Hey, having problems with getting dfhack running on Linux Mint. Obviously, the libc and libc++ libraries I have installed are the wrong version, but at this point it seems I've tried everything reasonable that I can install and upgrade through my package manager. I do have the Linux version of DF installed, based on the "dwarfort" executable rather than "Dwarf Fortress.exe" test mentioned in the install instructions. And yet this keep being the result of launching dfhack:

Code: [Select]
SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Dwarf Fortress$ ./dfhack
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.32' not found (required by ./dwarfort)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.34' not found (required by ./dwarfort)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.29' not found (required by ./dwarfort)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.13' not found (required by ./dwarfort)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.34' not found (required by ./hack/libdfhack.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.33' not found (required by ./hack/libdfhack.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.30' not found (required by ./hack/libdfhack.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.32' not found (required by ./libg_src_lib.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.33' not found (required by ./libg_src_lib.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.34' not found (required by ./libg_src_lib.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.29' not found (required by ./libg_src_lib.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.30' not found (required by ./libg_src_lib.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.13' not found (required by ./libg_src_lib.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.34' not found (required by hack/libprotobuf-lite.so)
./dwarfort: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.34' not found (required by hack/liblua.so)

/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 does exist, but is apparently not the right version. Any suggestions for where I could dig further to sort this out?
EDIT: Ah goddamit, I'm probably looking at upgrading my distro to the next major version. Because apparently manually forcing an update to glibc is a sure-fire way to experience Fun in the DF sense of the word on Linux.

I'm following the instructions to "Cross-compile windows files for running DF in Steam for Linux" and I'm running into a snag. Part-way through building the MSVC builder image (didn't work without sudo, so I went with that), docker proclaims I'm out of drive space in /opt. According to "df -h", this is not actually the case, though this might be because I only checked after it had aborted and cleaned up after itself. How much drive space does docker require to build the MSVC image? Can't seem to find this in docs.dfhack.org.

EDIT: I figured out it really is running out of space; in /var, not in /opt. The question still stands: how much space do I need to free up in /var?
EDIT2: Question is moot. It's docker alone that's literally filling up nearly the entirety of my /var partition when it downloads things to build the MSVC image. I literally can't free up enough space to let docker finish the job without repartitioning my system drive. And to people having this issue in the future: temporarily symlinking the folder to a larger drive/partition doesn't work, because docker won't proceed through symlinks.

This succession fort is dead unless someone else wants to pick it up and have a blood feoud against cave swallow people.

[OOC Post]
Okay. I'm supposed to take over again, but I'm very busy in the near future. So here's the deal. If anyone wants to take pressure off me and run the fort, just say so in a post and I'll update the 1st page accordingly.

One thing, though. If the liason offers you to become a barony, tell them to stick it. My original idea was along the lines of a "free dwarven state" but I never got around to actually translating the story to English. Of course, if you make a very god In-Character reasoning for this, I'm willing to forgive you. After all, accidents are Fun to arrange.

Taking over? Armok, No! This was an In Character request for you, the current overseer, to start producing clear glass blocks and windows.

As farming is a highly seasonal job, and her managerial duties also don't fill up enough of her time, Mart Logemirtir came up with an idea for a merchant elf execution device. She withdrew into her room for a few days and came out with a roughly sketched plan covered in many notes.

Spoiler: Mart's plan (click to show/hide)

Because of this grand plan, Mart requested the production of clear glass blocks and windows from the current overseer, Joey.

Looks like Enguhl has vanished. Aravin, your turn. Use the save in the summary post.

Alright. Just discussed the trade agreement with the liason from the Mountainhomes. I had some dubts at first, handing leadership over to spadger. But he did let me out of my room. Now I see that it was a great idea to hand the running of the fort over to Spader. He's a much better leader than I am. In fact, I think he actually prefers that I'm handling the talks with visiting diplomats. Means he isn't pestered by them when he's planning what to build next.

Looking back on my earlier notes, I can only wonder how I could have become that paranoid? Anyway, a week starving in my room and another week in the booze storage fixed all my mental problem. I probably wasn't drinking enough while I was trying so hard to be a responsible leader. Bah! The only way to stay sane while running a fort is to make decisions while drunk. And to still be drunk when dealing with the consequences.

Migrants. The timing couldn't be worse. It has to be Spadger's doing. He must have sent word to the mountainhomes to get more migrants here and increase my burden. Well, they're not getting into MY fort! I closed the brawbridges myself and forbade touching the levers.

This is it. My end. I've been locked in my quarters. It must have been Spadger. I can't think of anyone else. Removing him from the position of manager must've driven him over the edge. As soon as I went to sleep, he locked the door. Why, why didn't I order a wooden door for my quarters? I could kick that in and get out, but I have no chance against stone.

The start of the metal industry has been dragged for over two months now. The reason was that we unexpectedly ran out of edible food and I had to focus on that. The fact that we ran out of food and my seeming inability to follow through on my promises has caused grumbling from everyone. Often, I feel some others, like Joey and Spadger, looking at me with these knowing glares. They're plotting against me! I know it! They want to replace me!

PRAISE ARMOK! While digging out the millstone rooms, the miners found more bituminous coal. Truly, this fort will be wealthy in metal. The windmills above those rooms were built as well. Now we're just waiting on Litast to make those millstones.

Truly, Armok has blessed us. The coal vein just keeps on going. The miners have been digging without rest since I gave the order and they're not expecting the veing to end for at least another week of digging. Now if we only had some metal to refine.

Announced the plan to start up a metal industry. The plan was greeted with some enthusiasm, though it's obvious noone likes me as a leader. Food stores are low and I still don't have a proper food production set up. Only the still and farms. The miners decided to dig out a lignite vein and they struck bituminous coal while doing so. I pretended that I had given the order to dig that lignite and told them to start digging away at the bituminous coal.

Until today, things haven't been too eventful. Today, a group of migrants arrived. I greeted all six of them personally and welcomed them into the fort. Two miners, a farmer, a mason, a bone crafter and a furnace operator. Compared to the usual troves of useless peasants that arrived to my old mountainhome, these people are very skilled. A pity I have no metal industry yet. If I did, I could give picks to those two miners. I think the metal industry is going to be the next step now.
