The players are already decided and they more or less know what's going on.

GreatWyrmGold, Tomcost, kaian-a-coel, Asgarus and Aseaheru are going to make their characters then we'll figure out what they start out doing. By default they'll be starting out on a space station with a pile of cash but if they want I'll let them choose some back-story for their group, where and why they are meeting up. Maybe a part of some existing entity such as stellar survey company, mercenary group or evil space pirates? Being pulled out of cryo after their colony ship was found drifting in space? Space Celebrities??

Ship mechanics will basically be that there are two methods of motion for ships, FTL drives and conventional engines. FTL can't be used within the gravity well of stars and you can only make FTL jumps to locations you have the coordinates for just pointing at a star and saying go is mostly useless since you don't know what is there, for that same reason it can be very dangerous.

I'm going to have stats this time around so that I can do some rolls if I feel like it:

  • Ranged Weapons - How well you handle ranged weapons

  • Science - Bonus to engineering, electronics and medical skills
  • Engineering - How good you are with engine, manufacturing and weapon systems
  • Electronics - How well you do with sensor, life support and computer systems
  • Medical - How well you do practicing medicine/operating medical equipment
  • Charisma - How well you can talk to people (bonus to negotiation and guile)
  • Negotiation - How good you are at striking deals
  • Guile - How good you are at lying to people
  • Anything else I forgot. As long as it's reasonable I'm cool with it.

If you guys want to decide on a team colour that would be cool, gotta paint the ship something.

There will be an opportunity for waitlisters/whoever to contribute by controlling a 6th character, the form that character takes will be an AI operating the ships computer or an AI in some robotic platform.

If you want to take an action in secret you can PM it to me and I'll do a post saying that you've sent me something (so everyone else knows you aren't dead).

It might be necessary to have an OOC thread but I'll see how we do without it.

I wasn't sure what it was, it didn't quite make sense. So I just addressed it.

I take back what I said. I will make the time to play if I can be the AI.
I thought it was pretty clear that the 6th character is a community suggestion driven one. Something to keep the waitlisters busy.

I'm opening two more player slots. 

Just to confirm Tomcost and GreatWyrmGold got the last two.

The last slot will be opened in 5 hours or so.

Also, no robot races, no mysterious translucent beings...
the 6th character is going to be an AI no matter what. In theory an all robot crew is fine but it would sort of detract from the 6th character. It's meant to stand out from the rest because it's a robot and its community driven nature reflects that. There will be robots hanging around but just for that reason I didn't put them on the chooseable character roster.

Now that I think about it though there will be a weird question if the community character dies. Do you get to pick a new character from any race or do I limit them to another AI.

I'll have to think about the AI/robot-race situation some more.

Translucency didn't cross my mind. Having transparent layers ends up looking weird if I try anything to complex but translucent skin might be okay, it does mean I have to draw organs though so that might not end well. It's also really annoying to have them turn around, doubly so if they have anything resembling a skeletal structure.

We're not planning to be original, are we?
It's hard to make a totally new body type that looks right to me. I can draw something unconventional and stick some weird method of locomotion on it but at this level of detail you have no idea what is going on. Where is it's face? Are those antenna or arms?

Most of the 'Original' stuff I think is just going to show up later with the racial dynamics and whatnot.

I make them gender-less and have us suffer hell on earth... inconsistent pronouns.

I think I'm getting close to being able to start this. I think I've done the hardest part, which is of course drawing the playable alien species.

This is just the working picture I've been doing them all in, that is why there are more then one of some of the aliens (figuring how to make them face the other direction and such).

I think I'm going to make some backstory then do the opening post once I figure how how detailed I want the stats of each character (I'm considering having stats and dice rolls and things). Once I have all the players I'll get them the option to decide how, where and why they are going on a space quest. If they don't have any ideas I'll come up with some reason why they are all meeting up in a space-tavern that won't ruin any RP.

It's always sort of bugged me that because of multiple timezone shenanigans people can miss their opportunity to get in. I had a thought and I'm going to open two of the player slots now and the other three once the thread is made.

You heard right,I'm opening two of the player slots.First come first served. I don't need any character details or anything you can just claim a spot.

On that note I'm hoping for a reasonable rate of character fatalities so that there will be good turn around with the wait-listers. If you get attacked by space pirates and only one crew member survives don't be surprised.

I like the idea of a community-controlled AI. Gives waitlisters something to do, encourages them to keep up.

Yeah that was the idea. It also keeps them available to give suggestions for player characters if the player doesn't give one.

Can we reserve a character yet? This seems promising.

I considered it but as soon as I do I know every slot will be filled. Of course that'll probably happen as soon as I open the slots no matter when I do it.

I've got a pretty good handle on the adventure right now. I'm going to go with the space-inn purely because its flexible and I've decided I'm going to have actual players so they can talk about what they plan to do with their million spacebux and not be as limited.

I'm going to have 6 characters (each with a player) at any time. I am considering having one of the characters be done through community suggestion, I think the community character would probably be an AI of some kind (the thought being it could integrate with ship systems and essentially become the ship). If a character dies then a slot opens for a new player to join (when the plot allows).

I'm hoping it'll be pretty RPy so you won't get told any details about anything unless you ask probably. You'll have to poke around the stations to find the services you need.

Right now I'm just getting assets ready. I honestly have no idea how long this will take since coming up with aliens that work well with my art is a bitch. I'll start it before the weekend unless something comes up.

Setting is still up in the air the moment so if you guys want a certain tone or whatnot let me know. Post apocalyptic has come up a few times but it's a bit weird to make work in a setting where people are operating and maintaining spaceships.

I got an idea for a scifi setting. You are the last band of survivors from a big war which destroyed your home star system (your species colonized around 3 planets). You fled with a newly finished and advanced spaceship, able to leave your star system and (with a cryo system) onboard sleep for an unknown time (100-200 years?).
But now wake up due to an automatic emergency function (energy is running out?).
Checking the area around your ship, you realize that it landed on a mountain on some unknown planet.
And the rest would be up to you, Lincoln :P

It's weird because essentially a lot of these ideas are just start scenarios. In theory you could go from stranded on an alien world to interstellar traders/pirates/explorers as long as you can get off the rock. I'm beginning to think that maybe I'll get the players to make their characters then have them decide on something (they are the ones that will be playing after all).
