That's right, It's here. If you weren't aware this adventure was planned over here:
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=127837.0The players are already decided and they more or less know what's going on.
GreatWyrmGold, Tomcost, kaian-a-coel, Asgarus and Aseaheru are going to make their characters then we'll figure out what they start out doing. By default they'll be starting out on a space station with a pile of cash but if they want I'll let them choose some back-story for their group, where and why they are meeting up. Maybe a part of some existing entity such as stellar survey company, mercenary group or evil space pirates? Being pulled out of cryo after their colony ship was found drifting in space? Space Celebrities??
Ship mechanics will basically be that there are two methods of motion for ships, FTL drives and conventional engines. FTL can't be used within the gravity well of stars and you can only make FTL jumps to locations you have the coordinates for just pointing at a star and saying go is mostly useless since you don't know what is there, for that same reason it can be very dangerous.
I'm going to have stats this time around so that I can do some rolls if I feel like it:
I have a vague system for rolls which I am making up while typing it. I'll be using an RNG with 0 - 100.
0 is a complete fail, you can't possibly get 0 so i'll just say if you somehow get it your head will explode.
50 is a fail but nothing bad permanently happens. The engine doesn't start, but it doesn't take any damage.
Anything in between 50 and 80 will give you a bonus towards you next roll on that task. (a roll of 55 will give you a bonus of 5)
80 is a success.
100 is a total success. You do the job amazingly with some sort of positive bonus (less time, 150% engine efficiency, stuff like that).
An example is if you have an easy engineering problem.
If you have 30 engineering(+30), 10 science(+5) and 10 intelligence(+10) then you've got +45, it's an easy job so you have +25.
You have 70 so you can't break anything. You need a roll of 10 to fix the problem so there is a pretty small chance you'll fail.
And here is all of the character stuff:
Races: | Humans are human, funnily enough. Humans are one half of the Ran-Human Coalition with the other half of course being the Ran. The two species share central government and there are few locations in the Coalition that have a population consisting exclusively of one of the species. The two species have been close partners since before their discovery of FTL travel. Even though the coalition is made up of two species it is the smallest of all local galactic communities.

 | The Ran are the other half of the Ran-Human Coalition. The species is amazingly simular to Humans sharing many physical and psychological traits and even evolving on an earth-like planet. Ran have a thick coat due to the low temperatures on their home world. They are slightly stronger than humans but have less dexterous hands.

 | The Grak are a genderless species with a tough layer of carapace-like scales that hails from a world with high radiation. The Grak were the first species to develop FTL travel but due to civil war and unrest they failed to gain any advantage on other sentient species. In modern times the Grak central government officially controls the 3rd largest empire and recently launched a major offensive on the Tkunanai home system and has occupied the area ever since, using the mineral rich solar system to further build up its military.

 | The Tkunanai are a humanoid species hailing from an oceanic world. The Tkunanai have territory only slightly larger than that of the Human-Ran Coalition. They were in the process of waging a successful war against a Ragenenk Sovereignty when their home system was taken by the Grak in a surprise invasion. The main fleet launched a counterattack in an effort to reclaim their home world but failed leaving the undersupplied military demoralised. What is now left of the Tkunanai fleets are either defending their colonies or operating as mercenaries to cover running costs.

 | Ragenenk have soft skin on most of their body but have natural plating, this plating is used most in the larval stage but still provides some protection in maturity. The Ragenenk are the largest of all the interstellar races but are incredibly fractured. Despite each individual of the species having sentience the society operates in a manner similar to an insect hive with the female queens ruling over the rest of the species. The many queens fight fierce wars in attempts to destroy each other. This intense hate is driven by the species’ primal instincts and is the reason the species is divided into many individual sovereignties.

 | Enans are the second most numerous species known species in the galaxy they are also the largest and have four strong legs to support their large bodies. Their backs house large fat reserves which allow an individual to go months without food if the need arises. They have two pairs of arms. A larger pair used for tasks requiring strength and a small pair used for intricate work. The species is known for its stubbornness and despite it being the oldest race it took them thirty times the time it took for them to develop interstellar travel when their history is compared to the Grak. Their stubbornness is matched only by their greed. While there is technically an Enan Empire with a central government it holds no real power. Instead the power is held by the many crime families who constantly undercut eachother. Each Enan typically has large tattoos displaying which family it is associated with.

Character Sheet thing:Name:
Species:
Favorite Colour: (if you want to do in character chat do it in this colour)
Gender:
Male/Female for Humans, Ran, Tkunanai and Enans
Grak don't have a gender but if you want I guess you can choose to have them identified with either male or female pronouns. I'll just try and avoid gender pronouns otherwise.
Ragenenk can only be Male since the females are the size of houses, unless you have some start scenario that centers around having a female queen.
Skills
30 points:
- Combat - How well you do in actual combat
- Ranged Weapons - How well you handle ranged weapons
- Melee Weapons - How well you do with melee weapons
- Science - Bonus to engineering, electronics and medical skills
- Engineering - How good you are with engine, manufacturing and weapon systems
- Electronics - How well you do with sensor, life support and computer systems
- Medical - How well you do practicing medicine/operating medical equipment
- Charisma - How well you can talk to people (bonus to negotiation and guile)
- Negotiation - How good you are at striking deals
- Guile - How good you are at lying to people

Stats:
5 points (add these onto the base stats of your species if you want to do me a favor)
- Strength
- Endurance
- Intelligence
- Perception
- Agility
If you guys want to decide on a team colour that would be cool, gotta paint the ship something.
There will be an opportunity for waitlisters/whoever to contribute by controlling a 6th character, the form that character takes will be an AI operating the ships computer or an AI in some robotic platform.
If you want to take an action in secret you can PM it to me and I'll do a post saying that you've sent me something (so everyone else knows you aren't dead).
It might be necessary to have an OOC thread but I'll see how we do without it.I think that's everything so let's get this going.
