-I've never used animal traps so I can't answer those.
-Yes, "tame a large animal" will tame elephants and such and so forth.
-I catch groundhogs as well as, again, elephants in cage traps all the time.  Except for things with the trap avoid tag (forgotten beasts and clowns, mostly) they'll catch everything.
-Build the cage, hit (q), then (a) and deselect the animal to release it.
-Hunters will only hunt with crossbow and bolts.

-For your bookkeeper, go to the nobles screen (n), scroll down to bookkeeper and hit (s).  Change to medium or high.

-There will be 2 more separate cavern systems deeper down.

-As long as the gobs showed on embark, you'll get visits.  Lizardmen inhabit caves and caverns, iirc.  If you don't have any caves, then they're in the caverns.

Really, any trigger that goes off and on can be hooked up.  That's the entire purpose of the repeater; to get the trigger going off and on.  Since there is no limit to the number of linkages to any trigger...

I haven't run into it but it mentions such on the wiki.  I guess I wasn't paying much attention though because it only mentions metal; I'm probably wrong about the stone.

I'd never actually tried it, only heard of it being done.  That's what I would have done, too.  Apparently, not having a brain only slowed my dwarfs down.  And they didn't seem to mind not having a heart or spine at all.

Could someone who knows more than the nothing I know about modding chime in?  I'd like to know now, as well.

Yea thats probably a good idea. Immigrants always lead to my downfall because I cant expand as fast as they arrive.

As far as invaders go, I can never last long enough for them to arrive anyway.

Edit: I was just reading about boatmurdered and would seriously love to know how they got magma to flow outside killing siegers.
That was way back in the 2d days.  Basically, all they had to do was dig a channel from one end of the map to the other.  It's a little more complicated now.
