I'm ridiculously excited for this. I can't wait.

A few quick modding questions that I don't remember being answered:

1) Is it possible to have a quest chain that results in a new POI?

2) Are guilds/cults/etc just abstract political entities you can influence, or can heroes and/or the elite units have an affiliate to one of them? Then if so, can that affiliation give abilities to the hero?

Yeah, those are the criteria we've been using for the past few tournies. They just get copy-pasted forward by whoever makes the next topic.

The first two rings I pick up on my DEFE were a Ring of Fire and a Ring of Magical Power. All on D:1.

Granted, it's somewhat irrelevant because I tend to just splat spell users by being overly aggressive (something I'm trying to work on), but it's still a nice start.

Yep. Surrounded by a mob of orcs and died.

The sad thing is before I saw the entire thing, I saw -Cast and was thinking "well, that's normally bad, but as a Berserker... that's not really any change". Then I saw the rest, and just had to sigh.

In unrelated news, I'm pretty sure Trog went "Well, I know you're specializing in Maces and Flails, and I know I've been super helpful with my Dire Flails drops, but here, have this! ^_^"

Where "this" is this:
the +11 quick blade of Mastery {elec, Int-2}

Stabbers would kill for that weapon. Meanwhile, I'm sitting on Lair:8 with 17 ranks in Maces and Flails, no ranks in Short Blades, and no ranks in Shields trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do with it...

EDIT:

And with my MiBe run hitting champion of Trog, I've earned the Pious II banner! No points for it, unfortunately, but it's something.

EDIT EDIT:

...And he died shortly after. Ah well, he had no useful armor and no capable resistances. Hitting any further branches would've been a death sentence, and the only major reason I started the character was to finish up the Pious II banner anyway.

Congrats!!

I believe I speak for everyone here (as most of you are on-record with agreeing with me):

Fuck. The. Abyss.

Wandering around Swamp: 4 in attempts to get that rune. Mara and Louise are both hanging around Swamp 4 and I, forgetting Louise likes to send people to the Abyss, try to kill her. Then I get banished.

Running around Abyss: 1 I discover that I'm actually more powerful than I realized (everything was dying to me with minimal problems), and an exit wasn't appearing, so I figure I'd try to make this vaguely worthwhile, and start diving for the rune.

Hit Abyss: 4, still doing fairly fine, and get teleported right smack into the middle of a rune vault. I get mobbed with nowhere to run and little time to wait for a tp out (even with a scroll). I hold out for a few turns, hoping to grab the rune I see before dying (...there were three on screen. The one I was going for was a mimic, just to add insult to injury). Then I die.

Arrgh!

Yep, that was the plan.

As a sidenote, hitting the Orcish Mines with a HOFi of Beogh, with above 3-star piety, remains one of the most hilarious things ever. There's no fighting that goes on at that point. It's just recruiting an army.

EDIT:
Correction. It's recruiting an army if you don't lead them on a suicide charge through level 4. Oops.

Yeah... that's about what I came to. I used it for a few floors (still early enough that everything died with it) but I just flat-out got fed up, said screw it, and am currently using a +4 war axe (freeze) I partially found, partially got lucky with a scroll of branding.

Next question. Just how good does an item have to be to justify putting up with the annoyance that is *Tele without an Amulet of Stasis?

Because this war axe I found on D:6 on a HOFi specializing in axes w/ shields is really, really tempting:

What's the general strategy for Scrolls of Enchant Weapon/Armor? I don't like using them immediately, because what I find a better weapon to use them on later... but if I die before finding something, they're wasted anyway. Or if I find a randart, they're wasted, too.

Oh. If you're really good you can mess around with the Nemelex Choice combos. Else I'd suggest to just not worry about it, pick the combo you're best at and/or want to play, and go for it. You'll pick up points as you go, but lots of splatted characters because you wasted a day trying a Nemelex Choice combo is going to be significantly less effective than snagging a rune or two (or more!) with your best combo.

(that said, if you want to try a Nemelex Choice combo, go for it. We're not here to stop fun.)

TL;DR: Go play and stop worrying. You're overthinking the tourney.

It worked. If you open the clan page for the Nobles you'll find yourself listed (I've linked the clan names to their respective pages in the first post, so that's the easy way to see).

As for point strat... win? The tournaments designed well enough that how far you've made it in the game pretty much determines how many points you're gonna get, to the point that the only real strat to get lots of points is to win.

Oh god. I thought people were exaggerating about Qazlal's noise problem. I took another MiFi down into Lair:8 -  the vault that's basically a wide open oval with a small island with goodies in the middle - with 4 stars in piety. Step down, see a single vampire mosquito, chuck a few rocks at it so it gets closer, move a few steps up to attack... and the entire floor converges on me.
