for natural flow I've used water channels that drop a level every ten tiles - this still flows poorly though. A solution for you would be to channel a spot in the brook to set up a water wheel and a screw pump to pump the water into your supply channel - this can be built into a little pump house to keep it safe from building destroyers. This will ensure good 'pressurized' flow through your water system as long as there is water under the pump. Make sure you have the ability to drain any place you send water to.
pumps can remove most of the water from a river so you might not need to make a dam. The simplest dam building plans involve re-directing the river with pumps anyways.

Sending them to a station somewhere was working for me (31.25) as well as having them patrol a route with one stop where they can see the targets and another at a bolt stockpile where they can not see any targets.

As well it is important to make sure they are assigned ammo, and fresh ammo as well (31.25). Occasionally I have to clear all squad ammo assignments and re-assign.

there is no requirement to use them and their non-use does not detract from gameplay, so more available options in a complex simulation game would make things better I say.

yes, the quantities, uniform colour magma-proof rock of infinite supply. My current mega-project tower has over 20k obsidian in it, at least 80% of which was farmed.

There's an elf princess corpse preserved as a trophy under glass in the leadership suits' waterfall lobby. Stealing, killing, waging war, carpentry; all the basics really. Plans are in the works to pave the surface in obsidian to prevent future tree growth.

try a single-tile raising drawbridge, functionally the same as a floodgate but operates in opposite states when contrlled but a lever or pressure plate (ie; hooked to the same trigger device a drawbridge will be up (closed) when the floodgate is down (open).

Downside; 1xn sized raising drawbridges are difficult to visually determine if they are open or closed.

A smaller embark area in a smaler world, genned with fewer z-levels/ caverns would make a lot of difference in the long run as well. Probably more so then all else besides unit numbers.

(build) a (C)onstructed (u)p stair in the dining room and you will be able to (d)esignate a (j)down stair in the bottom of the water source that a dwarf will be able to dig up into.


This seems like it is going to let most of the water in all at once though... do post results.
