I like Stonesense a lot, but it doesn't do justice to the scale of most projects. With both of them my imagination can meet somewhere in the middle.

huh, forgive me but overseer doesnt have a readme that I could see how do I take an ss? Just printscreen or is there something in the program?

I certainly can, my only qualm is that overseer doesn't show much of the detail (statues, windows, etc).

I just use swords. They are decent at slashing off body parts and they can stab. I keep enough hammers for a squad and level at least one troop of marksdwarves in hammer so they can switch to hammer if I get something like a colossus.

I used to have a few squads of each but I found that;

Axes were not much better than swords at slashing peoples arms off and lacked the versatility needed to make me want to train axe dwarves.

Spears are great for large targets like dragons but I found that a lone spear dwarf cut off from his squadmates in battle wasn't quite as adapt at dispatching a dozen gobos as the sworddwarf.

Hammerdwarves are great but I rarely if ever have to utilize them.

Hence, why I use swords exclusively. They are in my opinion the most versatile weapon available (that you can make in the fort obviously). I don't even have to ponder what I am sending them against, they simply take care of business.

You can get humans to be placed regardless if you change their civ to spawn anywhere instead of just plains.

You think 80 is alot? I didn't think about it and left child/baby cap on too long and have 500 dwarves. Good thing I'm working on a megaproject.

Hey Deon, In the new version (3.18 Graphics) you have compressed_save set to 'no' in the ini. Is this helpful for some reason in the new version of GENESIS or DF? Can I switch it back to 'yes' without causing problems? Thanks!

If you have it set to no then you can edit some world information post world gen using a tool. Switching it to yes shouldn't cause any major problems if you aren't editing anything. The biggest issue I suppose would be the possibility of corrupting files while saving but thats about it.

I tried to make the making of pearlash a bit easier to speed things up (I am getting tired of micromanaging glass production for my mega project). However, when I run this in the kiln the dwarves go and grab stone blocks and cloth bags for some reason.

Edit: It actually seems like they are grabbing random items. I just tried running it again and they grabbed some barrels, a bin, some bags, and stone blocks.

As to the ammo, toggling the claim used ammo option doesn't do anything to the already used ammo. The option only effects new ammo shot.

To answer your second question: Yes if a civ is not present you need to regen if you want that civ. I would suggest you utilize legends mod in the future to make sure all the races are alive.

I've never seen it, but my fortresses tend to end rather shortly.

No, at least I don't believe so. A quick check of my stocks in a 50 year old fortress shows no bags with XX.

Ya Q I don't think it does degrade over time. Clothing will degrade if it is being worn but in the stockpile cloth shouldn't degrade.

Well to be fair, their diplomat visits your fortress and while he is there he would presumably speak with your dwarves. Given that, it isn't a stretch to then say he used his own intuition to summize that you would indeed need more wood by next spring.

If you have uniforms set to always be worn all you would have to do is activate his squad. So long as they don't have endless squads of lashers you ought to be good to go.
