DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

Quick question, how can a FB made of glass climb 30 z-levels up a well that has no water in it? Seriously, I fell off mark with the bore and didn't end up in the cavern sea.

If it has wings or is based on a creature that has wings, it doesn't need to climb.

The magma itself is filled with demons, for that matter.

Okay, question this time. Do plants grow on rough clay floors? Do I need to water/muddy the clay first, or does it work like soil from the get-go?
Rough clay floors?

Clay is a soil layer. Plants will grow on a regular clay layer just fine; no need to irrigate.

I mean constructed floors made from clay.

Is the ramp supported? The upmost end (on Z-axis, not Y-axis) needs to be against a wall, or the ramp will be unusable.

Ramps are a pain in the butt. Supposedly they're better for FPS than stairs, but there's about a dozen ways they can go horribly wrong, so I don't think it's worth it.

Did a stupid thing with flattening some annoying terrain and lost a miner. The other miner got bit in the head by the aforementioned honey badger, but thankfully seems to have survived.

First migrant wave to Squirtedpaint includes a LEGENDARY STONECRAFTER. @_@

Congrats, Dice! That is indeed a dwarvenly whoopass sword. What kind of mood did it come from? (Hell, even a possession isn't so bad if it resulted in THAT.)

ETA: Dwarves at Squirtedpaint found wild garlic! My modded plants work! :D

ETAx2: And hot peppers! Rice requires water to grow, so I'm not expecting to find any of that, but potatoes are still a possibility...

They're all bugged. This game's in alpha, after all. .25 is just LESS bugged.

After three bad starts, I'm finally striking the earth at Squirtedpaint, and remembering to save this time so I can properly savescum if I do that stupid thing with the miners and the magma again. *facepalm*

The volcano is called "The Fires of Perishment". Thank you, Urist McObvious.

Did something stupid that cost me both my miners (volcano "The Fires of Perishment" lived up to its name), so I'm restarting Squirtedpaint AGAIN. Good thing TFoP makes the area easy to identify!

STRIKE THE EARTH!

Stupid me this wasn't DF Fortress Discussion. NEVER MIND

Goblins will start showing up once you've exported enough wealth to look like you're worth robbing, I think.

Step 1) Check to make sure no active miners/woodcutters/hunters are in your army. They have a hidden "civilian uniform" that can conflict with a military uniform.

Step 2) Ensure everybody has backpacks to stash their food in.

Step 3) Ensure everybody has containers to stash their food in.

Step 4) ???

Step 5) Tidy!!!

... if not you have a bug. Sorry.

Getakshibbi, "Asax Lite", needed some help with the second FB to cross his path. It spat fire and was getting smoke all over everything, and took out most of his tribe before he got to them. :<

I haxxed with DF Liquids to keep the fire and the smoke manageable, and finally breached my own fort and sent two squads of dorfs to help him out. One of my smiths decapitated it and then punched the next to death after it ate my carpenter and her baby. D:
