DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Problem with surgery?
« on: November 29, 2010, 05:53:34 pm »
To add, one is a dwarven child, the other is a legendary wood cutter (I know, right?). The child has right lower arm, right upper leg, left lower arm, left upper leg, left lower leg, right hand and left foot all broken from the 5(?) z-level fall. He is diagnosed as needing surgery, suture, setting and immobilization. He has severe blood loss, cannot stand, and grasp is impaired, and has an infection.

The woodcutter is in basically the same situation, needing surgery, suture, setting and immbilization, heavy blood loss, etc. His lower spine is also broken though along with a smashed open toe.

Sorry to be the bearer of worse news but your woodcutter is now useless. He'll never stand again.

Euthanasia by magma would be my prognosis.

Just cause I'm such a nice guy, here. Best shot I could get of it (you've got it underground and all weirdly placed)

And your entire embark on the surface, for giggles.

Sadly, Stonesense isn't 31.18 compatible yet, so here's a (crappy) Overseer shot of the outside.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I tried getting a shot of the inside... but it's a white-n-gray mess, lots of floor and stairs.

Props, by the way, for the nicely made dome.

Try the scroll wheel on your mouse. Down zooms in.

Water takes time to flow. My ocean was draining for a year with no sign of it actually emptying so now I drop back to the age-old answer.

magma.

Which siege is this for you? I got 51 goblins, all mounted on Voracious Cave Crawlers, a pair being Elite Bowmen (who took out half of my military through the fortifications) on my second siege.

It probably didn't look as awesome as I'm imagining, it, but fuck it. That's awesome.

Close him in somehow; if need be relocate your workshops. If a dwarven caravan comes before he snaps, they may have some silk for you to give him.

@Urist Imiknorris: Oddly enough, that's exactly what I'm doing.

As for visualizers, Overseer doesn't render water, and I don't think Stonesense is up to date yet.

Awesome, thanks. Putting together the draining method now.

EDIT: Holy crap, a draining ocean is a scary sight.

Pics or it didn't happen.

Pics wouldn't do it justice.

But seriously, is this a bug?

We call that a feature.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Embark: where the wagon parks
« on: November 28, 2010, 05:00:11 pm »
They prefer the center of the map so much that occasionally, you'll get them parking on a 1x1 hill that can't handle a wagon.  All of your items will be stacked on this 1x1 square with no wagon (sucks if you're relying on the wagon's wood).

I hate when this happens. All my DIY builds have one log in them as a result.

I think that water could be drained through underground fortifications carved into edge of map. Don't quote me on this though.

Ah, here's the thing: I want to area refilled afterward, because the design requires it. It sources water directly from the ocean to power it, and dumps it back when a full shutdown is necessary.

Well, not all of it.

I'm playing with a new megaproject, a huge glass powerplant sitting atop an ocean (using the ocean water to produce power) and I plan on building some necessary plumbing beneath the plant, just under the ocean's surface. What would be a good method of draining out the necessary section for an extended time? My two ideas are piping lava from the nearby volcano to make an obsidian levee of sorts, and pump out the water, or just make a ton of pumps to try and hold water away while my masons do what the need to do.
