DF Adventure Mode Discussion / I'm in a pond. How the hell do I get out?
« on: September 28, 2010, 10:36:03 am »
So this has happened to me like 3 times already. I fight something, dodge away and end up in a pond (especially if ambush catches me near to one), I can't get out, start drowning and my uber-leet-hax warrior gets killed.

I have no idea if it's possible to get out of a situation like this, I tried to use forced move (alt + direction key) but it doesn't work near the walls of the pond. maybe it's caused by the fact that when I jump into a pond I start drowning?

Any way to get out of this?

I once fought a bronze colossus and my skill level grew so quick that I couldn't harm him (all I had was an iron battle axe and a crappy crossbow) but he couldn't harm me.

For some reason during the fight his movement speed grew like 10 times so I couldn't harm him.
We could have been fighting forever but in my stupid attempt to get away I jumped into a pond and couldn't get out. It ended up with me drowning like an idiot...

There are some advantages to lying down, namely some attacks can't hit you (I'm not sure which, but I think that includes projectiles), but you're also really slow.
Mmm, I don't think there is any advantage at all lying on the ground. Being prone makes you unable to dodge anything & without a shield, you'll just get beaten, shot up & trampled more easily.

I noticed that for some reason megabeasts are having a really hard time hitting you if you lie down. It is weird since most of them can charge you and knock you over.
Also skill levels grow exponentially faster if you fight while lying down (I might be wrong though)

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Stones vs Rock Blocks

There is point if you want to build walls worth a crap. If they are made from stone they will have less value than those made out of blocks (and that's a thing since you can't engrave them)

My fps never went over 45 :(.
My processor sucks...

No I have not tried peeling off the layers of the ground but it could possibly work.
I sadly can't check it now because I deleted the save (autosaving on so after a few years it really becomes a clusterf... cluster friend)

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Legendary Wrestler...?
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:27:35 pm »
Yesterday I fought a bronze colossus and I had a similar problem. After a short while (which I survived without injury) I had:
Legendary axedwarf (I know axe and a colossus... but I met him by accident!)
Legendary armor user
Legendary shield user
Legendary wrestler
Legendary fighter
Legendary dodger
Legendary ... something I don't remember what

The thing is I couldn't harm it and well it couldn't harm me. Eventually it seems that bronze colossus also "skilled up" and started chasing after me like a sports car, while before it was barely catching up to me (I just went "ah what the hell!" and tried to attack it) after 5 minutes of the battle it was literally IMPOSSIBLE to get it off me! I kept running away, he kept charging at me, I got knocked down (no harm at all), I stand up, repeat. He chased me through the entire map and I was trying to get him into a dwarven city (would be elven city but sadly there were none of them around... any more :>)  but eventually decided it's too far and tried something else. So I jumped into the biggest pond I could find to loose him.
Well he didn't jump after me :).
And... I didn't have a skill in swimming...
And... I couldn't get out...
And... I kinda...
drowned...

BUT I WAS SO LEGENDARY AND BADASS!

The burrow idea is good but you have to make sure he is absolutely not hauling ANYTHING (even food to eat) or he will just get to the burrow and whine about how he can't find a spot to drop it...

I don't exactly remember where but triggering FPS is possible from INIT file that's dwarf fortress\data\init\init.ini

Also it would probably help if he was relieved of his labouring duties if he has any (like hauling stuff) for the time being.

Than you can give them back to him and still have a pretty accurate record of your possessions.
