If I'm going to play a renegade cop turned assassin, I might as well Ham his story up to extraordinary levels. If I'm lucky, I might be able to Max Payne it up in future flasbacks.
Guy put down his paper, got out his knife to sharpen, and started reminiscing on his past at the NNYPD. Harvey Northman. His partner on the force. The two of them worked during some of the toughest times in New New York, and forged an unbreakable union so they could take the city even just one step closer to true peace. When it was revealed that they were both in line for promotions, Guy revealed to his partner that he would be proposing to his girlfriend when the promotion was given, and wanted Harvey to be the best man.
Pretty story, right? Guy thinks to himself. Only problem with it is that the names are all wrong. Guy takes a sip of his coffee. Back then, I asked my partner to be my best man. My name was Harvey Northman. And my partner was named Guy Fieri, after his father's childhood hero. He hated that name. But times were good. Times were right. It was never meant to be this way.
It was a chilly October morning. The brass decided to relocate Harvey and Guy to a more remote part of the city, in hopes that the two would clear it up and give peace another big push forward. Harvey(Guy) spots some suspicious movement. "Hey Guy(Harvey), call HQ, I think I see some suspicious movement." Guy gives a quick response, and in no time, they get the order to go in, keep things busy until backup arrives. It's a strange order, but Harvey doesn't question it. The two bust in on a drug operation, cocaine was being smuggled in through coffee and hamburger patties. They aren't noticed at first, but before Harvey can make his move, he's been knocked out.
I wasn't always the killer I am now. I was a respectable officer of the law for a time. Guy thinks to his thought audience as he drinks more coffee. This incident was different from any other. When I came to, can ya guess who I saw?
Harvey wakes up, blood running down the back of his head. He can't see anything, there's a bag over his head. His ears seem to be plugged as well. Harvey tries to struggle free, but gives up when he feels the familiar pressure of a gun at the back of his head. The bag is taken off, and the man with the gun walks into Harvey's view... It was Guy! Harvey's eyes light up with anger and confusion, he thrashes in the chair for a while, until Guy shoots him in the leg. Harvey winces at the pain, and calms down enough to speak. "Why, Fieri?! Why are ya doin' this?!" His former partner takes a seat, arms folded over the back. "Because, "Guy." I want what you have." Guy takes a shot at Harvey's other leg. "I'm going under surgery soon. Your face, your voice, all of your physical traits will soon be mine. So I'd hate to leave, but I have an appointment. Boys, take real good care of him." "Harvey" takes one last shot at Guy, hitting his stomach.
I don't know why he changed in the end. Guy picks his news paper back up and returns to his reading. And I've stopped caring. I'll kill this man by my own hands someday. And I'll ensure he lives until then if that's what needs to be done.
Harvey spent the next few hours unconscious, waking up between beatings occasionally. The last time he woke up, someone was there to the rescue. He was taken out of town, to a private cottage equipped with medical facilities. Nearby was a lit fireplace nearby keeping the rooms nice and warm. A group of three tells him he was moved to a secret facility placed to investigate police and government corruption. Guy looks into a mirror at the scarring he's suffered while the group fills him in. His face isn't the same, for sure. But it is still undoubtedly his face. When asked for his name, he walks to the fireplace with the help of his three rescuers. Tossing in his police badge and ID, he responds, "I'm... Just Guy. Nothing else."
After several weeks of recovery, Guy attempted to return home. But what he saw when he got there was Harvey proposing to his lover. And Guy realized he had been completely cast out of his own life. Guy spent three years after that working with the agency, learning of the darkness he worked for. During his final month there, he attended Harvey's wedding, and vanished from the grid soon after. In order to receive his revenge, Guy became a killer of men, crushing his humanity to deliver to his former partner a merciless death and afterlife.
