Turn 49.1:
The scouting party splits up. The Goblin with the Fellaxe heads back along the road and plans to hide in the woods until nightfall. The rest of the party intends to pretend to be travelers. Working the field for food and accommodation.

Scouting party 1:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The party approaches one of the groups working the field.

The group is made up entirely of humans. Three of them are working the field while the other two stand idle around the Stoneface. One of them is armoured in thick green leather and is wielding a pole arm (the goblins assume she is a guard).

Guard Goblin takes charge of the situation, having participated in undercover operations before. The Monk that appears to be the leader (he's got the fanciest robeafter all) greets the goblins with a friendly 'Ho there". The human guard is tense.

Scouting party 2:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They approach and Guard Goblin explains that they are travelers heading north and how they would like food and accommodation for the night. They lack coin but would be glad to work the fields. The Monk agrees that they can stay for the night if they work the fields.

Scouting party 3:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Goblins lay down their arms and armour by the Stoneface and begin to help work the fields. Once they aren't armed the Guard becomes relaxed.

The Monk engages Guard Goblin in conversation, asking where the Goblins are traveling to.

Hunters:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The young Ridge-backs begin eating the dead Deerple and the Ridge-back advances on the hunters slowly growling aggressively.

EDIT: Guard goblin needs a name badly

Informative post.

I'm getting pretty busy so I might not update for the next week or so. I might if I have time and I feel like it but don't hold your breath.

228
I've put some expositiony stuff into the information post.

I'm not really sensing that any plan has more support then any other so if you guys could figure that out that'd be good. I don't really want to do an update unless I know I can pick a plan that a strong majority of you supports.

229
I've been thinking about this for a bit so I figured i'd ask. How would you guys feel about pausing things in the village and having something like Turn 49.1 where it's just the scout party. Have a bit of a mini-adventure?

I'd probably keep stuff with the hunters going too since I've never been happy with the way the timescale messes up hunting (I'd rather it happened off-screen in 3-6 turns but that'd mess with your exploration of the local area).

EDIT: I'll see if i can figure out some exposition for you guys. For now i'll just let you know that this is a different life cult with a different god.

230
Because it took 20 days of updates for them to make it to the temple. I didn't want you guys to wait 20 days and then say "I wish we had of brought the axe".

Gargle tends to his assistant by telling him to vomit into the pit. He assures his assistant that vomit is aloud since it hasn't been 'used' yet.

You take the time to inspect your hats. They appear to be fine but have eaten a lot of the grass in their small enclosure. You grab a hand full of grass from outside and put it in for them to eat.

The Woodworkers move onto another tree but discover it has fruit in it. They decide to chop down the one next to it instead.

SouthWest(pond):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Goblin makes sure the deerple doesn't get away and then sinks the spear deeper to finish the job.

The ridge-back is watching Jaymi and the other Human and growling at them in warning.

The scout party has arrived:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Scouting party has arrived at the life temple.large amounts of land around the temple have been cleared to make way for farmland, much of it recently harvested. What appear to be priests are working the fields. Catching the final hours of sunlight.

There is a ring structure that encompasses the tree. The roof is made of large sheets of cloth and the rest of the structure appears to be made from the wood of ash-trees like the ones the party came across on the way here. It appears that there are either ramps or staircases that lead to the structure on the other side of the trunk.

You consider how you will light the mines. Since the tunnels aren't to deep at the moment it's possible you can get away with torches or candles if you can make them. You tell Gargle to keep the fat and sinew from the next beast he butchers, he protests on the grounds that sinew is fiddly and fat is delicious but you make it clear that the village needs them. You also consider the possibility of using a large panel of grey-metal to reflect light into the mines. Grey-metal isn't very reflective compared to other metals so it won't be as good as other metals but you think it would let you mine just a tad deeper. Deep enough to breach the cavern if you are lucky.

It looks like it will take about 3 more turns to finish the fellhawk statue.

You turn a grey-metal ingot into three spearheads. Spearheads are a bit trickier to fit onto a handle so the Carpenter has to do it.

Tagracka cancels task: Gathering fruit
Interrupted by: To much vomit

SouthWest(pond):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Goblin approaches the deerple he speared. It is trying to struggle but it is clear that the spear hit a lung and the deerple is drowning in it's own blood.

Jaymi stops following the deerple he speared because the ridge-back decided it wanted that deerple as well. After knocking the deerple down and breaking it's neck the ridge-back lets out an almost casual sounding roar. It then makes low growls at Jaymi.

Sorry, I meant to talk about lighting in the last update but it totally slipped my mind. Which is insane since there is about 5 pages dedicated to it.

Also about the drake thing. I think none of them are remotely drake-like since I know what animals I was thinking of when I drew them. To help settle this here they are:

Ridgeback: Tuskless boar/bear
Tusker/bogbull/whatever: wolf/boar
Stoneface: Cow/bear/bus/banthacow (if you remember what that is you deserve a high-five)

Nothing you've seen has scales, it's all fur so far.

Don't try and take that as an indicator of their intelligence or anything. That's just where my inspiration for physical appearance came from/what I think they look like.

I'm feeling a bit to tired to do an update but i'll get on it tomorrow.

234
I dislike calling everything drakes...

I'll admit I have no idea why everything has drake in it. I don't think Ridge-backs are remotely birdlike.

You give the Rapn one pelt and 4 wood in exchange for the two bags of springnuts.(+5xp)

You ask the Rapn if the nuts could grow here as you make the exchange. He tells you that those nuts would never grow as the green parts have been removed. Apparently the nuts originally have two parts and both of them are needed for a plant to grow. Since the green bits aren't tasty and have no use to the northerners they get removed. At least that is how the Rapn thinks it works. He's no farmer.

If you did have some full springnuts he's not sure if they'd grow since it isn't near the southern coast. These nuts came from Greenshallow. (information post has been updated)

You have him take a look inside the bag of seeds some of the villagers brought with them. Out of the five varieties he recognizes two. You have about 10 units of full springnuts (30 actual nuts) and 5 units (10 actual seeds) of something he thinks are turbish seeds. Turbishes taste foul but you can squeeze them for oil.  That leaves you with another 40 units of unidentified seeds.

You ask him why the idol is worth so much. He tells you it is of the finest craftsmanship money can buy. It doesn't look very impressive to you.

The Rapn asks if your business is done.

Monty goes over to the Mason and they discuss plans to make a statue of Fellhawk's astral form, which is of course a hawk (only deader). They set aside 5 stone for the task.

Tagracka has a bit of a headache now.

The Carpenter takes 3 wood and begins to make a sign.

SouthWest(pond):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The ridge-back to the south shows unexpected speed and tackles one of the fleeing deerple. Sinking it's teeth into the animals shoulder. Some of the deeples have stopped to avoid going near the Ridge-back but the one Jaymi speared charges forward regardless.

The goblin takes his spear from the ground and takes advantage of the fact that some of the deerples collided and manages to spear one of them in the midsection as it is trying to get up.

Totally forgot to say. His clothes are worth 5 yollars.

237
Are the springnuts a food source? 30 nuts doesn't seem like it would sustain someone for any length of time, unless they're huge. Are they more of a snack for the wealthy rather than a staple food?
It's 30 units of nuts which is 6 meals. They are a bit of a middle ground in terms of status symbol but they are worth more on the northern side of the mountain because they only grow in the south.

You talk with the Rapn trader. Apparently they are on a return trip from the north with some bitter Mungo ale. They weren't able to sell their entire load of delicious springnuts to the northerners. They ran into your scouting party on the road and learned of your village. They decided to make a stop to see if they could do some business on the way back south. The Rapn suggests you put a sign up so people know you are here.

The Rapn shows you a number of the items they are carrying but it is obvious he mostly wants to sell the leftover nuts to you. Your superior intelligence stat gives you an advantage in the trading.

The Mason accepts his miserable fate. Doomed to create blocks for the rest of his life.
New settler want added.

Tagracka and the Human carry the ladder over to the fruit tree so that they can gather the fruit.

Gargle helps Vulgaras in collecting red berries after he puts the filth and some of the blue berries from around the village into the pit.

The Carpenter looks over the communal hut and evaluates how easy it would be to add onto the structure. She thinks that adding onto the sides seems easy but wouldn't be as efficient as building another similar building. She thinks that a second story could be added but it would require the roof to be remade again and the supports would probably need to be improved.

We should also greet the traders and ask the name of their fine beast.
If you guys want to do this I'll do the naming instead of you.

Also I put the animal in the information post. It might interest you to see a front view.

Probably update tonight (about 4 hours from now or so).

You declare yourself OreBaron Burnsword(your last name in case you forgot). You can now feel the location of ore and caverns. Quite a fairways beneath you is a huge network of caverns and tunnels. You already knew that though because everyone knows about the deep. What is interesting is that the caverns extend up to about your level further into the mountain. It looks like your mine would have hit the closest cavern if you could have continued digging it. the cavern has tunnels that lead deeper into the mountain but you can't make out where they lead.

Your mine is grazing the edge of a large ore deposit. The main bulk of the deposit is to the right of the mine so you have the miner start their new tunnel there. It will take a few turns to dig deep enough to access it. That large deposit seems to be the only nearby one but there are a few more deposits a few turns walk to the north. You are sure there are more deposits deeper into the mountain but you can't make them out from here.

Tagracka eats one of the green berries. If he isn't dead in a day you'll know they are edible.

The carpenter finishes the ladder and you make another shovel.

The Yolc begins clearing the bushes so he can work the field.

Some Rapn are approaching along the road. You think they are traders judging by the lead Rapn being dressed in trader garb. They are transporting their wares(and themselves) on the back of a large animal. It has a large egg shaped plate growing out of it's head.

SouthWest(pond):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The hunters decide that Jaymi will run up with his spear once the goblin has thrown his at the sleeping deerple.

The goblin misses and the herd begins to scatter. Jaymi thinks he can still get one if he's lucky.
