DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Goblin Recycling Center

I believe magma will leave bones and iron goods intact. Is it important to keep the copper?

Also, in my experience, "kill" orders on megabeasts are bugged. Instead, one needs to station them near where the megabeast is, and they'll see it and go attack.

Located native black sand at Craftgates. Let the greenhouse project begin! I'm planning for it to build up in a beehive shape, just for attractiveness's sake, with rough stone floors so my dwarves can get them muddy enough to grow plants. At the top will be a lookout pavillion for my marksdorfs, so they can get the high ground on any goblin incursions.

Craftgates seems prone to ambushes by goblin marksmen. Very annoying, since I can't close for melee, and for the most part they're smart enough to stay the hell away from my repeating spikes.

Now that you have cracked the world Gen, you should crack the world in your next fort. Boatmurdered style.
Been there, done that. (Linked thread contains spoilers)
Lol
That is an epic thread and you should feel epic.

A gear assembly that's covered on all sides by walls and a floor on top as a roof still freezes in the winter. What's wrong with it?

Once an area has been touched by the sun, it is forever considered "outside". This is abusable for greenhouses, but not so much for power assemblies.

@ gordy: Go to stockpile settings > Food and disable everything, then enable prepared meals? Works for me.

Another one for "Oo-rist" here, heavier on the first syllable.

I've got a lovely new embark site, Squirtedpaint, that has a volcano and a salt aquifer. And sand, so I can start planning my mega greenhouse!

Someone want to give me a "total idiot's guide to breaching aquifer"? I've looked at the wiki, but it was confusing. I think I understand desalinization, sort of.

Do you have any diagnosticians? Go to his profile and find the option for (h)ealth.

There is debate about whether muddied floors can be used for above ground crops. If so, you could do a silo for all your crops.
I succeeded in .31.18, for what that's worth.

Well, I know what my next megaproject is going to be, since I'm importing sand and have access to magma. Green glass greenhouse! :D

Did you make it yourself, or is it a souvenier (sp?) from the circus?

Like... six simultaneous goblin and elf incursions. They turned on each other. The goblins won and proceeded to rip apart the fort in celebration.

Another flying FB, Sedme Galel Kamca ("Sedme the Squid of Dreams") the horned cicada, approached Craftgates, completely ignored all three openings from Cave 2 into the complex, and went after the cave swallow folk. A couple died quickly, but this one spearman's been locked in melee with the thing for a month or two now.

Meanwhile, I've bid all of Craftgates' dwarves to move all the loose stone out of the way so nobody trips on it. Two magma smelters and two magma forges are now running, processing prodigous amounts of tetrahedrite and galena into copper bolts and silver hammers. :D

ETA: After about two months or so of nothing but melee combat, Getakshibbi, "Utteredblossoms", the Cave Swallow Man Spearman struck down Sedme "the Squid of Dreams" at Craftgates.

ETA: Playing while chilling with my buddies...

Proxian: Wait, "donkey has given birth to a donkey foal"? How did that happen?
Friend: Well, when a mommy donkey and a daddy donkey love each other very much...
Proxian: But I don't have any daddy donkeys!
Friend: Uh... divine intervention?

Yeah, crowded animals start picking fights with each other.

Finally got a FB at Craftgates; was starting to think they'd never show.

Quote
The forgotten beast Cova Mesicamothida has come! A towering eyeless mockingbird. It has a pair of knobby antennae and it undulates rhythmically. Its dark brown feathers are downy. Beware its poisonous bite!

Forty-four pages (I kid you not) of "The Hammerdwarf/Macedwarf/Metalsmith/Weaponsmith/Fashionista bites the Forgotten Beast in the (body part)! The (dwarf) latches on firmly! The Forgotten Beast breaks the hold of the (dwarf)'s tooth on the Forgotten Beast's (body part)" later, I start to wish I'd thought to mod in feathers and pillows, so my dorfs could have beds with *forgotten beast down pillows*.

ETA: Huh. There's another dead FB listed here, and I'm pretty sure my dorfs didn't kill it.

Quote from: Dush's Description
A towering earthworm composed of salt. It has wings and it has a bloated body.

Wonder if one of the neighboring cave civs did that.

ETAx2: Copied the save and looked in Legends:

Quote
In the midsummer of 123, Dush was struck down by the olm man Blockbreeds with a tower-cap spear in Craftgates.

Cova the Molten Dent died in late spring 124, so I just barely missed Dush-- and the olm folk live in Cave 1, so maybe I'll see Blockbreeds the spear-olm later.
