making little swords out of obsidian. I like swords. I made exactly three of them because I got hungry after a while. I looked for some prickle berries, but they were all on the other carts. I wonder when they will come? I also found some icky purple mushrooms. I asked Urvad why we had these, but she only looked at me as if I was some kind of bloody moron, which I was definitely not. She took an icky purple mushroom out of her pocket and squished it until some icky red stuff came out. Then she rolled it into a ball. Now I know what the mushrooms were for! They are there for storing the little red things Urvad was sticking into the mud! I felt a lot smarter now.

It's so boring lately... I wanted to play a game of Find-the-pebble-between-other-pebbles but nobody wanted to play with me. Then Urvad shouted at me for picking the red stuff out of the mud. I'm gonna count stones again. One, two, three, seven...

Recently I heard Mafol talking to Urvad.

I suggest we make use of an obsidian cave-in gun, like this:

z3 without pumps (just in case):

7 = magma

Building destroyer-proof, flyer-proof, scalable, dig to reset. Don't carve ramps or channel, as doing so would remove the floor on z2 that prevents flyers from going up to the mechanics and wreaking havoc.

EDIT: Found it.
EDIT2: I am willing to stake my pride on the ability of this machine, if made for a much longer (say, 300 tile) hallway, to overcome the HFS.
EDIT3: I would like an underground room, please.
