For a stock example, your vial of emergency-only vampire blood.
Wouldn't want to drink that until you find yourself stunned at the bottom of the ocean or surrounded by zombies.

So glad I'm not the only one that does this. I also keep my necromancer slab and were-elephant blood on hand.

He's got you there.  [ETHICS:SLAVERY:x] exists, but [ETHICS:HUMAN_RIGHTS_VIOLATIONS:x] does not technically exist.

Slavery is just one ethic, here's all the ethics, ethics that are relevant to 'Human Rights Violations' are bolded.

Quote
   [ETHIC:KILL_ENTITY_MEMBER:PUNISH_CAPITAL]
   [ETHIC:KILL_NEUTRAL:ONLY_IF_SANCTIONED]
   [ETHIC:KILL_ENEMY:ACCEPTABLE]
   [ETHIC:KILL_ANIMAL:ACCEPTABLE]
   [ETHIC:KILL_PLANT:ACCEPTABLE]
   [ETHIC:TORTURE_AS_EXAMPLE:UNTHINKABLE]
   [ETHIC:TORTURE_FOR_INFORMATION:UNTHINKABLE]
   [ETHIC:TORTURE_FOR_FUN:UNTHINKABLE]
   [ETHIC:TORTURE_ANIMALS:UNTHINKABLE]

   [ETHIC:TREASON:PUNISH_CAPITAL]
   [ETHIC:OATH_BREAKING:PUNISH_CAPITAL]
   [ETHIC:LYING:PERSONAL_MATTER]
   [ETHIC:VANDALISM:PUNISH_SERIOUS]
   [ETHIC:TRESPASSING:PUNISH_SERIOUS]
   [ETHIC:THEFT:PUNISH_SERIOUS]
   [ETHIC:ASSAULT:PUNISH_SERIOUS]
   [ETHIC:SLAVERY:PUNISH_CAPITAL]
   [ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_OTHER:UNTHINKABLE]
   [ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_KILL:UNTHINKABLE]
   [ETHIC:MAKE_TROPHY_SAME_RACE:APPALLING]
   [ETHIC:MAKE_TROPHY_SAPIENT:SHUN]

   [ETHIC:MAKE_TROPHY_ANIMAL:ACCEPTABLE]

So while there is no 'rights violations' there's plenty of ethics to cover it.

The three links that I looked at only talk about slavery, not propaganda. And I'm not even going to address your comment on dwarven ethics. Reread the original post.

How can you not comment on dwarven ethics? Your dwarves come from areas that punished slavery, most have lived their entire lives there. Trying to change their mind on a subject would be like coming to America/Any European Country and saying how we should go back to slavery again. No amount of propaganda can change that and you'd get punished for it.

Anyways, this road is well traveled. See the links above.

It's a temporary fix but I like the direction it's going in. Hopefully Toady can slap on a tag that allows us to mod it.

Just so that I can garnish support, here's the current suggestion topic on modding stone drops. [LINK] If you like having 100% stone drop or have it based on skill you should still get behind this so that Toady knows there's interest.

tl;dr

Dwarf ethics prohibit slaver.
   [ETHIC:SLAVERY:PUNISH_CAPITAL]

That said, I like the general idea of propaganda. However I can't think of a Fun way to implement it. The only real use it would have is either staving off bad thoughts from military training, or have it do some magical Command and Conquer type thing where it magically makes them work faster/harder/better for a few minutes. None of which promote Fun. Unless you have some crazed leader start a rebellion and such. But if we go down that road expect another howitzer of links.

DF Modding / Re: Butcherable bodies: what makes one?

Would a starved, hyper-thin animal qualify as not being large enough? Is there a known size threshold?

Animals all have different body sizes, to my knowledge, hunger doesn't affect size.

Smaller creatures such as rabbits, buzzards, kittens, either won't get butchered, or will only leave a skull behind once butchered.
Here's some science done by Urist Da Vinci a while ago.

Pets or stray animals will not be butchered if they are killed by any other means than slaughtering them in the butchers shop.

(Also the animal has to be big enough, but that is not the issue in this case, just for future reference)

So you are saying that shirt, pants, socks under armor are not enough ? I currently have shirt, pants and shoes with altered layersize in my mod, seems to be working just fine.

That'll probably work as well, I used leather armor because it doesn't rot away and provides more protection. Po-tato Pohtato, Ur-ist U-rist.

1. Could you contain threads to a single topic? or you can post simple questions to the 34.xx Modding Questions Thread. This is to reduce clutter. But also help you out more because people would be able to keep track of what was done and not done.

LINK

2. I have been following your story rather diligently, the dwarf is not looking for bones. He's looking for something else that he doesn't have. 'Q' the workshop and post what he wants. Then 't' the workshop and tell us what he has.

Make sure you have the items he wants in surplus. If he's asking for metal bars (or rock bars) 'v' -> 'z' him and find his favorite metal. Make sure you have it.

Two things

   [PRODUCT:100:1:WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_SPEAR:VOID:A:NONE]

Should be

   [PRODUCT:100:1:WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_SPEAR:INORGANIC:VOID]

(If that doesn't work try)

   [PRODUCT:100:1:WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_SPEAR:METAL:VOID]

And remove [FORCE_EDGE] from the reaction

Is it possible to aim with ranged at the moment? If not, this would be nice feature e.g. same kind of advanced aiming as in melee.

Toady has talked a little bit about it in one DF talk or another, but he said he'd like to calculate in things like wind-speed and direction so that you aren't a spot-on robin hood every time IIRC.

dwarves who are wearing armor will consider themselves 'naked'

Really? Have you tried using metal leggins? That works for me.

Double Really? Perhaps you aren't waiting long enough, I believe the clothes need to fully rot off and a few months need to pass, this can take multiple ingame years.

If you're right, it's probably that leggings have the [LEATHER] tag. So the game is treating it as metal clothing/armor hybrid thing.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Conquering the raging river

Yep. Either pump out a couple of rows of water (this is what we call the Red Sea effect) or pump some magma onto the river, and carefully dig out the obsdian.
magma sounds like the best kind of idea

...And this is what I like to call the !!Red Sea!! effect.

DF Modding / Fixing the Clothing / Armor Bug
« on: May 04, 2012, 11:39:48 pm »
I believe I fixed the clothing armor bug, I may need additional confirmation, but everything's fine on this end.

The Bug : Right now, dwarves who are wearing armor will consider themselves 'naked' because they aren't wearing clothes, resulting in Legendary Axedwarf Fun!

Solution : Make leather armor for pants and boots, then give the leather armor UNDER and mess with the layer permits until you can fit the metal armor over the leather armor.

Conclusion : So far this has appeared to work for me, leather armor seems to be considered as 'clothes' because it's made of leather. The armor fits over the leather, thus the dwarf is still covered by armor. Coupled with the great bonus that leather armor does not rot.
