DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: September 21, 2012, 02:29:50 am »
"My, this red stone is beautiful."

"It's actually shale.  You don't want to know why it's red.  You won't sleep at night."

I think this sums it up.

Dear UristMcMiner

When I tell you to mine a square, I expect you to take the shortest route, not walk around the giant cavern lake and uncover a forgotten nasty that should have forever remained forgotten on the other side.

Brand new fort in its second year that just hit the third cavern layer...

Raw spoilerite!  Praise the miners!

"Oooh, lets dig some, it won't have its stick so close to the top, right?"

*begins to mine Spoilerite.*

An elven caravan from SomethingICannotPronounce has arrived.

Queue Uninvited Guest one.  Right on top of a miner who decided to take the long way around the cavern pool.  Facepalm 1.

About a minute later.

Uninvited Guest two, uncovered by the same dwarf who is now running in fear in some random direction as poison melts his skin off.

One more minute.  At this point, I'm not being careful with the spoilerite and just trying to get what is exposed in the cavern out of the grou--

*Horrifying screams come from the darkness below.* Facepalm 2.

Insert Uninvited Guest three, less than ten seconds after that.  Facepalm 3

Oh s***

Much scrambling and flailing was had to try to put a floor over the shaft, with no luck.  The ten military dwarves didn't stand a chance.  Uninvited guests and guests from below come pouring out of the shaft, and much carnage is had.  The previously bland shale walls are now a beautiful red.   Facepalm 4 & 5.

And then there is one last dwarf left alive, with guests from below closing from every direction...

*some migrants have arrived.*

*facepalm 6*

Death count:

Dwarves: 95
Uninvited guests: 1
Guests from Below: 6
Cats: 16
War dogs: 8
Kittens: 5
Sheep: 7
Elves: 3

Aussie, there are 1051 coffins and 489 slabs.  :P

Oh wow.

GAH! Kill it! Kill it with FIRE! Nuke it from orbit!

SHOOT IT INTO THE SUN!

It's the only way to be sure.

But it's cute?

lol presses red button

Nukes don't really work that way.

Actually I'm matching names of ghosts to the list. I'm making good use of the v key and the unit list :-) I'm consistently getting spirit laid to rest messages but there's still more :-p

This is the way to do it.  Good job.

Is it just me, or are the normal crickets being slowly replaced by cricket demons?

Just you.  Demons know better than to intrude in one of my forts.

So then how do you explain this?

DF bears down on your CPU and RAM speed.  It's not really that hard on anything else.

You're added to the list Vehudur.  This is what happens when you tempt fate.

And yes, it's good old 31.25.  There's a version with the graphics tileset used for the fort in the OP

I also need a version of DT that works, because I've been playing small, efficient forts without it lately.  This gets huge bonus points if it works with the newest version as well.

But what's the worst that could happen?  I mean really?

The worst? Swordthunders could hear you ask such a question.

This could be entertaining.  I say bring it.

Normally, my reaction to everyone else failing so miserably would be to grab the ravening crime against reality by the horns and sign up for a turn myself, but I have strong moral compunctions against fucking with eldritch forces beyond my comprehension, so I'll just sit here making snide comments.

Maybe I should make a sig in the sig thread...
That would be a good idea.  This thread is full of delicious quotes.

Part of me is wants to give this another shot, but the rest of me realized it would probably result in something truly horrible happening.

But what's the worst that could happen?  I mean really?

The best part is, the fort still seems to be cursed.

World of Warcraft.  I know right?   I tabbed back in after checking something for about 6 mins and was greeted by this:

Honestly, I don't particularly care what they think if their software would allow a hacker into my computer.

It's not a case against DRM, it's a case against poor coding.  Unfortunately, the two seem to go hand-in-hand.

Note 3:  Yesterday, I went into a friend's copy of minecraft and I replaced the sound for opening a chest* with the sound of the creeper fuse activating.
you got that off 'top ten ways to troll your friends' didn't you?

No, but I would be astounded if I was the first person to think of the idea.

It's been done - but I prefer trolling that isn't going to kill you.

Not that it's stopped me from making minecart tunnels that end in a pool of lava after a sharp turn.
